I am Janna, ML for Saskatoon. I live near Taylor & Clarence, in the East. I mostly walk everywhere during the day Monday-Friday, but drive places evenings and weekends. I work part-time from my house doing freelance editing. I have two guinea pigs, a cat, and a fiance. ;)
This year, I am writing the third book in a YA series about kids with disabilities who attend an alternative school. I've won NaNo twice before, in 2006 and 2008; this is going to be my third win, I know it! :)
I lived in Calgary until the end of March of this year, and have been ML there since 2005. I love NaNo and I love MLing, and I expect I will soon love you guys as much as I loved my Wrimotaurs in Calgary!
Please tell us all who you are, what part of the city you live in, how you get around, and what you're going to write this year. How many times you've participated in NaNo and how many times you've won would be awesome. Pets are also cool. Same with your job (if you have one) and what hours you work (obviously mine are flexible). All of this information will help us get to know each other and it will help me choose dates for parties and write-ins.

Hello, I'm Melissa and I live in Briarwood (East Side). I walk, take the bus or the car depending on the weather or how far the destination is. I work Monday-Friday, 8-5 on the UofS Campus. Those hours aren't really felxible, but I do have a bunch of days off that I still have to book in the next few weeks. I'm re-writing my NaNo novel from last year, which probably best fits in the category of literary fiction. I've been doing NaNoWriMo for several years now, but wasn't able to win until last year when I squeaked by just before midnight on December 1st. :)

Welcome to Saskatoon, Janna.
Hi, I'm James. I participated in -- and won -- Nanowrimo and Script Frenzy every year since joining in 2002. I live on the west side and get around by car in winter and by bicycle (sometimes) in summer. When not participating in global contests to write large quanitities of words in short periods of time, I work as a system analyst for the health region.
My novel this year is a mid-crisis murder mystery mashup of Miley Cyrus / The Spice Girls meets The Shock Doctrine. Check out the synopsis on my Novel Info page.

Hey everybody! I'm William! I live in the Nutana Park area (east side) close to Jarvis Dr. Since I'm sixteen and have just bought a car, I tend to drive too much...but i do walk sometimes. This year I'm writing a science-fiction sorta suspense, almost mystery novel haha i don't have a clear plot, but right now what I have is about sixteen-nineteen or so people wake up on a space ship after some sort of disaster....and they have lost all of their memories. Notihng definite yet...just that they need to figure out what's going on, why they are on the ship, and WHO they are...prob sounds kind of lame...but I'm working on it! haha so, after that, basically, I'm not prepared yet....haha
Good luck to everyone! It's good to be getting back in nano-setting! I constantly write...but this is...different, yeah! Haha and I talk too much! Good to see you all! Welcome to Saskatoon Janna!

H'llo again everyone... I'm returning for a fifth year, hoping to get up to 60% success rate from my current 50%.
I'm Megan, an unemployed recent engineering graduate currently living on the west side with my dad, my sister, and her cat. However, I'm holding out to find some kind of job by... the end of this month? Maybe? And then I'll hopefully be relocating to some other part of the city. I'm quite happy to walk places within a one or two mile radius of my house, but otherwise I drive (now that I'm U-Pass-less).
I have no idea what I'll be writing this year since I don't decide until I start or at best a few days before I start, but usually--always--it ends up being something science fictiony.
Good luck everybody!

Hi, there.
I am Raicara also known in the RW as Gale.
I joined NaNo in 2003 and didn't make it that year. I have won each year after. I was ML for Saskatoon for a couple of years as well.
I live on the West Side, mostly drive. My new job is shift work. I have not got my schedule for November yet. So I can't make any plans for attending until I know when an event is and what my schedule is. I do look forward to meeting up with you all a few times before this is over.
I sort of have a story idea, but nothing really concrete yet. I am leaning toward a Merlin/Arthur type story. Only with on of the other Knights of the round table. Sill perking.
Talk to you all latter.

Hi! My name is Jessica and I actually live in Martensville so I have to drive if I want to get into the city. I'm currently the A/R Bookkeeper Account at Dutch Growers so I'm very close to Mackenzie Coles, if that is the coffee shop this year :) My hours are day shifts, I work no earlier than 8:30 and no later than 6:00 and work Mon-Fri.
I'm hoping to do a life novel with some plot twists and lots of humor. I haven't finished the character building but I'm very exciting! This is my third year doing Nanowrimo, the first year I won but sadly last year I only finished half because of College.
As for Pets, we have gone down to around 15-20 quarter horses now and have 2 cats. So training horses is usually what I'm doing on Saturday and Sunday mornings though once snow hits, it won't be as often. My mom and I, our training our own horses right now, so I'm riding a two-year-old and slowly training my yearling. While my mom is training a half blind three-year-old and a two-year-old.
I'm very interested in both parties and write-ins. Last year I wasn't able to go at all, so I really want to get involved this year!

This is my sixth year NaNoing, and I live in College Park. I walk to work and the grocery store, but otherwise bus. Other years I have blamed my nightshift job for not making meetups. I was hoping that was cured this year, but as of last month I'm :sigh back on nightshift.

Hi everyone! I'm Aaron and I live in Sutherland near Central. I'm originally from California (near San Francisco) where I was a computer programmer working in healthcare. This is my second year living in Canada with my fiancee and her two boys. Since I'm still wending my way through the tortuous process of immigration and can't work or go to school I have quite a bit of free time on my hands. I like to walk (Mackenzie Coles is close by) but I'm also okay with driving. My hours are pretty open.
I joined Nano at the urging of a friend in 2007 but only got about 4k done. Last year was my first win, although the majority of it was done right at the end and looking back at the book makes me feel a bit like Dr. Frankenstein (yes, it's alive but-- yuck!). I lean toward science fiction but I'm debating whether I want to try general fiction-- maybe a story about some guy who was crazy enough to leave a land of beaches and palm trees for one of ice and snow?
As for pets we have two cats who think they're dogs in that they come when you call them and constantly whine for attention. The youngest will probably be warming my lap all throughout November. If I don't make my word count I'll blame him!

Hi, I'm Eve and want to say that I'm very pleased Saskatoon finally has it's own Region this year - it won't all be about Regina - and welcome to everyone. Jana, I want to welcome you as ML. I did Nanowrimo in Calgary back when you were ML (I think it was 2006). While I didn't make any of the meet-ups they all sounded very fun so I am sure you will do a great job in Saskatoon. Generally speaking I don't attend meet-ups because - honestly - I am just too shy/scared/pansy to do so. I do love the chat room and word wars, I find that to be a great medium to get me writing without being too distracting.
As I am one of those people that suffer from Too-Many-Ideas-Syndrome, I will likey continue debating what I will write throughout the month of October. Currently, I have five front-runners that vary from juvinille fiction to science fiction to literary fiction. I look forward to November first when I will finally decide which idea will become my bane for this years Nano!

2nd year here and i'm as stoked and scared as last year at this time! i've never been out to a mtg but maybe this year i'll join in sometime. looking back, i realize the times that it would have been beneficial to mow thru a big stack of words with others on the same quest. no writer's block, but just busy or lazy with it, then you get behind a couple days and you think holy crap how can i catch up...!
i'll come out when i can and any location is aok.
protagonist swirling, ideas forming, no plot (but i know that's no problem!)

Feel free to drop by and say "hey" :P So I can probably attend most meet-ups, but I am a University student so studies come first...at leat until my mid-terms and papers are all done with =D

Hey everyone! My name's Mary and I have lived in Saskatoon all my life; however, this year I moved to Regina *ducks flying objects* to attend university as a first year film major. My home is on the cusp of Forest Grove and Erindale, though I currently reside in residence at the U of R. Yay for dorm life? I'm actually quite enjoying the experience.
This is my second year doing NaNo, my first being in 2008, and I am just as terrified as I was last year. That is, by the way, very, very terrified. Last year, I failed quite spectacularly but enjoyed myself none the less and am determined to win this year! I'll definitely do it! Really, I will! For sure! Maybe...
My book this year is a romance, which should shock anyone who has met me (including myself) as I usually write (and read) sci-fi or fantasy (mostly the latter). It takes place in a fantasy world, so that's less shocking. Anyways, I have always enjoyed writing little romances between characters as subplots in my other stories, so I thought I may as well take a stab at making it the main focus and explore a genre that I am largely unfamiliar with. We'll see how it goes; I'm fairly optimistic and quite excited. And terrified. It is mostly planned out at this point, so I can't wait 'til November!! There is lots of adventure and such outside of the romance, so it won't (hopefully) be very angsty. That said, it probably won't be very happy either. But there will be humour as well! And bromance. Because I love bromance far too much (that's not possible!).

Hello all,
I'm John, live in Tait Court and work downtown as a System Administrator. I bike until the snow flies, then bus and drive since parking will tax you penniless :)
I joined Nano about... 5 years ago now I guess and so far I'm batting at .500 for various reasons (school one year, lack of inspiration the other haha) I've had a friend bugging me for quite along time to finish my first year's nano project so I'm going to do that. The plot is kinda like a wet noodle in it's current state, so hopefully be hammering it into something that I'm proud of. I mostly write fantasy / sci-fi. You'll likely see me mostly in those forums :)
Good luck to all! and though in the past I haven't been a very social writer, this year I might get myself out to an event. They sound fun!
John.

Hi everyone! I'm not from Saskatoon, but since it's way closer to me than Regina, I joined. Also, I went to high school in Saskatoon (GO FALCONS! Marion Graham!) Of course, high school is waaaaaaaaay behind me now. lol Still, it's my second home if I were ever to leave my current home.
I live on my reserve in west-central Saskatchewan, about an hour from North Battleford and Lloydminster. It's a 2.5 hour drive into Saskatoon, but nearly 6 hours to Regina, so you can see why I'm excited Saskatoon has its own forum this year! Woo!
Next year would be cool if we had rural forums too. Something to think about. :)
Anyhoot, haven't decided on what I'm writing about this year. I have about 4 plots/stories sitting in my story notebook that I've been meaning to write. 2 of them are scifi, and since I've never written scifi for nano, I think I might take a crack at that this time around. :) I'm not looking to win this year, as I've never made it past 5k. *shame* I'd just like to crack 10k at least once! lol
Here's to a great year of writing!

Hi everyone! It's nice to 'meet' you all.
I've lived in S'toon my whole life and have been doing NaNo since 2005. I won every year but last year, and that was due to my black cloud mood last year
I live in the west end, Dundonald area and usually bus everywhere. I just graduated from the UofS in May and am currently working downtown as a receptionist for a branch of the Ministry of Justice (8-5, Monday-Friday). It's a fairly slow job, so I often bring a notebook along to write in during the down times. I live with my 'rents and my darling puppy Rosalind. Oh and I get every other Friday off, so in November that translates to the 13th and the 27th.
I've never gone to any write-ins or meetups. I always mean to and I've never gotten around to it. So I can't commit to it at this moment, but I really like the idea of write-ins.
I primarily write fantasy, but this year my story has a sci-fi twist with a touch of romance. I'm really looking forward to it. It's a lot more introspective than my usual brand, but I'm looking forward to exploring the story and characters.

Hi guys!
I'm Alan. This year I'm going to write a novel called "RED PROGRAM." It's basically a thriller which takes place "Just a few months later than present day." The main character is a historian who tries desperately to warn the people around him about some big imminent dangers ... and his difficulties stem primarily with miscommunications that occur as a result of layers upon layers of "predictive programming" that have been ingrained in people through many aspects of culture. The novel will dramatize ideas from some of my favorite authors of non-fiction ... this story will be full of layers upon layers of plotty goodness ...
I wrote during NaNoWriMo last year, but I didn't join the site. I followed the discussion boards, but I didn't go to any events. The story I wrote during NaNoWriMo last year was about a guy named Steve Sylvan who went on an adventure ... the novel fell apart very quickly, and my low word count was embarrassing in contrast to the very impressive updates that I was reading on the forums by people who were actually making progress in their novels, and I was very impressed by some NaNoWriMo-spawned stories that I read elsewhere on the internet, one in particular which I hope the author finishes someday because it's really really really really really really good. But this year, I'm actually joining. I'm actually going to the social events. I have passion about the story called "Red Program", and I've already got a ton of ideas for it. I want to meet ALL of you, and get tips about novel writing. I've done a lot of writing in the past, but mostly in stageplay and teleplay formats. I'm actually selling some stageplay and teleplay books at my web-site http://www.bananachan.tk
I'm good with dialogue and story structure within stageplay and teleplay formats, but I typically run into a lot of problems when I try to write in novel format. I do have some experience with novel format, but that experience is long and complicated to explain ... but long story short, writing in novel format will be a big challenge for me, so I'll need some help from you guys if I'm to do justice to my story called "Red Program".
P.S. Become my friend on facebook! I'm the Alan Holman from Saskatoon whose user icon is a silhouette!

It's a decent city, but its busier here. I prefer the small town feel of Regina which most people (including those from Regina,) seem to hate.
This is my first Nano. I've wanted to do it before but never have. Feel free to keep me accountable.

Hello everyone!
----------My name is Samantha, this is my first year writing for NaNoWriMo. I didn't actually find out about it until last year even, and by then it was already too late to join in. I've been excited since last November and can't wait to start.
I'm originally from Kelliher (don't worry, no body's heard of it) but I've been in Saskatoon the last three years for school. I'm currentely going to university for a degree in Geology, so unfortunately that puts quite the damper on my free time with labs. But I'll give it my best.
I live in Sutherland, right off Central, and I normally take the bus/walk, but I can drive if the need arives.
I look forward to the meetings. I'm hoping this may bring my creativitiy back that science seems to sap so very well.
My story is sort of a modern-ish day murder mystery. Done with a bit of a film noir feel, and psychology jargon thrown in, here's hoping it will pull me through!
Can't wait to start and meet everyone.

Hello everyone. I'm Heather.
I live in the south-east part of the city and am in the final weeks of my maternity leave (it ends the final days of NaNoWriMo). Depending on where I need to be, and who will be tagging along with me I drive, walk, cycle or take the bus to get around the city.
This is my first year doing NaNoWriMo and I fear that I may have lost my mind in signing on for this. I'm trying to decide between two stories that have been consuming my writing attention for awhile, but have not yet been written. While I use to write a lot of fiction, the past several years have found me mostly writing non-fiction (journalism, academic, work-related blogging and essays).
I'm not sure how much time I would have to join you for a write-in, plus I lack a laptop with a working battery.
Good luck everyone. May the Muses be with you.

I've meant to introduce myself for awhile...anyways. Hi everyone! I'm Erin, and this is my first nano ever. A friend told me about it last year, but I was so busy in November that I didn't have time to think, let alone write a novel. I'm still a high school student (grade 12), which probably makes me one of the younger nanoers from Saskatoon this year. I'm trying to convince a whole bunch of my friends to join me, but we shall have to see how it goes.
I'm from the eastside, and I usually drive, walk or bicycle to get around. I'm not a fan of biking in the winter though, because I've already wrecked more than one pair of perfectly good mittens by sliding out on the ice.
I'm not completely sure what I'm writing about this year, although I think it has to do with a language barrier and three women in an apartment building. More details to come I hope.
It's nice to meet you all, bye for now!

Howdy all!
I'm Ian, aka fall-apart, and I hail from the sprawling prairie metropolis of Prince Albert! Yay! Anyhoo, I've done Nano since 2004, but never won (although I came within a whisker in 2005). I never know what my novel will be about before I start, because as soon as I know how it will end, I stop writing. So I have to surprise myself through to the finish...
As for how I get around, usually I drive my purple PT, but if the wife and kids are coming, too, we have a Veracruz to bus us all around. I teach History, French, Science and CPT at Carlton Comprehensive (biggest high school in the province) and I run the unofficial Nano club there for student authors.
I might make it down to S'toon for a meetup or two, but it's 1½ hrs each way, so I won't be able to make all of them. Looking forward to Nov 1!

Howdy All!
I am Lori and this is my 3rd attempt at Nano. Although, I don't personally count the first one as I found out about it half way through November and spent most of my time learning to use a writing program with a word count, and absorbing all the content on the site. I did not finish either of my prior attempts, but have been able to clear the schedule a bit and am determined to finish this year!
I have two ideas which are worlds apart from each other and no idea at this point, which way I may travel...perhaps another idea will jump out of my head last moment and be my "aha", but until such inspiration strikes, I am toying with the following:
1) A "backwards" murder mystery where (within a well formed group of people who have known each other since high school) instead of having a murder at the beginning and solving it during the course of the novel, the group has to decide who will be killed and also who will need to be the murderer. Whether or not they pull it off is entirely beside the point, the journey to decide will be the adventure. May need some research though so kind of iffy for nano.
2)A fictionalized memoir of sorts, by a girl who delves into the world of partylines and cyber chat rooms. The humour and reflections of the characters she encounters and how it affects her reality. It would also include pet peeves of her and some of her chat friends which would amount to almost a "Chat room etiquette" chapter. I see it with some sadness, a little mystery and a great deal of humourous commentary.
Anyway, if I can't decide, perhaps I will put it to a vote here instead of wavering back and forth for the first 2 weeks, losing precious writing time. I may write a few notes about each and see which characters appear more real to me as I am a character-driven writer---if they are real, I can put them where I want them and let them live it out....makes it so much easier, at least in my head. :)
I live in North Park/City Park area, and would love to do a few write-in/coffee things, but my schedule fluctuates, so will just make the ones I can. I look forward to getting to know you all and spending time with some fellow-crazies...oops, I mean creators. *giggle*
GOOD LUCK ONE AND ALL!

Welcome new ML Janna.
I didn't do Nano last year--- I felt too discouraged by the never got going, non-novel that I fussed around with in 2007.
But then, by coincidence, I saw James and a few others at the wrap dim sum in December last year and felt, awwww, I should have tried again. Besides, 2006, my first Nano year was awesome and I had a blast. Got over 50K, too. Woohoo.
So... here I am again. I often have no car so I miss the meet ups. I like both the the Broadway Roastery and McKenzie Cole for meeting. I'll go visit the right thread to discuss that.
My novel synopsis (such as it is) is posted. Looking forward to meeting everyone, although I won't be at this Friday's meet unless you stay past 9 p.m. I am volunteering out at the Exhibition until then for the SK Quilt Show. If you have time, come and visit the show. Serendipity is a charitable arrangement that you might enjoy buying a quilt from...

I've written less than 10,000 words since completing Nano last year (my worst stretch since the turn of the millennium), so I'm hoping the challenge will fire up my creative drive and get me back into the submission/publication game.

Hey there folks! I'm Bob! (Johnny's obviously a pen name) I've been a writer for about five years, in the sense that Ive been writing short stories/poems/scripts for almost five years. I've never done NaNoWriMo, and I, as a few other people on here seem to be doing as well, am using this as an attempt to get myself back into writing! I have definitely not been doing enough of it, and what better way to start again by madly scrambling to write a book in thirty days!I just found out about this whole thing from a friend a few weeks ago, and have been wishy washy about joining up, but realized I had an idea that would work fairly well, so I'm going for it!
I live on 14th st e, so I'm pretty well walking distance from Broadway, and 8th st.(Those are basically the only places I go other than home and work.) I just moved here in July from the Battlefords, and work at the Husky Travel center! I work full time 3-11 shifts, with the occasional 11pm-7am graveyard shift.
My idea! My novel idea is a sort of sequel/spinoff to a couple other projects I've done. Damnation(my usual series) involved three people escaping from Hell. As a result of there escape, the gates to Hell are opened, allowing lots o' demons to get out. One demon who had previously escaped, battled the protagonist of a movie that never quite got finished. Tyeleus the demon Fought Hector, and was defeated. When the gates opened, Tyleus decided he'd take the opportunity to round up his demon buddies, the Lords of the Demonic Estates, and head on up to earth to take revenge on Hector. That's where this story begins! Once it's done, the Damnation characters are totally gonna meet up with Hector and fight off a massive invasion of demons. It'l hopefully be pretty badass.
That's all I guess. Hopefully I'll be able to come to one of these shindigs and meet some of you folks!

Hi there, I'm Tim. I live in Outlook, but only a short drive from Saskatoon (besides, my family all lives there).
This will be my second year. Last year's attempt didn't go so well as work became hectic and I didn't start writing until February. However, I'm going to try again this year. I work as the production manager of The Outlook weekly newspaper, and easily get around with my trusty Hyundai Accent.
I plan on writing a continued series that I've posted up on my own blog, and this year hoping to begin the second series as the first is now complete. It's a fantasy westerm, as I've taken traditional elves of folklore and dropped them in the middle of the American (and Canadian) Mid West.

Hello, I'm groovekittie. :) I am from rural Saskatchewan. I probably won't be coming into Saskatoon for any of the meets, but since there isn't a rural forum and Saskatoon is the closer of the two cities to me, I thought I'd join this one for the interaction.
I'm a former nano participant, but I've never won. I'll be writing original science fiction for the first time. I've been sitting on this one idea for so long now and I think it's time I finally write it. *sigh* We'll see how it goes. I'm not new to the genre as I've written *plenty* of scifi fanfiction, I've just never written any original scifi before.
Wish me luck!
