There's been a lot of discussion about the date/time of the kick-off party this year. The party is going to be a little earlier in the day, this year, in the hopes that parents can nab an hour or two of adult time in the early afternoon.

Where:
     Woody's Diner      [MAP]      [WEBSITE]
     208 W. 5th St
     Royal Oak, MI 48067

When: Saturday, October 31st, noon-2pm

Details: Woody's opens at noon, so if you get there early, don't worry. And it is Royal Oak, so bring some quarters for the meter if you're parking.

Age Limit: All ages.

Come join us as we embark on this year's crazy adventure! We'll be on the second floor, commandeering a few large tables. All of NaNoWriMotown is invited! Come meet your fellow novelists, get a goodie bag, and get inspired for November!

Driving/Parking Tips:

From I-75, exit at 12 Mile Rd. From I-696, exit Woodward Ave/M-1, then follow signs to Main St.

Fifth St (where Woody's is located) does not cross the railroad tracks, so turn off Main at Sixth or Seventh, just before/after the tracks, then find a place to park. A map of downtown parking is here. Not shown on the map, there is a new parking lot at Main and Seventh, and Seventh is one-way westbound.

Sounds great, you guys! I'm looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones.

Here's a question for the masses: Is anyone else thinking of dressing up for the kick-off party? It will be Halloween, after all...

I got it written down in my date book. You'll reconize me right away -- I'm the one coming in dressed like an struggling author! (HA! Cheap joke, I know!) Seriously though, I probably will not be in costume, unless I throw my rainbow Pride love beads around my neck and wear a lepard print sweater...

Do it, By-George-its-Allwyn!

Thanks, Tiff and Owen. I will go for it! I came up with a possible seed of an idea for my NaNo, so things are looking up. Can't wait to see everyone!

Sweet! Your guys' kickoff e-mail was fantastic! I hope to crash your party, as long as you don't mind a friendly neighbor ML being there. ;)

I might be there - if I can convince the Boy that he does, in fact, want to come out from Farmington Hills with me to see this! If not, I won't have a ride, so it'll be a no-go. :(

Even though I'm incredibly nervous, I for sure want to be there! I've participated in NaNo for... this will be my fifth year by myself and I will find the company inspiring. It really depends on my ride situation but if I can be there I for sure will! :D

What is the turnout usually like?

Just out of curiosity - may I bring a companion? (aka - my chief editor and biggest fan!)

I will definitely be there. I think I've managed to convince my boyfriend he wants to come with me. He seems to think a group of Nanowrimos might be a tad bit scary. Can't imagine why... I don't know if we'll be in costume or not.

I might go. If I did it'd present some problems: 1. I'd be going with my Aunt. I don't think she quite gets what I'm doing.
2. She lives in Livonia, so it might be a bit of a hike.
3. I'm 13, it'd be awkward in general.

No pressure, of course, but most of those aren't so bad.

1. No better place to explain it, really! There are a bunch of us and we're all doing it -- she'll understand soon enough. Also, if she can meet some of us, it ups your chances that she'll be okay letting you attend a write-in.
2. That one, I can't really offer you advice on...
3. Nothing awkward about it. So you're on the younger end of the scale. I'm only 21 and I'm a co-ML! The first year I jumped into the craziness, I was 16.

Just think about it... I swear, we're the mostly harmless sort of crazy.

Sorry guys, the party's gonna be a no-go this year. :( I don't have a ride to make it out from Farmington Hills. Good luck to everyone, though, and have fun! xD

Wow, I was so excited to figure out that I actually KNEW where the kick-off party was. My parent's love Woody's!

I'll be there about one or two hours late... play practice.

But I can't wait! NaNoWriMo AND Halloween? Can that Saturday get any better?

I would like to try to make it this year. Haven't made it to a kick-off party yet. *Sigh.* I don't think I'll be in costume, though.

Okay. My Aunt agreed to take me to Royal Oak for the thing. Now I just have to deal with the awkwardness.

Ooh ooh ooh! Goodie bags??!

If I can escape from cleaning my gutters, I'll be there. I'm the one with the green hair and the gangly boyfriend who mutters to herself a lot.
