Since my thread about having morning Surrey write-ins doesn't seem to be working out, I thought I'd throw out a new crazy plan!
I will host write-ins Wednesday evenings. But here's the catch, the location is going to "float." The first Wednesday will be at Central City Blendz in Surrey, but then it's up to you guys to pick the other locations. This will be a treat for me too, since I'll get to see different places around the lower mainland that I might not otherwise get to.
- My only requirement is that it be transit accessible as I can't guarantee access to a car.
- I work until 5 in Surrey, so the starting time will depend on how far you are going to make me travel.
- Post a specific location. Locations that only list a city will be disregarded.
- If there are more than 3 locations posted, I'll figure out a method of choosing between them. Until then, feel free to try to sell everyone on your location. Flattering your ML couldn't hurt either ;)

An awesome idea, I'll try to make it to at least one of them. As I have a crazy schedule as it is, I won't suggest something because I might not show up.

I suggest an independent coffee shop called The Breezeway in South Surrey. It's right by White Rock Center, which has buses coming in from a multitude of places.
It's on 152nd Street at 17th Ave.
I'm pretty sure they close at 5pm, but they will stay open if requested for groups such as language groups or writing groups and I could talk to them about it once we have a specific date. For this we'd have to have a certain number of people coming.

I support this location!
152nd and 16th is about a 30-40 minute bus ride from Surrey Central Station via the 321, the 351 from Bridgeport Station, and the 375 from Guildford, so there's no transit-based excuses. ( :

How about somewhere around Strawberry Hill [120th street & 72nd ave.]? There's Chapters, Starbucks, Tim Hortons, Surrey Public Library... and it's right by the Newton Exchange.

Ok, I stickied this thread so it doesn't get lost. So far, we've got three locations suggested and there's still room for one more. If we only get three then we'll probably pick a location to be repeated for the 4th week.

I love the Blenz @ Central idea, and if I don't have a late shift that day, I'll be there!
May I suggest the Timmy's on 188th & Fraser? We could also always migrate across the parking lot to the Esquires, but I'm not sure how late that's open. The Timmy's is 24-hours, and the evening & night staff is excellent!

Ok, I've updated with a slightly less tentative schedule for the floating write-ins. I love the fact that all the suggestions we got were on the south side of the Fraser. More later, when I'm not already late for leaving work.

I absolutely agree with the suggestion of Breezeway! Also, my friend works there and I can talk to her about making time for us. It's pretty much at the bus stop for a ton of busses.

November 25th - Tim Horton's Fraser Hwy & 188th
It's right on the 502 bus route.
Coming from Surrey Central: write or snooze your way all the way through Fleetwood. When you start coming out of that low, no-man's land farming area (you'll know what I mean when you see it) start looking out the window. About 1-2 minutes back into town once you're up the hill, on the right hand side, there's a bus stop right before the Timmy's, and another one across the intersection if you miss it. You'll see a new TD Trust going in right before it, and it's in the same parking lot as a PriceSmart Foods. Across the street is Extra Foods and an Irish pub called Dublin Crossing.
Coming from Langley: it's at the top of the hill past the mall (Willowbrook). Once you see the Tapa Bar place, you'll be getting off just after the next big intersection, right by the above mentioned Dublin Crossing pub, and then cross the street to the PriceSmart parking lot.

Ok so it looks like the Breezeway will be closed that evening along with Blenz. However, we have other options nearby . . .
These are all within about 5 minutes of the bus stops by the Breezeway. I'm pretty flexible on which location we end up at, but I know there are several more familiar with the area than I am. So, if there's one that you guys would prefer, let me know!

Ok, for the write-in this Wednesday we'll be meeting on the border of Surrey/Delta at Starbucks. I've confirmed that they will be open until 9:30 and I can get there by about 4 o'clock so whoever can make it is free to join me (though I probably won't be there until closing time).
Here is some of the address and bus information:
Strawberry Hill Starbucks - 7221 120th Street (72nd Avenue and 120th Street/Scott Road). 4pm - I'll probably be staying until 6:30 or 7:00, but people are welcome to come and go as their time and schedules allow. It is Remembrance Day so keep this in mind when checking transit schedules.
Accessible by the following bus routes:
I think there are another couple of possible routes from Scott Road station and one or two bus options leaving from Surrey Central skytrain, but those coming from North of the Fraser River are probably best served by the 340 since it runs a little more frequently.

Indeed there are! Looks like the 316 Scottsdale from Surrey Central also hits the area, but that's only once every hour on the 11th... :-/

I don't know if the Tim Hortons has power outlets near their sitting places. The Starbucks has a couple tables near the window, but it isn't as big as the one we were in last week. Writing in the White Spot might be.... awkward.
Another option is the Semiahmoo branch Surrey Public Library. It's open until 9pm Mondays through Fridays and is on 152 and 18th. We could probably go and take over a corner or something.

I like the Semiahmoo Library as an option - there is a special room for laptop users, but alas, no coffee.

Ok, the library it is! I probably won't be able to get down there until 6 o'clock, because I'll want to grab a quick bite of dinner before going to the library. When I've checked bus times more carefully, I'll give you an update on more precise times.

It seems I've jumped in on this discussion a little late but the Semiahmoo Library is a wonderful choice. I won't be able to get there until 7:15 or so, unfortunately, but I'll try to bring some friends.
