This is the planning page for the October 31st kick-off party and pot-luck lunch.

Google map to the Naperville Municipal Center

Located at 400 S Eagle St, Naperville, IL, the Naperville Municipal Center is one block south of the Nichols Library in downtown Naperville. The 2009 kick-off party will be in the lower level, rooms B&C.

RSVP and planning
Just post below whether you're bringing a friend and what dish, snacks, drink, ice, plates, napkins, etc. you're volunteering to bring. People are not required to bring something but it would be good to have a decent amount of food on hand.

You can also volunteer to bring appropriate games. Unlike previous kick-offs, we are actually hoping to play some games this year :-)

We'll do this real laid back and low key :-). Have I forgotten anything?

I'll summarize here as people reply.

--Tim

P.S. I'm thinking to raffle off the poster at the kick-off rather than at the TGIO; more inspirational this way! There will also be door prizes...

I'm going to bring some cupcakes! (perhaps even write some nifty things on them.. who knows!)

Also, what kind of games are you looking for? I got a closet full of games. Haha. :)

I will bring a main dish (yet to be determined; previous years I have brought things like Texas Chili (but that is an awful lot of work to make because I cube the beef (1/8" cubes) by hand)). Are there any vegetarians attending?

In terms of games, I am bringing NaNoFictionary and Once Upon A Time. Maybe we could also do 1000 Blank White Cards ... or Flux...

I'd put in a vote for Apples to Apples! I wish I had some fun games to bring, but we've only got ordinary games. I'd bring Scrabble, since we're all writers, but only four people can play!

This sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun!

EDIT: Oh, wait! I've got this new game called "Bananagrams" that I bought at Borders. I could bring that!

Any Flux fans? I can bring Monty Python Flux with the castle expansion.

I will bring a salad also.

And my husband as a guest.

Hi, there! Just so you know, I won't be able to be at the kick-off party until a little after 1:00 because of work.

Becky isn't going to be able to make it, as she has to work. I'll probably try to make it in, but I can't promise yet that I'll be able to bring anything.

I've updated the summary in the top post of this thread. I think we need a few more contributed dishes and drinks, if people can volunteer to bring them.

Thanks!

I'll be there for the wrap-up party in December, but not for the kick-off. As long as October ends on Halloween, I'll be working in the costume store instead of attending the Nano kick-off parties.

Hi,
This is Crystal from the Prep Session last Sat. I am so excited to be finally (planning at least) to write a novel. I will be at the pot luck, and I am not sure yet what to bring. Looks like a good crowd. I am thinking pasta or veggies. Sounds like we have lots of sugar already in progress.

I absolutely love Apples to Apples, so that'd be a blast.

Food: I will be happy to contribute more drinks on my end, like some pop/soda as an option and something else. Maybe iced tea, but I'm not 100% sure! I will not have much time to cook as my Hallowe'en plans are all over the place.

I will be attending and bringing my husband, mother and sister (they'll be in town for the weekend). I'm hoping that, time and finances permitting, I'll be able to prepare a plate of my hot wings for the occasion.

I will be bringing a Jewel party tray of simple ham and turkey sandwiches:

and possibly some pot-stickers from Katy's Dumpling House (still have to arrange logistics since it would be good to have them hot and I have to be at the NMC early to help set things up).

I'm going to have to rescind my offer of pumpkin cookies. I can't get my hands on all the ingredients, and as there are several sick people in my house right now, I don't feel comfortable making something to bring for fear of getting other people sick. So I'll just be bringing Apples to Apples and Scattergories.
