Calling all Richmond Hill, Markham, Vaughan, King, Aurora, Newmarket, Stouffville, East Gwillimbury, and Georgina, including Thornhill, Unionville, Woodbridge, Kleinburg, Maple, Oak Ridges, King City, Nobleton, Schomberg, Ballantrae, Holland Landing, Queensville, Sharon, Mount Albert, Keswick, Sutton, and Pefferlaw! (*phew* I totally had to look at a map to get that all down.)

This is my first NaNo, and I can't wait to get started! I've only got a theme, no defined plot or character ideas, but I figure I'll let a sleep-deprived imagination take over and try to tie it all together in the end. No one has to read it, right? *grin*

I'm in Oak Ridges, myself. What about you guys? Anyone interested in a Richmond Hill / Aurora / Newmarket gathering?

Howdy.. This will be my first real attempt. I tried a few years ago but gave up pretty quickly. This time I'm in it for the duration. In it for good. It's gonna happen. So yeah, I will definitely need to get out of the house this November.. and do some writing and stuff.

Howdy, this is my first NaNoWri as well. I'm from Stouffville. It's somewhat surprising that York does not have a region and yet Durham does. Even though York by some claims is the fastest growing population center in Ontario.

Hey there! I'm Kara, from Sutton! This isn't my first time doing NaNoWriMo! Unfortunately I never seem to finish but this year I'm very determined to at least reach my personal goal of 30,000! Also, I would definitely be interested in a Newmarket gathering. It would be the easiest one for me to make it to. :)

A Newmarket gathering would be great! Also, if anyone from this area (York) is interested, take a look at the recently started Aurora thread, no one has posted yet, but if a few more do, an Aurora meeting could be an option as well.

Hey Everyone, glad to meet you!

I'm surprised York doesn't have a group of its own, too. It looks like Toronto is having its kick-off party on Tues Oct 27th. How 'bout we have our own kick-off too?

The Starbucks at Bayview / St. John's might be a good spot. It's in Aurora, just a block south of the Newmarket border, on the east side of town (Kara and Xander) and not too far from the 404 (Bakelite, if you're coming from south RH).

Does Thurs Oct 29th work?

The location is good, but Thursday's don't work so well for me. I'm good most other evenings and if it doesn't work out for the kick-off, I'm still in for some writing sessions.

The location sounds good. I'm fairly flexible with my time next week. The 27th works for me.

Cool! Looks like everyone is pretty open, so can we have it Wednesday, the 28th? Xander, you mentioned the 27th, and that works for me too, but maybe not for luckymud, I think?

And since it's not November yet, we're just going to be talking about ourselves and what great writers we are, right? I'll bring copies of the 500 different books I've written, so you guys can critique them. :)

In the first post of this thread there is a subscribe button, which I presume if it's working correctly, should notify you by "Nanomail" if someone posts to the thread.

edit: These notifications are supposed to come to your regular email address, but apparently they are not working consistently. Works sometimes, not other times.

Wow, thanks! I've hit 'subscribe' now, so hopefully it'll work as intended. I'll still come by to make sure I'm not missing anything.

I've freed up the 27th! Let's par-tay!

Helloooooo everyone ... I'm in Newmarket and providing my husband is home in good time from work to look after our baby then I can do the 27th. :) This is my first NaNoWriMo and I'm blissfully excited about it!

The 27th through 29th is good for me; a final consensus pending. What time is this being held?

This sounds like it will be fun. I'll bring along my rough outlines and some other related material.

Ooh, not at all. I buddied you! In fact, I buddied everyone *blush* Shoot, was that too forward? I promise to be the most unprepared of the bunch.

I'm going to be in Orangeville that day but I should be back by 6:30pm. Would 7pm be a realistic after-dinner coffee-and-Nano time? 7:30? 11?

Is it the Starbucks at 129 Pedersen Road, Aurora?

That's the one! According to Google Maps, it's just a patch of dirt and grass but don't worry - it's there in a little plaza along with a Crabby Joe's and a National Bank, a Pizza Nova, a convenience store, and a store that sells stuff for your pet dog. I was there this morning making sure they're open past 7. :-)

There are no traffic lights at Pederson, so if you're coming from the South on Bayview then make sure you're in the left turn lane after you pass Hollandview/Spring Farm and look for the National Bank. If you're coming from the North, it's the 2nd street/driveway past St John's. It's easy to miss when coming from the North, so go slow and carry a map, or go one street west to Eart Stewart Dr and go south from there.

Does anyone happen to know what YRT bus (or buses) to take to get to there from Newmarket Go bus terminal? I can't seem to figure it out. >.<

Ok. 7:00. Looking forward to it. I am planning to do some planning this weekend. Maybe I'll have an idea by then.

Sorry.. I don't know anything about buses.

I went to Google Maps and found a bus that will take you down from the terminal on Yonge, south to Mulock. I couldn't dig up the available times. From there you'll have to hoof it to Pedersen. The walk is just over 2km. Keep looking though, it's very possible there is something overlooked.

Is anyone passing through there? If so, could just be easier to carpool?

EDIT: Hopefully this helps: http://tripplanner.yrt.ca/hiwire

It won't display the applicable info, so you'll have to type in the time of day, your departure point, and your arrival point being "129 Pedersen Drive." From there it should bring up some handy schedules that will hopefully be of use.

Are you taking the Sutton Go bus down? If so, you don't have to go all the way to the Newmarket bus terminal. Get off at Davis and Bayview, and switch to the #54 YRT going southbound. This bus goes down Main St at first but rejoins Bayview and will take you straight past Pederson. I believe it's the 2nd stop after St. John's, but you might want to ask the bus driver to point it out for you.

Here is the YRT Route Map: http://www.yorkregiontransit.com/maps/maps/YRT-Viva_system_map_current.j... The Sutton Go bus is route 69 (no joke) and the connection is route 54.

I am trying to think of other coffee shops in the area that might be easier for everyone to find in the dark. There is a Starbucks at Upper Canada Mall, a short walk from the Newmarket bus terminal, which could be an option. I don't know what the seating is like there. Do you guys?
