I'm on twitter a lot and it's proving to be quite a good tool for keeping in contact with other nanowrimo participants - I'm using the #nanolondon tag for my Nano tweets. It might be useful for organising other write-ins or events, esp since it's quite a bit quicker than facebook!

I'm on twitter. :) I'm very chatty and have no true sense of decency, plus I'm a student so many humorous complaints about uni work... but if you don't mind all that, I'm @carbon_kiwi! And I'm sure during November it'll have a lot of NaNo talk.

Say you're posting about Nano - If you use the hashtag #nanowrimo, you can then click on it and see who else has been tweeting about Nano! Boldly predicting it'll be a trending topic come the 1st :D
I also tend to use #nanowrimolondon or #nanolondon for reasons of region love!
For tweets in general though, I've actually not been bothering with hashtags as a hash key doesn't seem to exist on my Mac keyboard. Boo-urns.

Hey mate!
Really nice to meet you the other night, still impressed by your vampire teeth - I imagine you'll be putting them to good use tonight?
Hashtags are simply a way of searching for tweets. When people post their tweets if they include a hashtag at the end (eg #nanolondon or #nanowrimo) then when you do a search for #nanolondon you'll see all the tweets that have included the hashtag.
It's a way of having a big conversation about the same subject with probably more people than you actually follow, as all entries that include the hashtag appear in the search. Does that make any sense?
If you go to twitter and do a search on #nanolondon you'll see plenty of entries from people talking about Nanowrimo in London - including myself.
Hope the novel goes well.
Cheers

Hi,
To get the hash symbol on the Mac you need to hold down the 'Alt' key (I think it's also called the Option key) and press the number 3.
