Any other students of Buddhism here, or anyone else trying to incorporate Buddhism into their story this year? I'm writing a YA fantasy, but it will have buddhist undertones/ themes.
I've been meditating and studying mahayana buddhism for nearly two years now, so I'm still quite new to it all. I'm also hoping to finish it in 26 days as I've committed to a weekend retreat at the end of the month. Hopefully all this practise of calm and concentration will help me to finish this year!

I'm what you might call an eclectic Buddhist; I don't adhere strictly to any one type of Buddhism but use elements of several, particularly Theravada and Tibetan. I used to help run meditation retreats back in the '90s.

Anyhoo, I'm writing a mystery novel this year, and I don't know yet if Buddhism will play a role in it or not.

I'm writing a middle-grade fantasy novel. I won't put Buddhism into it on purpose, but i know Buddist elements will end up in. I took a Concepts of Buddhism in college and have been fascinated with it ever since.

I think I may incorporate a little bit of Buddhism through a supporting character, but I'm not too sure. I certainly know that my own writing this November will be side-by-side my own "searching for religion". So maybe Buddhism will pop up, depending on what I'm curious about.

I am taking a kuan yin workshop however I haven't decided on whether I'll be incorporating that into my book yet or not.

Hi sacredcrayon!
My novel will incorporate aspects of Buddhism...in fact I hope to shed some light on quite a few religions.

Even though my novel idea for this year has a lot to do with Roman Catholicism and voodoo, I do plan on incorporating Buddhist ideas in some way, particularly with regards to meditation and somewhat with the whole concept of acheving peace in this world. It should be a pretty interesting month.

Me too. I mean, I'm incorporating some Buddhism into my historical romance. Looking forward to following your progress, and to all who know more about it than me (probably everyone on this thread), I'd love to have help with some of the more esoteric details, or maybe just some good BASIC books about Tibetan and Chinese Buddhism, monks, wushu, etc. My mfc is an English girl who grows up in a monastery around the time of the Opium War and then is transplanted back to England.

While Buddhism isn't going to be central in my story, I will likely have some Buddhist influences/references/scenes. A lot of my story will take place in China, and I will be incorporating more Daoism.

Yay, another Daoism writer! I'm glad you spell it with a D, too, I think it looks much nicer that way. Daoism's always been central to my writing, and while I'm absolutely no expert on the philosophy, I like to imagine I work with the very core of the concepts. :)

Hey! I'm so glad you posted this because my novel will be dealing directly with Buddhism & psychology as its central topics. It will be from a more secular perspective though, presented through the viewpoint of someone just learning about Buddhism, and really seeking to deconstruct some key concepts, such as our sense of Self.

This is my first time doing NaNo, and I'd love to have some Buddhist writing buddies! I wish I would have brainstromed more before hand; as I'm still plotting out details tonight. Feel free to add me, or AIM me. My screen name is mn0pq; third character is a zero.

Good luck all!

Question about Buddhism - i thought this would be the best place to ask. Now the little i know about Buddhism is that the founder Buddha read about all the other religions of his time and he didn't agree with any of them on the whole so founded his own. Now is that wisdom of learning about all the religions, a practice among modern buddhists or was it just buddha who did that.

What would you say is the core philosophy of Buddhism?

Hurray! I'm not alone mentioning Buddhism in my novel. My main character is not a hard-core practitioner but has decided to think about death every day for a month and see what progress she can make in her life. I don't know where this will end up but it's fun to write.

My novel will be including a mix of buddhist/tao/dharmic philosophies, usually in relation to martial arts. At least thats where the connection will come from (=
