I would be interested in getting together a nano group in St. Germain if there were enough people up here... Five would do it. We have a WiFi hotspot here... Just...who lives up here??

I live in the Tomahawk are and won't be even in Wisconsin on November 1. However, I am a Northern Wisconsinite, so you aren't totally alone here in the GREAT NORTHWOODS!

Signing in here from Rhinelander! It's my second year and I'm really looking forward to it. Good luck to all of the Northwoods "elsewheres"!

I'm also in Rhinelander. A first-time NaNo participant but have written a couple of novels before (though much more slowly).

Good luck in the challenge! I really enjoyed it last year. I wish there were more people up here doing it, though. It would be fun to get together and write if we had enough people.
Good Luck!

Hi Everyone,
I'm in Minocqua - back again for a second year. I'd love to at least be buddies with other north woods types - not sure I can take the time away from writing to drive out for a write in (that's the problem with life up here, eh?).
Good luck everyone! Tara

I'll be unemployed by the end of the week (the restaurant I manage is closing for good on Tuesday), so I'd love to do a write in, weather permitting. Let me know if you set something up and I'll do my best to get there. I'm really happy November is finally here. I've been prepping for about two months, so I think I'm really ready to write this time! Good luck to everyone!

If we can get five people who are willing to do a write-in I'm willing to try and get one set up here in Saint Germain. There's a coffee shop (Red Canoe) that has WiFi...would work excellent.
That's horrid about being unemployed... Arg. Bad for you. :D

Really sorry to hear about your job ending. While it might free up time for writing, looking for another job is time-consuming as well. Hang in there and good luck! -- Sylvan Otter from Tomahawk (I know my signin says "Slyvan" -- typo :-)
P.S. You are welcome to be one of my writing buddies if you like. Since this is my first year, I'm not sure what writing buddies do.
What type of work are you looking for and where? I work at the Job Center in Wausau and sometimes hear of openings -- most now are posted on the Internet. Are you familiar with the JobCentersofWisconsin website?

Hi All,
I got lonely and added you all as buddies - at least that way when I look at my buddy page I can see that Northern Wi is chugging along (or flying - way to go Flight Lieutenant)!
Take care,
Tara

Hi Sylvan Otter - nice to see someone so close to home! I live - and am looking for work in Rhinelander, but I'm just as close to Tomahawk. I'm about 4 miles east of Hwy 51 on 8, so I'm kind of in between. I'm not sure if I want to stay in the restaurant business or do something else. I'm leaning toward going back to Nicolet for a Home Technology Integration certificate. I got my MBA while I was out of the area... not much use for it up here, I'm afraid. So I'm thinking of changing my field. My emphasis in my BSM was IT and my emphasis in my MBA was information security. Unfortunately, while I have some experience in both, it's not shown in my work record, so it's been tough to break into the field. I think something like this program at Nicolet would be great - and my other half runs his own heating and cooling business, so it would integrate well with that.
I've used the Job Center Website quite a bit over the years, and it's a great tool. It's nice that everything is posted for anyone to see like that. I think it streamlines the process quite a bit. I'll also be working with Dean Shultz from Job Center up here with some of the things available to dislocated workers. He was nice enough to come and talk to my whole staff about the options available to us. Until then my copy of the Writer's Market is close at hand. :-)
My computer crashed last week, so this is the first time I've really been able to get on and work on things. My new one should be here tomorrow, though, so I'm excited to get clacking away at the keyboard!
Good luck to all of you and may your muse stay hard at work!

Okay, so about rounding up a group for writing...if you think there is a chance you could make it to Saint Germain (Red Canoe Coffee Shop) during the day/afternoon, could you give me dates you'd be available? I'll give this a try...

I can probably be there any time. Doesn't look like we'll be getting any major snowstorms any time soon. LOL. Right now I'm getting caught up from my computer being down for a week, so I can use all the help I can get. I'll be hunting opening weekend, for the most part, but any other days are fine with me. Just let me know.
Keep up the great work everyone!

I've finally got my act together on the Write-In business, and I just hope that I'm not too late in the month already!
It will be held at Red Canoe Coffee Shop in Saint Germain (it's in the grocery store, Camps Supervalue—right at the corner of Highway 70 where it makes the 90 degree turn) from 1:00pm to 3:00pm on Friday the 27th of November.
I'll be there for one hundred percent certain (obviously!) and I think my sister might come too.
On the agenda... Introductions first—what is your novel and why are you writing during NaNoWriMo? Writing (perhaps word-wars). Reading parts of our novels—if you want. That's totally up to you.
So—what should you bring?
a) whatever you use to write with. If it's paper and pencil—that's fine! Laptops are, of course, great. If your novel is with google docs... no problem. There's WiFi.
b) part of your novel to read, if you prefer. I'm going to ask that you choose a part that's clean. For instance...language. (and yes, I'm talking to myself here too). Damn, darn, drat, ass, crap, butt, friggin', flippin', hell, ect... will be allowed. Shit, piss, bullshit, fucking, fuck, Christ, Jesus, Jesus Christ ect... will not. I don't want to step on anyone's toes here. I just want to make that really clear. I want to make sure this is friendly for anyone who comes. Also—no sex. Please, no sex. Don't even have references to Lesbian and Gay sex, PLEASE. I don't know if I can tolerate that. I try to be open and such...but I'm pretty outspoken about homosexuality. If you main character is gay/lesbian—I don't give a damn. But please don't refer to homosexual sex. If you want to hint that your heterosexual characters had sex...okay. I'll go with that. But...still not preferred. Violence wise... If you can keep it PG-13, I'm happy. So. I hope I haven't discouraged you from bringing part of your novel! Because if everyone can bring part of their novel that rocks. That just rocks. We can laugh at each other's mistakes. Each other's bad points. And the good ones. And if you guys ask real nice I might bring small parts of all three of my novels. But you have to ask nice. ;)
c) your pessimism, your optimism, and the sense of fun that got you doing NaNoWriMo in the first place! If you're feeling pessimistic about finishing on time—believe me. There will encouragement. If you're elated because you've already hit 50K—you rock and we'll tell you so.
I don't want to pull out on this last minute unless I have to, but you've got to understand that if not enough people can come then I'll have to. I'm looking at if we just have four people counting me and my sister I'll go with it. More is better. SO. I need a confirmation from all you people. Send me a message as to whether you CAN or CANNOT make it no later than TWO PM ON THURSDAY! I will then announce whether we are go, or not.
And if you're supposed to work—hey! Take the day off. It's the last week-end of NaNo. It's just after Thanksgiving, for crying out loud. You deserve the chance to write and meet up with fellow NaNoers! You deserve to hit 50K by the end of the month!
So—let's see if we can pull off the very first NaNoWriMo Write-In in Saint Germain Wisconsin EVAH! Let the word-counts rule!

Have fun,

At this point, I don't know if I can make a commitment to come. It sounds like fun, but I won't be able to get any writing in today or on Thanksgiving itself. I'm only around 33K. While I know I would enjoy meeting local NaNoers, I think I will get more writing done if I limit my Friday and Saturday activities to writing.
If you don't need to know until Thursday morning, I can give you a definite answer when I see how much writing I get done tomorrow evening.
Thank you for making the effort to organize this possible write-in.
