Welcome to the inn! Come in, come in, take a seat

*gestures to an assortment of mismatching furniture*

There's a fire over there, beanbags in the far corner, bookcases on the left, mind the dog. We have a wide assortment of potent and non-potent beverages, as well as a wonderful range of delicious snacks (although I'd go easy on the cookies if I were you).

*slumps into a sofa with the new Terry Pratchett and a glass of mulled wine*

So I'm not sure if this'll catch on, but I thought it was worth a try. It's not supposed to be an RPG thread as such, just somewhere where people can hang out and chew the fat, as it were.

Oh, yay! An inn?
*curls up on a beanbag*
One of my favourite places online is the "tavern" on another forum.

*claims a beanbag near the dog* This looks like the perfect place to be plotting at. *pulls out laptop and pulls up outline* Only 24 more days to go! Almost ready for the first.

Plotting, huh? I suppose I should do that some time... but even though exam madness has ended, work does still take up too much of my energy, and then there are those darn driving lessons every other day. Why did I think it was a good idea to learn how to drive again?

I understand the work situation. I honestly do most of my plotting during English Class. Or late at night when I'm waiting for my husband to get home. Yikes! Driving lessons. I'm sure those are time consuming.

Not so much time-consuming as scary. So I spend the hours after work and before the lesson worrying about it, and the hours after the lesson and before bedtime trying to stop feeling frustrated and embarrassed.
Talking about bedtime, that's approaching fast.

Hey, cool! An inn! *plops down in an old armchair*

You know, you guys are probably right and I really should be plotting right about now. *pulls out a notebook and the official plotting pen* My official goal for this NaNo is two completed novels, but I only started prepping yesterday. Thankfully, the first idea has taken off like crazy and is nearly outlined - I do these little micro-outline things, where each chapter just gets a sentence or two describing what happens, so this is not quite as impressive as it sounds. But don't you love it when novels write themselves? Hopefully the actual writing will go just as well!

Not to mention I don't even have a solidified idea for the second novel yet. Hmmm, I might be spending a little more time in this armchair than I planned on...

Puppy! *runs to pet the doggy and then begins sneezing violently*

What a lovely inn! I think I'll sit here by the fire and come up names for my women characters who are supposed to represent the virtues...

*running in the inn to get away from the heat outside*

Why is it that even after dark, central Texas in October is still eighty+ degrees?

*Plops herself into a fluffy recliner near a corner of the room, moving her purse, book back, and laptop case around her*

*exhales, and then slips a travel mug of tea out of her bookbag to sip quietly as she observes the room*

It's a crisp, wintery morning this morning. Makes a change from the wet and wild bluster of the last few days. I need coffee though

*ladels out some coffee-coloured sludge from a huge pan on the stove*

mmm, that's better. Almost strong enough to stand a spoon up in. (not my line originally, but accurate all the same)

well we've got pretty much anything you'd be after!

I'm waiting for my hangover to kick in. There's no way I've dodged this bullet, and I'm incredibly suspicious of how fine I feel right now....

*barges in through the doors*

Oh my gosh, I'm so glad there's someone else who is in driving lessons/going to be getting their driver's license here. I'm going through it right now too but the people who run the exams are on strike, so I have to wait. It's unnerving to me to have to consider the test right now, the waiting makes it worse!

*flops onto a comfy easy chair*

This is nice...

*enjoying her driving lesson-free evening*

There's another lesson tomorrow, but at least that will be in the daytime - maybe I'll be more rested then, and also, it won't be dark.
I don't even want to think about exams yet. Not worried about the theoretical one next week, but the practical one - fear! Fear!

*ducks inside, shaking off rain and cold and far too many bags.* Damn unseasonable October.

*grabs the armchair immediately closest to the bookshelf. Bags to the non-bookshelf side of the chair, dripping jacket hung on the coatrack near the door. Walks over to the fire to ladle up a mug of hot, cinnamon-smelling apple cider. Finally drops backwards into the armchair with a sigh.*

Don't mind me, I probably won't be getting up for a while. This looks like a cozy little corner to sit and maybe just try to do some plotting in between all my grading, before it hits November and the workload and the weather both get even more ghastly.

I've wasted another whole evening. :( A list of my 79 houseplants (including pot sizes and light requirements) won't help me with my story.
And tomorrow after work I have another driving lesson, after which I'll spend the rest of the day whining about what a failure I am. *is feeling thorougly unhappy*

Whoa, this looks like an interesting place. At first I thought "Why on earth would the Moon be under water?" because I was envisioning the Moon sitting at the bottom of an ocean.

Anyway, hi! It's dark here, and I'm glad tomorrow's Friday. I should get stamps, though, but I don't want to go to the post office.

*throws her pen across the room in frustration* Why is it that the best idea I have for my second novel has to be put on hold? It's going to take a lot of research, and there's no way I can be properly prepped for it by November. But even after I outlined everything and put it in my "December and Beyond" folder, my brain doesn't want to come up with an idea that can actually be done in November!

*takes a deep breath and fetches her pen* Sorry, everyone. But it's been a rough week and that was just one. more. thing. that wasn't going the way I wanted it to. Maybe I should just take the night off?

That's why November is for a first draft. Do what research you can now, and write away in November. You can edit in December and beyond.

Careful with that pen, especially if it's a fountain pen. I'm pretty sure there's a writer superstition that dropping a pen means seven years of bad luck.

Thanks, sushi! (Can I call you sushi?) You know, maybe you're right. Maybe I should write it the best I can in November anyway. The timing just feels right for this story. I'd be switching genres halfway through the month, as my other NaNo novel is a romance and this one's lit fic (neither of which I've written before), but they're both such strong stories, I have to think that my brain can handle it. Certainly something to think about, right?

*apologizes to her pen in hopes of avoiding seven years of bad luck!*

It's freezing, isn't it! Seems to have gone from late summer heat to mid-autumn ground frost in no time at all..

Boy am I glad it's Friday though. And I have the entirety of next week off work!

It finally cooled down here as well. Apparently so far we've had the warmest October since I-forget-when. I didn't really notice it, though, being stuck in the office helping my boss. And now that I'll finally be back outdoors where I belong, it gets cold. Life definitely has a bad sense of humour.
I finally had a not-so-disastrous driving lesson, and I found lots of sweet chestnuts... so I have hope that it will be a good weekend. Maybe there will even be plotting.

I love sweet chestnuts. One of my mates lives near a park full of them and I keep meaning to get some when I go and visit him.

On the plus side, it's nearly the end of my day. Thank christ for Fridays.

The climate where I live doesn't seem to be quite right for them, so there aren't many trees, and the few that there are don't have many chestnuts. I can't remember ever finding three coat pockets full. And it only took an hour. Going back for more tomorrow, even if it means crawling around in a shrubbery.

Still no preparation for NaNo, but at least my plants have been repotted and moved around, so hopefully they'll stop dropping leaves all over the place for a while. *glares at her plant list* You do not seriously mean to tell me I have FIFTY plants (plus six pots of cuttings) in my room?!?!

The weather is so strange here. It's freezing in the morning, yet by the time I go back home in the early afternoon, it's burning up. I don't know what to make of it.

My throat's sore. Woe.

And Yasaibatake, of course you can call me Sushi. Just about everyone does online (and quite a few people who know me offline--that's where this name came from!).

We had that for the last couple of weeks. Going to work in the morning with chattering teeth, in sweater and coat, and home in just a T-shirt.

That's annoying. *offers hot herbal tea* I'm rarely ever ill, but I have a sore throat sooo often...

In other news, I tried to write a bit... did not manage more than 500 words in about an hour. I'm definitely too undisciplined and too easily distracted lately. This had better change quickly!

Aww, thanks for the tea. I'll have to make some more tea later.

Also, I know the feeling about being easily distracted. All that shiny in one place with the writing. Sometimes you just have to shut it all away and just write.
