50,000 words is a lot. But, as NaNo veterans know, that breaks down into 1,667 words per day. But how much is that?
Just like any other activity, it's always wise to do a few warm-up exercises. So, here's the challenge (inspired by choppy from Lethbridge): Write 1,667 words. Nothing connected to your novel, just a quick little ramble. Not only is this a nice introduction to NaNoWriMo, it'll help you get an idea of how long it might take you to hit your daily quota.

So... how'd it go?

It took me about 30 minutes to right about 400 words. Then I ended up buried under a sleeping baby. :/
Hopefully this won't be indicative of my daily progress during the real deal. I'd like to not have to stay up late every night.

Well, I managed about 800 in an hour. That means I should plan for about 2 - 2.5 hours per day when you factor in planning and procrastination. That's about on par with previous years - manageble, but a committment.
Definately no speed demon here.

Well I ran out of steam on what I chose to write about after 1,035 words. 33 minutes had elapsed. So not too bad I think. Much better than I expected.

The topic: "Burrito shower."
The result: 1,678 words in 1 hour and 12 minutes. Honestly, that's a lot faster than I was last year. Woo!
I guess there's something about shoveling burritos off a moving truck onto a wedding party that just calls to my muse. : )

I tried this during my spare the other day, so I had very limited time frame. I managed to rattle off 500 words about guitarist zombies in about 13 minutes. That would be my daily amount on my personal reduced daily goal. Man that doesn't seem like much. If I didn't procrastinate I wouldn't have such a pitiful NaNo history. Tomorrow, perhaps, I shall try to see how long it takes me for a full 1,667 words.

Today I was at work and decided to time myself on writing a non-fiction article about writing. More specifically, about discovering a plot for your story. It spanned 1,227 words and took me just a titch under 45min to write. It needs some editing, but all-in-all not a bad challenge.

Just did a test: see how fast I could write 1167 words of pointless, meandering crap.
Managed 1687 in 29 min. :D
I feel much more confident now. ^^

Managed about 1700 in 2 hours. And my wrists are giving me all kinds of heck. Stupid small desk...
Anyways, it's not too bad, but not my personal best. I haven't typed in a while though, either.
I'm rusty! D8
