A write-in gets your writing out–out into the company of other writers. Even if you’re usually the solitary type, you’d be surprised at how motivating it is to work side by side, pounding out those words together, knowing that you’re not alone on the road to 50k. Here’s the lineup:

Sundays, Nov. 1, 8, 22, 29: 6 pm - 10 pm
The Writers Place, 3607 Pennsylvania, Kansas City, MO

The Writers Place
It's a glorious castle/house building with rooms (yes, plural) to sprawl. Parking on the street but watch the no-parking signs on the sides next to the building, and the fire hydrant. There is a small handcapped-accessible parking area in back. We'll have coffee and tea and a few goodies there, or BYO. not Nov. 15

Wednesdays, Nov. 4, 18: 6 pm - 9 pm [not Nov. 11 or Nov. 25 for holiday closings]
Central Resource Library, 9875 West 87th St., Overland Park, KS

Central Resource Library
Take, oh, 20 paces in through the front door, then turn right or west. The Nancy Pickard Room is behind the purple wall with glassed-in artifact display case. (Alternatively, go to the information desk. Otherwise, you could wander for a long time without finding us.) The library has lots of parking (it's a suburb) and outlets. Beverages with lids are allowed; the library provides water, juice boxes, and snacks/treats.

CHANGE IN LOCATION
Wednesday, Nov. 11: 6 pm - 10 pm
Black Dog Coffeehouse, 12815 W 87th Street Pkwy, Lenexa, KS

Black Dog Coffeehouse

CHANGE IN LOCATION
Sunday, Nov. 15: 6 pm - 10 pm
Westport Coffeehouse, 4010 Pennsylvania, Kansas City, MO

Westport Coffeehouse
Park in lot or on street. It's just 4 blocks south of the Writers Place. They have sandwiches and baked goods, so please don't bring major food; support the business' tolerance of our camping out there by buying there.

All write-in details are posted on our KanMoWriCo Events Calendar

Wednesday, Nov. 25: 6 pm - 10 pm
Roasterie Cafe, 6223 Brookside Blvd., Kansas City, MO

Roasterie Cafe
Park in the lot behind or on the street in front. Support the business’ tolerance of our 4-hour camp by buying food and drink there.

What if the location or time of the write-ins aren’t good for you, or you want more outings?

Start one! You’re perfectly welcome to start a write-in in, say, in the Northland or southern Overland Park. I only ask that you try not to schedule one that coincides with the regular Sunday evening write-in at the Writers Place.

If you come up with a meeting idea, post it here on the forum:
Scheduled? Post it in this thread if it’s a regular write-in--say, every Thursday at the Zona Rosa Latteland or every Saturday at the Daily Dose in southern Overland Park. Include full street address and, if you can, a website URL or Google map. I’ll add it to our Google Calendar
Spur-of-the-Moment? If you suddenly decide to write at your favorite library or coffee shop tomorrow night at 6pm, go ahead and start a new thread, to see if anyone else is interested.

You might want to look for
- Coffee and/or other beverages and food, or at least a place that allows them (many libraries now do)
- Convenient seating for 5-10 people in one general area (though you''ll probably have fewer show up)
- Power outlets for laptops (although it hasn’t stopped us from meeting at bookstores stingy with their electrical power)
-Be sure to check the daily hours for your location.

Any questions? Want suggestions in your area? Just ask!

Darah and I are chatting a bit. I'm a morning person all the way. If I don't get my writing / exercising / prep work for dinner done in the morning, chances are those things won't get done at all. I hit four in the afternoon and I'm drooping. It isn't pretty.

Are there any other morning people out there? Maybe a Saturday morning meet up in some obliging coffee house somewhere? What do you think?

Are you thinking KCK, (since you did the Wyandotte Co. Lib before)?

I am. We have at least one great coffee shop out at the Legends.

But if there's interest and the location is too far for people to get to, I'm willing to go to Johnson County or the far west side of KCMO. (Are there good coffee shops in the Plaza? That would be some awesome people watching there as well.)

I think I remember last year having regular Thursday-evening write-ins at the Roasterie. I'm free on Thursday evenings this November--would anyone else be interested in that?

Loonstruck - It's not really on the Plaza, but Muddy's is a pretty cool coffee shop. They're at Oak and 51st, right next to UMKC campus.

Otherwise, I've decided that I'll be hanging out at the Scooter's at College and Antioch every Friday in November (sorry silverdolphin, I have class Thursday night), so if anyone wants to come hang out, that would be awesome!

ETA: Sorry, everyone! It appears that I forgot to link to a map (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=11106+Antioch+Rd%2C+Overland+Par...) and tell you what time I'll be there (the official times will be 5 to 9, but there's a very good chance that I'll be there much earlier than that, possibly even as early as 12:30.) Thanks, Teri, for catching that!

I work on the Plaza and get off at 7:00am, so the idea of a morning write-in at Muddy's sounds pretty good to me. (And that would probably be the best location, too as Latteland is rather small and Starbucks is always a crowded mess.)
On the other hand, there's always breakfast at Panera -- they have coffee and plenty of room, not sure about computer hook-ups but I have seen people with laptops in there. Thoughts?

Well, since no one else is jumping in, I'm going to second the Panera idea. I'd love to come, but it is a bit of a drive for me, and I figure if I can eat my breakfast there, I can sleep a little while longer before I'd have to leave. Plus I really like their bagels.

(Note: EmmersonBlair jumped in there and made my post confusing :) I was talking about the Saturday morning Plaza Panera idea.)

I will be at the Borders on 119th and Metcalf Saturday mornings in Nov from nine to noon. They have one big table with a power outlet nearby and I will bring a power strip. Don't know if there is enough interest to throw it up on the calendar or call it a write-in, but that is where I will be and company is always appreciated.

Writers in the Northland may also like to visit the Boardwalk Library for several programs and write-ins. Write-ins will take place on a series of Mondays (November 16, 23, 30) from 6-8 pm. The resident librarian (Brian) is a huge Nano fan and participant who will be providing space, comfy chairs, powerstrips, and--most importantly--caffeinated beverages.

Boardwalk is also hosting a program on how to write a convincing villain on October 26 at 7 pm if you want to get a little character planning done ahead of time.

The Boardwalk branch of the Mid-Continent Public Library is located at 8656 N. Ambassador Dr near I-29 and Barry Rd. Call them to sign up or get more info at 741-9011.

Hi all.

I am going to try and make the writers events throughout the month of November at the Writers Place, but since I live North of the river, near Liberty, I was wondering if anyone knew of a good p;lace up here to meet and if anyone would be intersested in having a couple of write ins up here? I know of some possibilties around Liberty, but would be willing to go as far as Zona Rosa if there is a good place.

Anyone up for something at the Daily Dose? It's now called Toad's Pub n' Perk, but it's the same old Dose. I write there all the time anyways, and it's pretty empty around 1 in the afternoon. Tons of space.

Hmm. I like the old name better. I usually get out there once or twice during November. Last year we had a Saturday evening event there.

It doesn't look like they still have the LA Juice smoothies. Alas!

So is there any day of the week you want to set for getting together there? If so, post it here.

At 2pm today, there will be a write-in in Lee's Summit, at Doozen's Coffee.

ditty1013 should be around sometime to give you the Lee's Summit plan for write-ins, so check back if that's what you're looking for.

S.N.,

hey, I didn't know the Dose was still there! I'd driven past it one night and saw the words "Toad" and "Pub" and figured it had been converted to some crass bar. It's good to know they still have space for the laptop-enabled! I get off work at 2 pm, I might pick up a habit of dropping in there once a week. Like Teri asked, is there a particular day that works for folks? Good suggestion, Melissa ~

M/W/F afternoons work for me since I work from home, so I'm pretty flexible if a specific day works for others.

P.S. They do still carry fruit smoothies. =)

Hey, Melissa & other Southwestlanders,

Wanting to explore other venues, I have settled into Frog Pub/Perk for most of the evening. I can report that the apple cider is quite fine here! Anyone nearby wanting to get out is welcome to join me.

As far as weekly Olathe/South JoCo write-ins go, Monday & Wednesday are better days for me (besides, Scooters is on Fridays). I'll try to make it out here to the Daily Dose/Frogplace tomorrow night.

Happy writing!

Of course, there's a Johnson County writein tomorrow/Wednesday at Central Resource Library. That's on Nov. 4 & Nov. 18.

I was thinking of looking for a coffee shop on 87th St. for Nov. 11 (Veteran's Day). Maybe Toad/Dose would do for that. Hmm...

On most weekday afternoons you can find me at One More Cup, which is located at 7408 Wornall. I don't really have a set time of arrival (except after noon), and no set time of departure (though it's usually before six), but if you want a writing buddy in the Brookside/Waldo area, I'd love to have your company. Plus, I'll be a lot more quiet and helpful, I promise!

When in doubt, check my availability by calling (816)591-5254.

Double post, but I will also be at One More Cup on Saturday morning(s?) from 8:30 AM to around noonish. Address is still 7408 Wornall Road.

Furthermore, I will no longer be available during weekday afternoons due to a new job.

Here are some location changes to the main write-ins for this Wednesday and Sunday:

Both coffeehouse have substantial food (Westport has sandwiches and baked goods, for example.)
Please don't bring major food from outside; support the business' tolerance of our camping out by buying there.

We're going to find out if we can use the separate back room at each place.

Sunday, Nov. 15: 6 pm - 10 pm
Wednesday, Nov. 25: 6 pm - 10 pm

Park in lot or on street. It's just 4 blocks south of the Writers Place.
(because the Roasterie has remodeled and there is some difficulty seating our growing numbers).

Hope to see you all at a write-in this week!

Here's a shout out for the Filling Station - it's a coffeeshop near the Union Hill neighborhood, about 27th & McGee. I've been checking out the place since it's not too far from my work. There's a potpourri of eclectic customers and very cool baristas. Lots & lots of glass to look out upon the traffic! I'd say the musical selection is also offbeat, but I've got the New Pornographers rockin' on iTunes. Anyone looking for some place in between downtown & midtown to hang out in the afternoon is welcome to join me here sometime.

Is there any more talk of an all day traveling write-in? Since my wordcount is a little under, I wouldn't mind a marathon to catch me up!

Hi all. I'm hoping to get one more great stretch of writing in before a family trip out of town Wed, so I've reserved a conference room (a bit bigger than last Wednesday's) at the brand-spanking-new Leawood Library. I'll be there from 4:45 to 8:45 pm, and I thought we could order in some pizza, if you like.

Please come join me this Tuesday, Nov. 24 if you possibly can! You are all very inspiring to me :) I'm hoping that you can come, for sure, Teri, so please let me know how I can do anything better to organize this. The library is behind the Towne Center Mall, and the turn into it is off Roe Avenue about a block north of 119th St. I've fallen into a rut these past few days, so I hope to see you all Sunday night and feel free to ask me anything more about it then.

Hope I've tempted some of you to come south for a spell, but see you soon either way!
Melisa
