Huge war against extra-dimensional beings some 2000 years before the main events, a worldwide war that killed off more than half of the world population a couple centuries before, another invasion of said extra-dimensional beings five years before the beginning (though restricted to only a few regions), a big dimensional cataclysm planned near of volume II.

My novel last year was about an apocolypse. This year my world is somewhere along the lines of post apocolypitic. The world became uninhabitable except for a large floating city that was built. Not the usual post apocolyptic but somewhere along those lines!

My novel builds up to the apocalypse and ends with it. In my story it's because of an alien invasion, though :)

My novel involves a planet that is post-apocalyptic to the point where functional cities have been rebuilt by a race of robots that spawned from the junk piles, though everything outside of the cities are just as desolate and destroyed as it was right after the apocalypse that killed off all the previous inhabitants. I'm still working on how the robots got there in the first place (I feel like having a robot built by a previous inhabitant right before everyone died is a bit too cliche), but I figure I can work that out during the novel if I need to.

In my novel, there is a huge ice storm, which leads up to the apocalypse. Only a handful of emotionally disturbed children and normal, nice kids remain.

my story isn't post-apocalyptic, exactly, but the world is for the most part uninhabitable unless you want to get cancer or something from fall out, or get killed by odd zombie-like things. it's post world war/nuclear holocaust.

mine is semi apocolypsey. Something has happened to the sun (not exactly sure what yet) and it is going to either go nova or expand into a red giant prematurely, either of which would destroy all life on earth

It happened a few centuries ago, resulting in tide waves and earthquakes that wiped out a lot of the races but a few survived and set up a new world. There's some advancement in different technologies and magic and robots and creatures from other dimensions and eternal twins who are keepers of the history from times before. I don't really consider it as a true sci-fi or a true fantasy but a little mix of the two.

Half of my novel involves an attempt to stop the end of the world (in an alternate 1904), and the other half takes place hundreds of years after the apocalypse (2276) in a drowned, frozen Earth populated by mutants (there are cities and governments, not just a bunch of feral people.) And all of this universe and its apocalypses (this end of the world was actually the 7th time the world ended) are part of the imagination of an unidentified entity known only as The Spider's Mind. And the main characters are archetypes that have become self-aware. It's post-apocalyptic metafiction.

The setting in my novel is post apocalyptic. More than half of the human population has been wiped out, and those that remain are living day-to-day. Nature has covered the entire Earth; there is no longer any traces of infrastructure. In my novel, it's not important how the future came to be but what will happen to the remaining humans. There is an organization that wishes to kill those who remain(I'm still not sure why).

Well, I got a post-apocalyptic world in my story. Kind of, I guess. (The third of one country even gets reduced to a desert-like environment.) It's actually the same world I used for my story in 2008, just this time it's about 100 years later and a lot of things kinda went wrong:
The cause is a great world-war (smaller countries got dragged into it too). The trigger for that war was that the "normal" people found out that there are people with supernatural powers, as well as creatures that are able to shift into a human form. The bigger countries began to compare each other to the amount of these supernatural powers their countries harboured. When it became known that there was even a secret organisation that kept the knowledge of the supernatural beings hidden, everything kind of escalated. (That organisation divided the world into territories, rather then countries when they took action, like, 'this part' is northern territory, 'that one' is southern, and so on. This kind of division didn't care for country borders or whatsoever.) Hateful propaganda was also a mentionable cause for that disaster.

:'D ... like I said ... a world I build and then kinda crashed it. Worst case scenario.

I would like to think of it as a post apocalypse, but it seems more like it was a semi abandoned planet. For there was some natural diasters, and viruses...basically the same problems we deal with today. While the enviroment has dried up in some places and flooded areas else were. Though that water isn't nesscary clean.

My plot is kind of about preventing a mini-apocalypse. A comet is headed for a city, and my MCs have to evacuate it. But first, they have to learn the language(s) of the planet they crashed on and escape from slavery.

Is it apocalyptic when man had nothing to do with it?

In my novel, because of the Earth's cycling patterns of revolutions around the sun another Ice Age hits. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milankovitch_cycles )

Man has to set up a system to survive and it, thusly, makes a utopia/distopia,

Sort of,

My colonists take off for the great unknown as the alternative to breaking out the planet-buster nukes and destroying both sides.

They get to a point where its obvious that their staring apocalypse in the eye so they seek, and find, a last-ditch, political solution short of doomsday.

Mine is actually an apocalyptic story in a way.

There is a magnetic field shift and a series of solar events happening simultaneously that take out the technology. At this point, the society has learned to depend on the technology to the point that when it's taken away, they either band together or turn against each other. By the time the tech comes back, the population has decreased to those who managed to band together, and nothing is quite the same again.

Of course, there's also weird mental abilities springing up, just to complicate matters, but that's something that tends to crop up in my stories (and why I tend to write more in modern fantasy genres, too).

My story kind of takes place in the middle of the apocalypse. Since seeing Zombieland got me into my couple-times-a-year zombie madness mindset, I'll be doing a zombie fic this year.

It starts out in the middle of the zombie invasion... not so late that the salvation of humanity is impossible, but not so early that there's just one or two zombies. There will be flashbacks to show how each character came to be in the group and through those combined flashbacks the identity of the one who caused the zombies to roam the earth will be revealed. They must set out to stop him. Sounds average, I know, but I have some twists and turns in mind... >:D

My novel takes place in a post-apocalyptic world ... but there wasn't necessarily an apocalypse. Basically, aliens are now inhabiting the Earth which has been limited to the middle east and surrounding area. Humans live as slaves. That sort of jazz.

My setting isn't what I typically think of as post-apocalyptic, but the apocalypse did happen. Earth was destroyed by a hostile alien race a couple of centuries before the start of the story, but no one survived that and there's nothing to go back to. The story is about the colonies whose founders left before Earth's destruction, which themselves are under threat of that same destruction but have not yet suffered it.

My novel is set about 330 years AP (Post Apocalypse), after humanity has mostly evacuated to other planets. It's not a big part of the story, which is really a war novel about characters on both sides - one for the Interplanetary Federation, the other for a planet that wants to remain independent, but it's definitely in the background, and the sole reason that the Federation exists in the first place.

My story appears to be post-apocalyptic, yeah. I decided to take the road less travelled and blame a massive asteroid strike in the Pacific Ocean as the cause of the end of the world as we know it, although there's a few other reasons for the situation as it is, including fuel being used up, general degradation of society and collapse of an already fragile world government which everyone had effectively become dependent on to continue existing as they were. Essentially, it wiped out half the planet's population and permanently messed up the climate, leading us all into a big impact winter that was not assisted in any way by the ice caps expanding again during the time when fuels stopped being burnt (lots of water was displaced by the original impact, too :P) and a few WMDs being tossed about in the confusion. Oh, and computers don't really work anymore. That's knocked everyone back to the dark ages apart from in very particular instances.

I'm still hammering down details on the plot, but it's looking to be a survival story (at first)/adventure/road trip (minus vehicles, of course) rolled into one.

Well, I'm not sure there's going to be an actual apocalypse, and if there is, it'll be the epilogue, but my MC (Sam) is going to be predicting the apocalypse (after a bunch of other people's predictions have been proven incorrect-- go figure). But they're in an Earth kind of like the one in M.T. Anderson's Feed, with some significant differences. But writing the apocalypse will be very fun. :)

I'm going for a form of post-apocalyptic Earth, though my apocalypse wasn't a single event, more of a long collapse of civilization under pressure from environmental factors, war, famine, plague - basically, what's left after the four horsemen have circled the planet a few times each. One of the questions behind the story is whether they're at a position where a new civilization can form and develop or if it's just a last brief coda before all the lights on Earth go out for good.
