I'm engaged, in college, and MLing. In other words, I am totally insane and sure to die from going nuts. :-)
Just kidding.
In all seriousness, though, anyone else planning a wedding and writing a novel?

I'm engaged yes...but not yet planning the wedding. We're still a ways off marriage, mainly because we can't afford one yet...:P...but we do happily wear each other's rings.

Yep, I'm engaged too. Luckily we've put the wedding plans on hold since my son was born. I don't think I could handle NaNo, planning my son's 1st birthday AND shopping for wedding dresses. lol

I'm engaged! We got engaged in May, and are getting married next September, so I have a nice long time to plan (because I'm also working and going to school). So far, we actually have a fair amount done already; if we can get a caterer booked by the end of October, I can let a lot slide through November to make room for NaNo.

I'm engaged! I mean, I still call him my boyfriend because its hard for me to remember to say "fiance" or whatever. Plus, this is kinda a long engagement of sorts -- we're not sure when we're going to tie the knot -- it could be next week, it could be next year. We don't have a date yet mainly because: 1. We can't afford it, 2. We're in between jobs, 3. Our daughter is our priority right now, and 4. We're in no rush. Still, he asked me to marry him (minus the ring, which also can't be afforded right now) and I said yes -- so we're loosely planning some of the things that don't need a definite date yet -- like guest list, and other ideas.

Ohmigawd, yes.
My boyf-- fiancee (weird word!) asked me to marry him at the end of August. One of the first things I said to him was, quote, "we can't get married in November. Ever. Also, do not ask me to THINK about the wedding in November. Ever." So, we've settled on September of 2010, and failing that, April of 2011.
Question, for those of you ladies who are looking-- do they make ANY wedding dresses that are both pretty and zombie-uprising practical? I looooooove the mermaid silhouette, but I can't see for the life of me HOW I would be able to run (or move freely at all) in one.

I'm not engaged yet, but do have a ring/band made and waiting in the wings. All my boyfriend will tell me is that he isn't proposing in November (smart boy!) and will propose before April.
VERY excited. :D Nothing like getting to be with my best friend for life.

Hehe. So you know more or less when the question will be asked? My partner took me by surprise with it. I was going to wait and then ask him myself...but he jumped the gun on me one night and asked. It was back in July last year.
That's the story of our lives so far: "I was going to wait, but then he went ahead and asked". It was the same when we first got together. I was going to wait before i told him how I felt about him and then one day he just gave me a bunch of roses and told me he loved me. Awww! He's such a sweetheart. :D

I'm not engaged...but I'm pregnant so that's kinda the same? haha. No seriously my boyfriend and I have been dating almost 4 years and talking about getting married for at least the past year, the timing was just never right. I got pregnant in May, right after we had moved back to our hometown to save up for a house and wedding, and now we're kind of in a rush! Once things get a little better financially we will definitely be getting married. Right now we are putting it off because we aren't sure if i would lose my medical if we married. I mentioned engagement to him a few days ago and he said "Oh i thought now that you're pregnant we were just going to get married and not worry about getting engaged." uh huh. Well i let him know that I definitely want a ring! LOL. Nothing expensive, we have diapers to buy, but *something* would be nice! So, I'm really hoping he will be proposing either on my birthday(which is November 30th) or for Christmas. Sometime before the baby is born would be good...and she will be coming in January! Hoping to get married before our daughter can walk, lol. That's my goal!
I know we could wait longer to marry but we were planning on getting married next year anyway. Just now instead of having a nice wedding and reception we are planning a courthouse wedding and small get-together after. I don't care much about the wedding part, I'm just super exicted about being his wife. :)

My boyfriend DID propose to me during November, haha! And he still made me do my wordcount for the night, what a sweetheart, right? So I'll have been engaged for a year come November 13th, but we're not planning either due to being unemployed and totally broke. So in the mean time I'm job hunting, writing, and looking up prices for things for whenever we do happen to set a date.

I'm engaged but we can't plan on what we're doing next week, let alone the future. We had a date set for the 1st of this month but money was too tight. We've decided, instead, that we're not setting a date, rather we're setting a weight. Once I lose a few pounds (I'm allergic to exercise so it's going to have to come off naturally), then we can worry about getting hitched. We have decided on a science fiction themed wedding, however, so I do know that Doctor Who style red chucks will fit in there somewhere.

I'm engaged, in final year of uni (so also got to write a 12,000 word dissertation this term!), and planning a huge Europe trip for next summer - so should be a good year! I'm actually using it all as motivation, because I want to be able to say I did all of that, AND wrote a whole novel, in a single year :-D
Luckily I'm not getting married til next summer, so not much needs to be planned during November. Thought it will make for very good procrastination! Just cos I'm curious, is anyone using being engaged/weddings somehow in their novel?

Hi!
Congrats to all! I've been engaged since last June, but we're not getting married until I finish my PhD, so probably the summer of 2011. I am working very hard not to plan any of my wedding right now. I don't want to spend two years going crazy over wedding planning. My mother, on the other hand, is psyched to have a wedding to plan, and brings it up every time we talk. We may need to put a time limit on conversations with my mother for November.
Also Darksong Shadowhart, I totally agree that most wedding dresses seemed designed to prevent the bride from running away if needed. If there's a fire (or a zombie attack), I want to be able to get out there, stat. When I said this to my fiance, he was pretty horrified - "There's going to be a fire at our wedding?"

The beginning of NaNo also marks the end of the first year of my engagement... which means I got engaged on Halloween last year. I bet you all can imagine that that, uh, slightly affected my plan to actually do NaNo last year :)
I don't think planning the wedding is going to be the thing that causes all the trouble for me this year. I think the thing that causes all the trouble will be everything that's already preventing me from planning the wedding (grad school and my job and everything else...)
I do have my dress already. It's relatively zombie-attack-friendly, all things considered. ;)

I'm sort of unofficially engaged to my boyfriend. No ring yet, mostly to keep my mother from freaking out, but he's proposed to me and I said yes. :) I consider him to be my fiance, and with each other, we affectionately call each other "Husband" and "Wife." It's a little silly I guess, but we're just that cheesy. Hahaha. Still, the wedding is a ways off yet. We've decided to get through college first, and then after graduation talk about a wedding.

A lot of your comments sound like the ones I was going to make in this thread.
I'm engaged, have been since April 2008 - and we had planned on getting married on 10-10-09; but there were some financial problems along the way there, so we've put it off until all of it can be afforded at once. Which stinks, but I know that it means I'll get my dream wedding. Maybe next year I'll be coming home from my honeymoon and getting ready for nano?

I am engaged as well, and we are not actually hardcore into the planning right now---really, it's because it will not be a fancy, complicated affair. Super-small ceremony, super-huge party at a bar afterwards. He thinks I'm crazy for attempting to do this with all I have going on right now, but he has promised to read what I've written when the story is finished.

For anything not-cookie-cutter wedding related go to offbeatbride.com I stumbled across this site a few months ago, and fell in LOVE. The off-beatness" ranges from small backyard weddings that are eco-friendly to zombie brides and grooms to Wedding ceremonies performed as a musical:) It's sooo cool!
Ok, I'm gonna stop geeking out now. *blush* Anyway, I'm sure you could find some vendors there who make zombie-attack friendly dresses:)

I'm engaged, but won't be for much longer XD - The wedding is December 24th, thankfully it's just a small thing, so there's relatively little planning going on - that would definitely put a cramp in my NaNo.
The middle of the second week of NaNo is also our anniversary of getting engaged and the first year he took me to a hotel for the night - didn't get much written then! We're not doing anything big this year, what with the wedding coming up. Last year he joined in, but I'm not sure if he will this year. We'll see. :D

Hey Caitak, I'm in the same stage! We got engaged in March and we'll be married on December 19th! :) So I'm almost finished planning and I'll graduate a week before my wedding, so I've got full-time school and part-time work in the mix as well.
