The Sunday write-ins don't have to be the only weekly write-ins.
The Cup Day write-in doesn't have to be the only special day write-in.
Last year, we had write-ins at Complete Post, an office building where we could write in a comfortable meeting room and also use the kitchen and BBQ areas. Monique has let me know that we're able to use the building again, perhaps for a couple of Saturday write-ins if people are interested, so please post here if you are so I can let her know so she can let us know when she'll be able to swing it.
As well as that, if anyone wants to organise any write-ins on other days (or nights, or afternoons, or whenevers) or at alternate locations, since we are spread out all across Victoria here, please feel free to let us all know in this thread, and I can add them to the calendar.
Ideally a write-in location should be accessible by public transport, have enough room for a fair few people to gather (we can get anywhere from 5 to 15 people turn up, judging from past years), have plenty of power points (or you can request that people bring powerboards/extension cords), and be okay for people to have food and drink there. If you think extra chairs or cushions might be needed, mention it in your post. It might also be worth mentioning any pets that live at the venue: some people might be allergic to cats, or simply not appreciate your tarantula colony.
So, if you want to host a write-in, or if you're interested in the Complete Post write-in idea, please reply!

I would love to have another Complete Post Write-in (I nearly wrote 'CP write-in', before realising it could be misinterpreted... you know what I mean)!

The Complete Post write-in sounds like great fun, and since I have nothing to do all November but write I am turning up to everything that's going. Unless, y'know, I die.
I was going to offer up a regular evening, (or afternoon or whenever other people would like) write-in, if people would be up to travelling down to Frankston of an evening/afternoon/whenever. And as long as you don't mind having to talk to Sid, the parrot. This can be any day/time that would be good for most people since I have nothing else to do. I will totally bake you cookies and cakes, too, because that's what I do when I procrastinate.

I'd be up for Complete Post write-ins. They were a heap of fun. I can probably bring a spare powerboard if needed and I might be convinced to make chocolate fudge again.

Melbourne write ins are going to be next to impossible for me to attend with the distance and my RL commitments. But a Geelong based write in would be fantastic! Anyone else interested in a regional Victoria write in? Any ideas for a venue?

For Geelong write-in venues, I'd suggest Cafe GO! in Bellarine St (owner is lovely and would set a big table aside if we asked. Also great food and coffee!), or we could set up camp in the library near Johnstones Park, or Guf (gaming cafe in Lt Malop St), but I'm not sure if that'd work (also it costs per hour). I think the problem is that we don't really have that many people down here (that I know of). If we could get a group of 5-10 people from Geelong, I'd be happy to open my lounge room and kitchen for a write-in!

I'd like it if the write-ins didn't clash with each other, so I have the following suggestions:
Saturday 7th: Frankston (Lady Lovelace) and Geelong (Bella)
Saturday 14th: Complete Post (Monique)
Saturday 21st: Frankston (Lady Lovelace) and Geelong (Bella)
Saturday 28th: Complete Post (Monique)
I figured putting Frankston and Geelong on the same days would be okay because they're so geographically diverse, people can go to whichever is closest.
I've had PMs of interest in the Frankston write-in, and I'd be able to get down there myself (if it's near PT!). We already know Complete Post is a good one. I don't know exactly how many people would be around for a Geelong one, so if people can respond here as soon as possible, can Bella please pick a venue (I'm delegating to you since you offered your place)?
If we confirm these dates I'll add them to the calendar. If they don't work for the hosts, post here and we'll figure something out.

That sounds excellent, Lauren. Frankston would've been a little far for us Geelong-ites to travel!
269 McKillop st, East Geelong
Contact no.: 0433 340 765
Easiest way to get here (by public transport) is route 45. Us Geelong folk don't have fancy stop numbers like Melbourne does, but if you're coming from the city, just press the button after you pass the big Apco. Walk down Meakin st, swing a right at McKillop, and we're the brick house surrounded by weatherboards. On Saturday afternoons, I think they only run once every hour (there's probably other buses that come close, so check the metlink site if you like).
I'll be ready to write from 1PM onwards. Big, fully functioning kitchen, lots of couches, and two little puppy dogs (if anyone's allergic/doesn't like dogs, let me know beforehand so I can usher them out [they think they own the lounge room :P])
Lauren: Could you pwetty pwease create a FB event? So then I can also invite my local friends to pressure them into NaNo :-D
EDIT: Oh, and we also have wi-fi and spare computers available if needed.

Excellent idea, having the Geelong and Frankston ones simultaneously.
I suppose directions would be helpful, eh? A Google Map.
Brief directions - If you're coming by Public Transport, you'll want to take the train to the end of the Frankston line, then head over to the bus stop and catch the Route 770 bus, which will take you to a request stop on Ashleigh avenue, right near the end of Wangarra Rd (look for the roundabout). Walk up the insanely steep hill until you come to number 79 (about 300m, or so). It's a big white and blue house, you can't miss it, and I'll put balloons up on the fence.
If you were driving, you could take either the Nepean Highway or the Frankston Freeway, depending where you were coming from. If you can get yourself onto Cranbourne Rd, you turn off into Lindrum Rd (there's a carwash on the corner) and Wangarra Rd will be a few streets up on your left. If you get as far as Cranbourne Rd and get lost, there's a big red building with "Glenn Ryan Real Estate" on the sign. Drop in there and ask for Glenn, he'll tell you where the NaNoWriMo write-in is. Tell him Cecilia sent you.
Clear as mud? Good.

This is a great idea :) I'm interested in the South Melbourne and Frankston write-ins, but I can probably only drop in on some Saturdays. I usually meet up with a writers' group on that day.

Lovelace- how easy is it to get to your place from the station? My ma lives in Franga and getting a bus from the station to her place on the weekends are very random and they're the type of buses to stop early in the day- but that's in the area she lives. Is it easy to get to and from your place to the station?

As far as I know, the buses run all day. You have to take a different bus back (from the same stop) if it's after a certain time, but since the other bus has already stopped you wouldn't get confused, I suppose. My grandma often travels on the buses to and from the station on Saturdays and Sundays and I've never know there to be a problem, and we live in the same general area.
If it came to it I could always run people to the station in the car. Might be two trips depending on numbers, but I'm ok with that if you are :)

Hello Monique here, let me just check with the Managing Director (she's sitting across from me blathering on about Vitamin D curing Aspergers...)
Okay, she says the 14th and the 28th are fine so... Book em Nano! (please excuse daggy joke)
Alas Sundays are no good for me this November, but I hope to be better organised next year and that Sunday CP write in's will be possible again.
Also no BBQ facilities are available at CP this year as some *expletive deleted* stole the BBQ. However another 'Roast In' may be a possibility (I nominate myself not to peel potatoes this year.)

What time, Monique? Did we do 1PM last time, or was it earlier for the cookingness? I can't remember since I think I only made it to one :-( But I got lots of dead pig bits, so it was good.
Yay everyone! I'll add these write-ins to the calendar on the weekend; I'd quite like to get to bed sometime today and am going out for dinner at Church Street Enoteca tomorrow night (paid for by work, to try and cushion the fact that my whole department's being given the boot).
This makes me very very happy; more write-ins are good and especially the part where we're branching out a bit so people who can't always come get to attend. I'm so proud of y'all for this. We have such a fantastic region!
Nice one on the mapping too, Alex. It's fun to see where people are and the extras.

The time's mainly so I can put it on the calendar properly; it's either that or 'all day' and though I doubt people are gung-ho enough to rock up at 6AM, I don't want to give anyone the wrong idea.
Bags me not peeling potatoes either. I don't know if being an ML grants me an exemption from peeling potatoes, but I am willing to abuse my authoritah.

Hmm... if I want to avoid eastlink or citylink I may have to rock up to Frankston Write ins early - Burke road is hell come lunch time.
On the other hand, if people want a lift, I'd be departing from the Melbourne Uni area around 10AM to 11 AM
And I have to say I only picked 1PM for cup day start last year to allow myself a leisurely sleep in and some time to frantically run around the house cleaning...
:)
