Well, folks, you may have noticed that TheLorax is listed as a solitary ML for this region. And make no mistake - she is incredible, a patient and cheerful writer whose company I have been grateful for in every write-in we've done together.
She is also not an ML this year. I know, I know. There's no replacing her, honest.
In the meantime, as I am an ML, I figure it's only right that I take the time to say hello! So!
My name is Ryan, and I will be an ML for you this month. This is my fourth year doing NaNoWriMo, and I have won the past three years. My hobbies include sleeping, writing, and wondering why.
Other than that, there's not a whole lot to say. I'm putting together a lot of write-ins - mostly because I get easily distracted if I write from home, and my goal won't let me get distracted. The write-ins, as I've arranged them, are fit a certain way because they're the only times I have open. If they don't fit your schedule, that's totally fine! Y'all feel free to go ahead and arrange your own. That is what these forums are for.
The Write-Ins I currently have set-up are listed on Google Calendar. If you are not seeing it, you can 'Add A Friend's Calendar.' If that's what you choose to do, the name is: NaNoWriMo :: Raleigh-Durham Region.
So, yeah.
One other thing. This is actually the first time I've done any kind of MLing on my own. I understand that there may be a separate ML for Durham, but I can't speak for her. As such, I'm gonna have to ask for a little grace from y'all. I aim to do right by all of you, I honestly do. But I'm not perfect. I'm not going to do a perfect job at this. So, I'm going to ask for your forgiveness in advance for any stepped-on toes, missed impromptu write-ins, or attacks by ninjas.
Just because.
So! Stop on by, say hello! Also, a couple questions:
-How would y'all feel about a preliminary meet-up at the Brier Creek Caribou Coffee on Oct. 17th?
-How would y'all feel about a midnight write-in at Gypsy's Diner on Oct. 31st?
I enjoyed both events last year, and I thought it'd be a blast if we could do that again. But if y'all don't want to, definitely won't make you.

Hello new ML!
Ha, I wouldn't really know much about who was the old one because actually this is my first year doing NaNoWriMo.
So yeah, anyways, I'll introduce myself. I'm Jessica, I'm from North Carolina, of course. Although, I'm not from Raleigh or Durham, it's basically one of the few close places to me other than Greenville. I live about 3-4 hours away from each place, but that's fine.
As far as my interests go they are writing of course, listening to music, hanging out with my friends, and photography. Without writing, music, and my friends I don't think I would survive. :)
Anyways! As far as the write-ins go, I won't be able to make either of those dates. That's okay though, mainly because 1) I won't have my license until November 12th and even then, probably could only meet weekends due to the "no driving after 9" policy and 2) On October 31st I'm going to a big band competition with my friends in Havelock.
I would definitely love to do those if I could though! ;D

Hello Ryan,
Thank you for stepping up and taking the lead.
The meet up at Brier Creek and the midnight write-in sound really great. You can count on me to show up.

Howdy folks!
I'm still around, just don't have the time to volunteer as ML this year. It's all good tho, we have Ryan (Rai Yan)! He did a fabulous job at MLing last year with me. I have every confidence in him as he takes the lead this year. Should yall see him at a write-in, give him a pat on the back! He's a great writer, funny guy, thinks outside the box and provides excellent feedback and support. Raleigh-Durham is in capable hands.
Hopefully the glitch in not listing Rai Yan as an ML will be fixed soon! I may or may not retain my ML status, as I do some volunteering behind the scenes.
Prelim meet at Caribou- BC sounds good. Currently, any time that day works.
Gypsy's is great! Especially if you like being close to someone :) Sadly, I'll be out of the state and will miss it. I'll be with you in spirit though!!!

achoo! I here. Seventh NANO. Writing an unauthorized biography on The Lorax (aka Gina) this year for NANO. I've got a lot of comprising pictures. Oh! Here's one of her typing feverishly at Caribou; another typing hesitantly at Borders; here's a juicy one of her typing while doing a sex scene between the protag and antag. OMG. Here's one of her typing while sitting on Lincoln's knee. Never knew D.C. was so exciting. Typing prone; typing standing; typing while driving her Lambourgini. Wow! I can't wait to write this bio. ;)

I'm Caitlin! I meant to do NaNo last year but did not. Let's see if this year will be more successful!
I do have a question about the Google Calendar - do we need to provide an email to be invited to it? I wasn't quite sure how that works, though I'd love to be part of it because Google Calendar owns my soul and I'm managing something like four of them. :)

Hey. This year will be my second attempt at NaNoWriMo, and I'm excited about getting started!
So far, the 17th is open for me to attend the prelim. meet. Though I'm not sure if I'll want to meet on the 31st or not.
I also have question about the calendar. I'm having trouble connecting to it. Is there an email address for the account or a direct URL to the calendar that could be shared?
I'm looking forward to meeting everybody!

Hi everyone!
My name is Rachel and this is my first year doing NANO. I'm really excited about it!
I can do the meet-ups, I think. I work until 4:30-5:00ish on the 17th, but I work in Brier Creek, so it will be really easy to head to Carribou as soon as I'm off work. On the 31st I have a wedding that I'm working (second job), but we can't technically start writing until after midnight anyways, right?
I tried to add the calendar on Google, but it said it didn't have an account with the name NaNoWriMo :: Raleigh-Durham Region. I think you need an email address to add it.
anyways, I'm really looking forward to meeting other writers in the area! I've been doing this writing thing alone for the past 7 months with the exception of online friends at thenextbigwriter.com, so it will be great to actually sit and talk with people!

Howdy! This is my seventh year doing NaNo. I won't be able to make the 17th - that's the ESCAPISM film festival at the Carolina Theatre of Durham, which promises to be pretty amazing - and I doubt I'll be able to make the 31st but they both sound like a lot of fun.
I live in Durham and I tend to write at the Bean Traders on NC 54 at Homestead Marketplace. I also sometimes write at Ideas! on NC 55 or at Cup-a-Joe at Timberlyne in Chapel Hill.
Looking forward to this year! I'm writing fantasy, which is a genre I generally hate, so it's either going to be a lot of fun or endless torture. :)

17th is a no-go for me, but I'll be there on the 31st.
And I have no problem calling/texting Ryan (like I just did), when something isn't working.
Oh yeah, and my name is Michelle, and this is my third year doing Nano. I've won the past two years (yay!), and love going to write-ins.
See everyone soon!

Yikes, guys, I had no idea this would be a problem.
Fortunately, I think I have a solution: http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=raleighml%40gmail.com&ctz=Ameri...
It says New York, but it'll take you to us. The default month at this point is October, but you can toggle it over to November to see the stuff that's set up so far.
If that doesn't work for you guys, tell me so and I'll see about another fix.

Got the calendar added! Rock n' roll! (If anyone else has problems like me, you can click the Google Calendar icon at the bottom right of this one and it'll take you to your personal one and add. Which is nifty as all get-out. Love it.)
The proposed Gypsy's Shiny Diner write-in sounds really awesome. I do hope we're encouraged to come in costume since I'm sure many of us will be out for Halloween festivities beforehand. :) (And I'll be helping do a radio drama of War Of the Worlds on 88.1 FM at 7 PM, if you guys don't mind me pimping out my side projects.)

This is my sixth year participating in NaNo and hopefully my fourth straight win. We'll see how it goes, being new to the area and working 3:30pm to midnight on an almost daily basis whether or not I'll be able to attend write ins.
I'm looking forward to meeting you all.

Hi all! Check my profile and you'll see I'm full of NaNo fail. However, I still give it the old college try. I'm a librarian by day, and determined to write myself the book I'd like to read (since I can't seem to find one that suits me on my own). I'd love to get together with some other NaNoers--I've never done a write-in, but I'd love to try! Looking forward to a bizarre November!

We are available to help you out, just let us know what we can do. We were considering being MLs this year but didn't know how to go about it. So we can just help you : )
We are going to hold another Pajama Party Write In towards the end of November up her in the far north of Raleigh. We had so much fun with it last year. We can also set up write-ins up here for those who live on this side of the Triangle.
Thank you for taking on ML! You'll be great at it!

Hey, y'all! I'm not quite sure what I'll be doing for my NaNo, but I'm relatively certain that I'll be going outside my comfort zone. Y'all can just call me Phantom (I guess I got my dad's distrust of the Intrawebz?). Anyway, I probably won't be at any write-ins, the lack of a license kinda doesn't allow you to do that. But I've got some amazing friends who have already told me they will be kicking my butt if I don't get it in gear this year.

this may be a little novicey. but please define ML and your role. I think I figured it out from your post. But, I am good at not figuring things out the way they were supposed to be (my creative side I guess). Anyway, in the real world, I ask lots of questions to make sure I have the same vocabulary for words and thoughts as the person I am communicating with. Although, cross-talk can have some really weird or hilarious results.

Greetings oh Brave Ones.
Who but the brave would attempt this? I planned on starting last year. Funny thing happened on the way to November, I was in a coma from Oct. 21 to Oct 31. Wasn't quite up to trying to write. Couldn't understand sentences at the time. Did give me a lot of information to put in stories that I would never have planned on having.
I am retired due to medical issues. But, that doesn't mean I can't function like a regular person. I just can't keep it up for four to eight hours per day without down or rest time.
Am developing a whole new me. At the moment I am enjoying birdwatching from my apartment balcony. I am slightly above the top of most of the trees. The critters never even know they're being spied on! I like to do needlework and textile work, paint, travel, meet new people, and see what each new day turns into by nighfall.

Wow, you made it through a coma. Color me awed.
ML = municipal liaison. My 'job,' if you will, is to facilitate write-ins, read the forums every day, answer questions, and just make sure that things are okay for as many people as I can manage. It's nothing stilted or formal - you won't see me wearing a badge that says ML or anything like that... though that may not be a bad idea, come to think of it.
Does this answer your question?

Hey all! I signed up a few years ago but this will be my first actual attempt! I have one dead nearly finished novel "in the drawer" - totally psyched to start fresh and see where the freewriting takes me.
I can't do the 17th but might be able to make the one on the 31st. I live in Durham near Chapel Hill.
Good luck to us all !

Hi. I had planned on doing nano last year and meeting up with some fellow local writers, but life got in the way. I was pregnant and sick as a dog by late October. Lasted eight months..fun stuff. I'm super excited to give it another go this year. Not sure how often I'll get to head out for write-ins, now that I've got my little daughter, but I like the evening times. I just might be able to swing it. Either way, it's going to be an adventure.
