Hi! My name's Damien and I'm 20 years old. I live in Southern Arkansas- I'm about an hour and 30 minutes away from Little Rock. Just wondering if any one else is in the same area... I see a lot of people from the Northwest and Central Arkansas but not many from Southern Arkansas.

Specifically I live in Drew County, just to give a more exact location of where I'm from. It's in the Southeastern part of Arkansas.

Hi - I'm from Batesville (Independence County), so more Northeast for me. Maybe we could get a gathering in Little Rock, since it's pretty much central, but I'm guessing most of the Arkansas peeps are going to be pretty spread out.
My name's Courtney, by the way, and I'm 22. What are you writing about? Do you have a plan yet? This is my first time, so I'd really like to get in touch with some local (kinda, anyway) NaNos.

I agree, not too many Southern Arkansas peeps on here. My name is Brian and I am 36, I hail from Texarkana myself. This is my first year doing this and will be working on my Fantasy Novel, or at least a short story based in my novels world.
Good luck with your story, and see ya around the site.

Hi Courtney. :D I wonder how many people we could get together for some kind of meet-up in Little Rock? That would probably be fun, although I'm not extremely familiar with Little Rock (I know where a few big streets are).
I'm writing a House, M.D. fanfic. I normally write original fiction but decided to attempt a fanfic this year. Pretty nerdy, huh? And I have sort of a plan. I've participated three years and haven't won yet so I finally figured out what works and doesn't. I've outlined some of my chapters already but that's about it. I'm going to be participating in writing sprints- those really help! You basically have to write for 10-15 minutes straight, take a break, write, take a break, write. You can get a lot done doing this for an hour.
Good luck to you!

Oh yeah, I also recommend the book "No Plot? No Problem". It has a lot of helpful tips in it!
And I forgot to ask- what are you writing?
And Hi Brian, too. :D

It looks like places like Little Rock, Conway, and the Fayetteville/Springdale area have enough people to set up weekly meetings, which is pretty nifty if you can get there. It would be pretty fun to see if we could get an all-Arkansas TGIO party or something, though, for the rest of us who are farther away and have jobs :-)
C'mon, you've committed to writing a novel in a month, and you're worrying that your topic is nerdy? Isn't a little late to be concerned with that? ;-)
I'm planning on writing a YA fantasy; I've been doing some outlining but I've never worked on anything like this before so I'm not really sure what I'll need once I get started. Possibly I will need to break the backspace button off my keyboard, since I'm not sure how successful I'll be at tying up my inner editor and putting it in a closet.
So what have you written in past years?

Heya! I'm in Prescott, AR. This is my first nanwrimo. I've decided to use this as a chance to kickstart a novel I started about 15 years ago. I have actually written more for the novel in the past four days than I did when I started it all those years ago working on my Masters! LOL.
I have a HARD time keeping my fingers away from the backspace key! I keep wanting to edit, and cut and paste, and generally move things around. AUGH! But, because I know I "can't" it forces me to keep writing forward without getting bogged down on arrangement right now.
For me, the key is making the time to write. I just force myself to write, even when I don't want to. I'll even take my laptop to bed and write until I feel like I am going to fall asleep. It drives my wife a little crazy, but I'm hoping it'll pay off in the long run (published novel, maybe!?).
Anyone try Lulu.com for self-publishing? I love it, though I only have one collection of short stories so far: http://stores.lulu.com/davidinark/
TTYL and happy writing to y'all!

Yes, I love lulu. I plan on publishing this novel there when we're done. My son and I are writing the 5th installment of The 3 Ninjas franchise. Extremely cheesy, I know, but I don't have to make up characters at all and he just loves those movies so it's alot of fun to write. Plus, I've literally seen those movies about 100 times so I almost feel like I'm cheating. I have a formula to follow already.
On lulu, I have one book of poetry and my son has a few books of his own. http://stores.lulu.com/blueprintbaby
I'm a bit behind and I have a weekend away, so no more distractions! Happy writing!

I live in South Eastern Arkansas, approximately 60 miles or so from Little Rock.
This is my first NaNoWriMo as well. I'm constantly working behind schedule due to having to work all day, but I'm having fun. Hopefully I'll be able to use the weekends and my upcoming Thanksgiving break to get back on track.

I live in Warren, about 100 miles from Little Rock. Yesterday I went to Maumelle for a one-day writers' conference there. This is my first NaNoWriMo. We used to have a writers' group in Monticello. It disbanded. Now I go to the one in El Dorado which meets monthly.
I am up to 12,000 words. I could use some technical help from a policeman and a psychologist but I think I am just going to have to wing it. My novel is about a person with amnesia who someplace later in the book is going to be accused of murder.
