I haven't got a clue yet but it would be good to hear what you're all writing about!

The basic plot of mine is easy - it's just explaining the backstory that's the hard part! I did try in my livejournal recently, if you want to check that out. If not, here's a quick run-down:

*Alchemists & immortality
*Alchemy/magic... I blur the lines a little here
*An ordinary girl mixed up in a strange world
*On the run from the Big Bad and his servants
*"Self-enlightenment" grants special power unique to yourself... but it can be stolen!

It's my first time writing urban fantasy, and also my first time seriously writing in first person. I'm kinda nervous! It's another new experience for me this year. I still have the same goal, though: finish the darned novel within the month! Not managed that yet thus far. This year, though, I think I can do it. (Although I say that every year!)

Also aiming for 70k again this time. But let's see about that.

I have got an idea floating around in my head basically it is about a boy and girl that grow up together and fall in love, thing is i'm not yet sure whether it is going to be based in the future or into the present leading up to the future or in the 70's/80's leading up to present days thats all i can say for now as that's all i know :D My writing usually comes as i type sometimes it can be a load of mumbo jumbo (a lot like this reply is turning out to be!!) sometimes it can be good though

I can however see fields of wild flowers and children (around 10) holding hands gonna be a sort of childhood friends becoming married couple kind of thing

Mine follows the path of two MCs (main characters). One, a bewildered man has just woken up with no memories at all and cognitively imprints on the cat he finds in his room, his story then follows his attempts to reintegrate into normal society and develp his ferral personality into something more 'normal'.

The other MC is a master criminal whose a little bit loopy. His story sees him develping from a young disaffected individual into, first, a reluctant crimnal and the into something more ruthless.

The two characters get closer and closer together until their paths meet in an explosive climax (I hope), after that the story doesn't end, as the dust setles there's a little more story to be told.

I have no clue! I have a particular Doctor Who writing project that I'm working on (that I'm not allowed to talk about) that needs to be finished by December, but it's only supposed to be about 36,000 words so I can't use that. However, an idea for a novel has been brewing in my head for months, just need to work out the main plot now...

I have no idea! I just know I want to stay far away from anything like I did last year (non-magic fantasy of manners), and write something epic and awesome and possibly containing dragons or lasers or both.

I'm actually doing one of two things. I'm staying in a Universe I've done a few thing in already.

Basicly, Since Nano, I did a 1K in a day, and wrote a flash fiction peice with the first two characters of one Project.. as seen here the title is "Yellow Snow" with reason http://big-nutter.livejournal.com/43580.html I wrote to give myself a feel for Anan, before I throw her in a very bad situation in an opening chapter.

The other peice is more likey, not exactly starting a New novel.. But I'm starting a new Section on Nov 1 if I've not started it..

Am going for a total rewrite of a short story I wrote several years back called The Final Message. It was written in first-person and was basically about a team of scientists and marines sent to a science research station in Antarctica after a garbled call for help is intercepted and communication cut off.

Of course, they start getting killed off in ones and twos, but the idea was not to reveal (at least until the end) who or what was stalking them. The idea of using first-person also allowed me to kill off characters remotely and thus not having to go into any "live" descriptions of how they died.

I ran out of steam towards the end (it was 12.5K words at the end of the first draft) and it almost turned into a bit of a zombiefest.

I'm probably not going to write the novelisation in first-person. Additional ideas to thicken out the plot may make that too difficult. Though there is a possibility of going with a mixture of the two perspectives. It depends on how confident I feel I can handle such without making it look like a complete dog's dinner...

I have come up with a working title- "Neighbourhood".

The title is glaring at me from the walls of my office on a green post it note the size of three green coop stamps (Possibly Only Mark will remember them :P). I intend to fill my walls with lots of post it notes the way Will Self does when he works (fact gleamed recently from a book entitled" How I write") At the minute I just see lots of Magnolia paint and that disheartens me for many reasons...

Like last year I don't have much material for my tale YET so I'd love it if you all had a think about anecdotes of weird neighbours you have had so that I could steal them for my novel and immortalise them forever.

I'm doing a 'proper' sci fi this year--usually I don't have space ships, amazing technology etc, it's just set in the future. However, I had a dream the other night, and I'm going to use that as the basis for my novel because it was rather exciting.

Basically, my main character is an archaeologist called Vari on her last dig before retiring from the field. She's asked to go to the Moon, to look at the history of the Lunar Colonies, from the Space Race during the Cold War, to the destruction of the First Colony (a Quaker settlement which was bombed by the US), through the second Cold War between the EU and US, right up to the present day Troubles since the disintigration of the US left lots of nuclear powered space rockets cheaply available, along with equipment to exploit the Moon's resources. The Moon was modified so that it's got oxygen etc and some plant life, although the main attraction is the gold and other precious minerals, so lots of Enterprisers have gone up and the place is still pretty much a war zone. Vari's assisted by a Moonwalker (an elite special forces soldier based on the moon) and two research assistants. There's quite a bit of conflict between the two groups--they look down on the Moonwalker (who doesn't yet have a name), while he finds them naieve and irritating. There's especially lots of conflict between the assistant Mark and the Moonwalker, because Mark's a pacifist and also rather wimpy and pathetic, and so he keeps niggling at the Moonwalker and asking how he can possibly stand being a soldier and killing people etc. Vari determines to dig at the First Colony, despite the Moonwalker's repeated attempts to dissuade her because it's still very much a disputed area. While they're looking at the remnants of the First Colony, they find something much, much older. As in pre-Egyptian older. And they find a 'man', specially augmented (basically turned into a robot), who calls himself an Immortal when they inadvertantly wake him up. But the civilisation from which he harks was incredibly advanced, and Vari etc are not the only ones interested in him. And the other group is fully prepared to kill to get their hands on the Immortal.

So yeh, that's what I'm currently planning. Although the past two years I've done nanowrimo I had a plan about this far in advance and then about three days before starting I randomly switched to another ideas. But I like this one.

Unfortunately, Iris, I don't have very interesting neighbours, but I'll ask around a little and see if I can find any good stories for you. Good luck!

Mine is about two MCs find one or two giants who talk to riddles (maybe scottish magicial giants too) so they have help them return home. they were left behind after they were sent to collect some objects. inbetween finding the things they need to return home, the MCs have a fight about their friendship. that's all i have right now but it looks good in my head. :)

Mine's about a girl who wants to find someone who 'ticks all the boxes'. Her mum and dad are unsupportive and traumatised over her missing sister, and her best friend is rendered homeless with 2 children. The MC lives her life by relying on lucky pennies to predict what will happen and by making lists. She eventually meets a man who seems to be Mr Perfeect, but he has a secret.

Its a sort of transition between a future based on luck/fate/design to a future based on an unpredictable blank slate.

I hope. So far.
It might change.

After some brainstorming, I've come up with something vaguely resembling a plot, or at least a setting and some characters, which will do in a pinch. It's a mix of WWII-era action/adventure and sword-and-planet (because the only better villains than Nazis are space Nazis). Think John Carter of Mars joining the cast of Inglourious Basterds. There's still dragons, too!

Now I'm all excited to begin. I've got to start sitting on my hands or something.

Up until 5 minutes ago I didn't have any ideas whatsoever, but I was daydreaming in a lecture and something just magically came to me :) I'm keeping it under wraps for now, mostly because it's a tender new idea and it needs to stand my 'time-test' (if I still like it in a week, I'll use it). But, needless to say, I'm relieved to have something.

Mine is a historical fantasy romance - a typical sword and sorcery story.

That is unless I change my mind and do one of the other ideas in my head :-)

I've decided to branch out into the world of romantic fantasy (oh dear) simply for the hell of it and to see if I can do it. If that fails I have another story on the back-burner that I've already started writing but can probably substitute if the other falls through.

Or maybe I'll try and do them both! I managed 100k last year so...

Then again, that's like 200k total. Nevermind. I'd die. o_O

So for now I'll just leave it at a romantic supernatural tale (with an emphasis on the romance). Not particularly deep or meaningful, mostly just something fun for teens XD

When I first did NaNoWriMo in 2007 I joined on Nov 2nd with no plot as I hadn't planned on doing it (hadn't even heard of it!). Thus I decided on the spot on a set of characters so far removed from my life that they were definitely fiction all the way! I just went where the story took me.

Last year i decided not to come up with a plot until November 1st, so I'm deliberately blocking any ideas from my head, or at least trying to, but they have a tendency to pop in there ever more often as November approaches.

So, yes, no clue yet, but I like it that way, I think - I might have a different view if I'm still sat here on November 2nd with no ideas!

This year it's a horror novel lol... for adults or children I do not yet know... but knowing me it will be gory, bizarre and completely mad so I don't think the age group matters!

Haha!

This is the synopsis I've written (and will likely change 20 times before Nov. 1st!)

It all starts with a single child…

There are creatures roaming the streets of London. No one knows who they are but they leave dozens of bodies in their wake. The people are terrorised, not knowing who might be next. Violent murder awaits anyone who happens to cross the creature’s paths…

Then a man falls from the sky and meets a young urchin and pick-pocket called Dalton. The man dresses strangely, has an accent from the North and talks about things that have not yet happened.

He is investigating the creatures in London among other things. He claims that all through Time creatures have appeared out of nowhere. Dalton is determined to defeat them after the death of his adopted Ma. The stranger promises to take him on the journey that will reach right through Time and Space.

Together, they start an epic voyage where they will meet creatures both bad and good. The Witches of France, the Reapers… all will play a part in a battle of good versus evil.

I have, for the first time ever, got a complete outline written out with no hazy areas in the middle to make me come unstuck.

It's a pretty bleak thriller called "Saviours". A 19 year old gets kidnapped by a guy who abuses him repeatedly whilst trying to make him his companion in murder, because he believes he is saving people from the restraints of society by forcing their primal animalistic urges to the front of their personality - hence the title. The 19 year old's friend was almost a victim of him and has just come out of a coma, and she hunts about to find out his identity to stop him, and there's a big huge tense climax which I can *see* in my head... I'm looking forward to this so much.
People die, animals die, there's rape and murder and things like that... It's very unlike my usual romantic fantasy plots, probably why I'm so excited about it.

Here's a simple thought, I want to take the whole Romeo & Juliet idea and fast forward it to the far future (though unlike Baz Luhrmann, update the dialogue as well!)... cue two rival families (Dune, anyone?) and, just like Shakespeare, the focus will be on the blossoming relationship between these two young adults, knowing that condemnation will be swift and strong if it ever gets out that they are in love!

That's all I know so far and no doubt the story will tell me the rest!

I'm going for a Royal Arranged Marriage theme this year, and am currently strugelling to think of a title and to find a really nice piece of cover art.

My plot line is gonna be that two young royals (its sort of historical but sort of not) find out that they are betrothed. At first they are resentful but they gradually start to like each other and fall in love. there are gonna be some troubles along the way and i want to include the wedding coz i want the girl to be 16 and the boy to be 18 when they get married, an also a couple of years after that.

Charactors:

Princess ??? : sweet, innocent, loves music (singer), very beautiful
Prince Lucas: Strong, hansom (looks like Alex Prettyfer)
King ????: Princesses dad (her mum died when she was young)
Queen ???: Lucas' mum
other charactors to be decided

Themes:
- arranged marriage
- death
- miscarage (later chapters)

if anyone can think of a title, charactor names ar know of a nice piece of art i can use for the cover then if you could let me know i would be very grateful.

see-through bab...

Mine's science-fiction, a space opera with a slightly steampunk flavour. The Remarkable Adventures of Jonathan Hotshot. The main character is a sort of Harry Flashman-type character, only in space. I got bitten by a plotbunny a few days ago, that kept me awake til 3am with planning and ideas.

I'm writing a teen novel called A GUY CALLED PIG.
It's going to be a bit darker than my normal writing. It's going to be about obsession, passion and survival.

But who knows, it usually always changes when I start writing! x

My story is YuGiOh fanfiction, but its AU, so its almost original XD Only almost though.

Kinda needs a big explaination though, so here goes.

There's two universes: Wonderland (which I created) and the 'real world' (which is a circus my friend made up). The main character is a lion-boy called Marik, who stumbles across the entrance to Wonderland completely by accident while playing with the Ringleader's hat (which is the portal XD).

The main chunk of the story is Marik trying to find his way back to the 'real world' and also find out where the Ringleader vanished off to. On his journey he meets his 'mirror' (who is the same character [Marik] but different), who is the Cheshire Cat. These two are my main characters.

Marik basically has hell of a time trying to find his way home, and the Cheshire Cat pops up from time to time to help him. There's also other members of the circus involved, as well as a bunch of Wonderland characters and a TON of other random minor characters XD

... Yeah it sounds confusing but it's just pretty hard to explain ^^;;; My idea has been brewing in my mind for a couple of months now, and it started off as a bunch of artwork one by me and my friend. It's kinda just been created as we went along so its hard to explain how our thought patterns work... if that makes sense XD

Ok I sort of have an idea. I'm going to write in the epistolary style (novels made of letters/e-mails etc) because that's what I'm doing my dissertation on. (This way I can fool myself it's research and not feel bad for ignoring my uni work!!)
I have an idea of a girl who goes to read for an elderly lady and they form a friendship. Then she dies and the old lady leaves all her belongings to her to sort out. But a man turns up claiming to be her grandson. Is he? I don't know yet!
Yeah, no idea for the ending, but i'm sure it'll come!

I'm still partially undecided whether to continue a sci-fi/comedy/fantasy I've been writing for upwards of a year now and try to finish it in NaNo month. That's called Random Setting. Or whether to start a new one called Second Life (nothing to do with the online community) that's more dystopian sci-fi than anything else.

Random Setting is your classic girl-boy-spaceship travels, reading something like a TV series in the way there are a series of 'adventures' they go on, but it has an interesting story-arch that I'm really excited about. That's already on about 50k but I want to finish off the last fifty and get it edited and done. I have all my ideas loosely sorted for this one.

Second Life is about a girl who finds out the world was artificially created around her by her scientist parents. She'd been in the program since she was two but when she reached seventeen they stopped the program and pulled her back to the real world which is the not-too-distant future. The future world is meant to be like a perfect world and the books about the repurcussions of the experiment and Eleanor's (main character) adaptation to life.

This turned out much longer than I'd originally thought! xD
