Not everyone who participates in NaNoWriMo is actually out for the classic 50K-in-30-days. Some people use this special time, and seek community support, for other things...

* for reaching a different number of words in 30 days, be it 25K or 120K
* for continuing to write an existing novel
* for revising an existing novel
* for the extra encouragement/incentive to write daily and in company with others

Does this sound like you? Tell us what your personal November 2009 NaNoWriMo Goal is so we can cheer you on!

Also: I'm not going to tell you that you can't have a purple "Winner!" bar and NaNo2009 certificate for a goal other than the classic 50,000 words one. If you want to use the word count interface for something other than its intended purpose, I totally support that. Tell us what you plan to do so we'll know what to congratulate you for when your word total jumps!

November is about validating and celebrating your daily practice, whatever that may be. Tell us about your daily practice.

While I am aiming for the 50k, as well (more, I hope?), I have another goal, too.

Plot.

Yes, this year, I actually want to manage to have a plot that survives all 50k...or a plot that is a part of the 50k at all. May sound odd, having actually 'won' before without actually having a plot, but I have.

Maybe this year it will be a little better.

Maybe.

My goal this year is to write the novel that I actually want to write, the real novel from my heart.
I've always loved the happy-go-lucky, let it all rip attitude that Nano encourages, but having done it for half a decade, considering myself a writer yet never being published. . . I have come to terms with the fact that, yeah, I'm actually afraid to take my writing seriously, to actually bear my soul in my writing.

So this year I don't have a word count goal. My goal is to actually show up, all of me, and do the writing that is dying to come out without hiding behind fantasy or abstraction or slapstick.

This being my first time doing NaNo, I have two goals:

The first is just to FINISH 50k.

The second is to spit out in some way, shape, or form the entire epic world that's been fermenting in my head for 11 years. I have a feeling this will make 50k a little easier than maybe it should be. XD The hard part will be sticking with it for a whole month.

Good luck to all!

I think the idea of actually having a plot sounds good, but i think this year i'm gonna go for bulk, not sense... so i'm gonna go for 70k! hoping that'll work out, but last year i got to 50k about a week and a half early and then ran into college essays, which drained the rest of my time. BUT NOT THIS YEAR! since i'm already IN college, i think i can pull off a count jump...
anyway, best of luck to everyone! have fun gearing up for November (which is basically in a week HOLY COW)!

I'm a first time Nano-er, and I'm going to be writing on a novel that started a year ago, and have become stalled on. I've never finished a novel length work and I need to get over the hump on this before galloping off on yet another story that may not get finished either.

I'm planning to count the words written only during this period toward the goal of 50K, but honestly I will see any amount at all as a victory! (My life is too busy to guilt over a particular number.) I'm here for the fun and camaraderie.

I'm attempting to re-write my first Nano, E.P.I.C., into a more developed novel. I'm not really worried about word count but I have a feeling that it will be a fair deal longer than the original 100k and I have no delusions about finishing in November, I just want to get it to a good point to work on while I'm gone this spring

This year I plan to finish writing my last year's Nano novel! I'm mostly editing, changing from one POV to two POVs. (don't tell my previous writing professor!) breaking down my long chapters into short fast moving scenes, and filling in all the huge gaping holes in the middle! I would love to see this novel in its entirety! Never mind that I just got a new job! This should make my time even more precious. And my family is used to lots of pizza in November! Go Nanoer's!
