Nano time is here! It is the beginning of October and that means we are on the countdown to the start of the writing. So, who is going to participate this year?
I'll start off. I'm definitely in! Several novels are now outlined and rarin' to go!

I'm in, too. I gotta admit it's going to be a rough one for me this year because I'm in the middle of moving - staying in the area, though. We're to close on our current place by 15 October and on the new place by 5 November. Sheesh! Could the timing get any crazier?
The good news is that I've got some outlining done on my novel. The bad news is how the BLEEP will I stay on track while I'm unpacking? My mantra is "This will all work out . . . this will all work out . . ."

First year Nano. Yay! I've always wanted to WriMo but never allowed myself the time to participate. This year I've even got a special writing desk. It's tucked away in the corner of my office to prevent distractions. Will it work? Time will tell. If I block Facebook I'll probably get a lot more writing accomplished!
I've got a few novels outlined and ready, but... how to decide which one to write? Hmmm. Any ideas? What do you folks do to decide?
I think I'll delve into Science Fiction for my first WriMo. Maybe even a little time travel. If I screw up I'll just go back in time and try something different and no one will know the difference. I'll get Spider Robinson to help out with that. We meet up at Callahan's regularly so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Question: Are there any planned writing events in Prescott or PV? Will there be any spontaneous writing groups meeting at the library or coffee shop or book store or bakery? I would be glad to organize an event or three if anyone showed an interest. I can take some of my WriMo flyers and ask local businesses for writing space.
Another question: Has anyone had any luck with voice recognition software? I've got a paralyzed arm and it takes a while to accomplish any serious quantity of writing. I've got a copy of IBM ViaVoice 10 that I purchased many years ago for the novelty (back when I had two functioning arms) but it seems to miss many words. Does it just need more training or is there something much better out there? If so, would anyone be willing to donate it to the cause? I'm a disabled Gulf War Vet that just bought a house that needs MUCH repair, so software isn't high on my priority list.
Greetings one and all. GOOD LUCK WITH WRIMO 2009!

Yay, someone new! Welcome to the madness!
I'm in the same boat. Have to choose between four projects. I would say whichever one that incites the most excitement in you as we draw nearer to the November 1st start date?
Yes, we do have some in the works, including a kick-off party and a write-in November 1st. We're in the process of putting them in the Google calendar. I'll be making a region-wide announcement about them just as soon as they fix the Nano email (It's not working correctly at the moment).
Do you have a some ideas of places for a few write-ins? I'd be interested to hear them. Right now we have the Prescott Library and the Yellow Leaf Coffee Co. on Willow Creek in Prescott.
I've played with a few. Dragon Naturally Speaking seems to be the best one out there. The sci-fi/paranormal romance/fantasy writer S.L. Viehl has used it when her wrists give her fits, along with many other professional writers. It's typically a little slower than typing, but it's a life-saver for people who need it. I believe you can trial it for a time, but I'm not sure how long that is.

Make sure I get an invite to the kick-off. I wouldn't miss it for all the cat-fur I could eat!
BTW: I tried to use the "free to try" version of Dragon, but it was infected with a flesh-eating virus. My wife snapped a photo of me while using the software with a headset. You can see the results:
I know. It's not pretty.
Thank you for your help and I'm looking forward to kicking a little literary @ss this year. (Can I say @ss online?) I'll see you on the 1st.

Second year of NaNo and I am DETERMINED to make it to some of these events. I'm so close to you guys, you'd figure I could make it to at least one . . .
Has anyone considered the Wildflower Bread Company up at the Gateway Mall? That's a nice place, lots of room. Not really a coffeehouse, but it would be nice regardless.

Yay, you came back! Thanks for the suggestion. I'll be in the general area this coming week, so I'll go in and see if I can talk to someone and scout the location.

New to Prescott, new to NaNo. We are moving in November, but what the heck. I had been really trying to make a story idea work and I had a totally different one come into mind and it has been haunting me. The ideas just keep coming. I don't even know if it's believable or sensible to write, but if I write 50,000 words of it in November maybe it will leave me alone and let me get back to the one I thought I wanted to write. I intend to attend as many events as I can. I look forward to meeting all of you and seeing how you are surviving the month!

Yay, you're back! I was hoping a new idea was nipping at your heels. Or maybe two or three...
Argh, the plot bunnies! We're being attacked by plot bunnies!

I'm also new to NaNo and Prescott. . . I'm looking forward to the kick off event. But unfortunately I work a swing shift and won't be able to make it to Monday night chats and Sunday coffee shop meetings. . . . .
Is there any thing to stay away from while writing? Situations experienced writers of this haul know to avoid and not follow down the rabbit hole?
Thanks. I look forward to meeting and reading everyone!

Welcome to the group! I hope you have a good time while down in Tempe. Maybe take a pad with you and make little story notes as they come to mind? I've been going everywhere with little post-it's in my pocket. :)
