In order to remove ourselves from the distractions of home life -- roommates, spouses, children, pets, dirty dishes, dirty litter boxes, television, bills, lawn, neighbors, clutter, telephone, doorbell -- it is sometimes necessary to find a haven, some nearby comfortable establishment, usually with a caffeine and sugary-treat supply, that is open late into the evening for after-work, after-dinner and after hours writing.

If you do leave the house for Prime Time weeknight writing, where do you go?

I'm especially interested in late-night haunts in the Delaware County / Media area, Rittenhouse Sq and Old City. However, I encourage all Philly-regions to chime-in here.

Borders in the Springfield Square Shopping Center in Springfield is open until 10pm weeknights / 11pm Fri & Sat.

I'd be in for Borders and Panera as well! Panera isn't open quite as late as Borders but it probably has better coffee. ;)

What a coincidence! The Springfield Borders is one of my favorite haunts as well! And not too far from my digs in West Philly via Baltimore Ave/Pike/Road/Whatever the heck it is in that area. A delightful neighborhood to be in for writing!

I'll probably end up at the Barnes in Valley Forge and/or the Barnes in North Wales. Possibly a Panera bread (I just found one right by me in West Norriton!). I'll try to make some write-ins, as well.

The start of Nano (midnight Nov 1st), I'll be at a Halloween gathering, so I'll probably start writing when I get home, knowing I'll be too wired up to go right to sleep. And since November 1st is a Sunday, I'll most likely hit Barnes during the day at least to get started!

Hi,

I can go for this once or twice a week. I could use the the caffeine. Borders is only 5 minutes from me.

Since most of the places around where I live close around 8, it's hard to find a good spot, I do like the BaN around Rittenhouse Sq.

sort of near rittenhouse square (21st and chestnut), there's a nice coffee shop called Caffeination, which I enjoy a lot. They've got a "bar" dedicated to laptop users ;)

For really, really, REALLY late night haunts... there's always the option of your local 24-hour diner (near me there is a Denny's and a Tom Jones that are both 24-hr). Not sure what the laptop/plug situation would be (aka probably non-existent), but if you had pen/paper and/or good battery life, it's definitely a non-expensive alternate to sitting at home (in a warm, comfortable bed!).

Well, my favorite late night haunt will be my bedroom, hunched over my computer keyboard with KYW-1060 on in the background to provide the ever soothing sound of the tickertape machine that I love so much. HA!

Oh, yes indeed! KYW has been a partner in my writing attempts for years. Now I'll have that ever familiar tickertape machine aiding me in my first NaNoWriMo! Should be fun!

The panera off of 363 there? That's a nice one too.

I like the B&N at Neshaminy Mall--new, huge, good coffee (albeit pricey).

That's my favorite haunt too. I'll be there at some point tomorrow, stalking the bookcases. Maybe getting a little writing in before I head home, or stalk the pet store down the hallway.
