I'm guessing people here are pretty big readers.:D Just curious where you get your books from. Do you buy them from the mall bookstores (Powerbooks, Fully Booked, National, etc.)? Do you get them from second-hand stores or places that's not commonly known? Me, I usually look for books from those second-hand stores (like Booksale!) since they actually have more of those that I'm hunting for, and they're loads cheaper. What about you?:D

I read eBooks, and if I like them enough, I go to a bookstore (Fully Booked, Powerbooks, National Book Store, in order of preference) and buy them. If I kinda like them, I pick them up if I see them in used bookstores (I usually assign a mental price tag for degrees of liking). Otherwise, I just stick with eBooks.
When I was younger it was all regular bookstores and second-hand bookstores. But I've learned restraint in my old age. :P

I mostly go to the secondhand bookstores in U.P. Sure booksale is cheaper but it's more convenient there...plus the vendors are interesting characters and if you know them well enough, they can be nice and hold books for you till you have money and stuff like that...and they know what the students like. Booksale is nice but I usually have to dig through a ton of titles I'm not interested in before I find one or two books I want to buy.

I used to buy all my books from Fully Booked, National Bookstore and Powerbooks, but ever since this year, I started appreciating eBooks. I usually rely on my friend to get eBooks for me, though. :D
Oh, and I used to order online through BookSale (www.booksale.com.ph) and they were pretty reliable then. I'm not too fond of digging through Booksale because the dust aggravates my allergies. I usually go to BookSale to look for the old Animorphs books that I didn't get to buy. ^^;
Although...ever since the flood, I haven't bought any new books. No more impulse buys, Tina, it only adds to the clutter.

National Bookstore and Booksale usually for me. Sometimes it only takes patience and high tolerance for dust [and people] to dig through bajillions of titles in Booksale [this is how I end up finding those ancient Agatha Christie books that I buy for a friend--unless I am interested in the premise]. But if I can't find the titles I'm looking for, off to Powerbooks and Fully Booked I go. Which happens after every few years or so @.@

National, Fully Booked (and Bibliarch), PowerBooks, BookSale, sometimes A Different Bookstore, OneManga.
But I mostly just walk around, then buy when I have money. ^^;; Bargain bins are my friends.

National bookstore mainly. Sometimes I can afford Fully Booked. Now and then I go to Booksale. But I'm more of the sort who borrows books too from the school library.

National Bookstore has cheaper books than Power Books but I mostly get my books from Booksale for 20 pesos. :]
I don't go to Fully Booked because it's soooo far away from our house. Haha.

Definitely Booksale! And yeah, the UP peeps are good too. If there's a warehouse sale in either Powerbooks and National Bookstore, I'm there!
Also, there's this discount bookshop in Market Market that offers hardbound books, I forgot the name (was blinded by books and the word "discount"), but definitely going to go back there soon.
Also, there's the online (read: also expensive) option, but that's just for hard to find books.

A lot of my books are from NBS. But that's just because I used to live 5 minutes away from one.
I turned to Powerbooks and Fully Booked in high school. Then tried Booksale for a while. Man, I really had a hard time choosing a title. :3 Then I ended up with the book "stalls" in UP - mostly because it's more convenient. Another reason was the people behind them. They offer great reviews!
E-books - I get from friends.
Hmm. I totally splurge on books. They're probably my only vice.

Oh, cool, there are also people getting books in UP. I'm not from there, but I go there occasionally, either just to pass by or to check out my bookstores.:p My favorite there is the one near Coop, the vendors have this rotation thing going, but all of them are pretty nice.:) Plus, the books have a really nice quality even if they're second-hand.
Ravenmarked, where else are the bookstores there?
@starscouldfall: Where in AS?o_o I went there over the weekend, but I didn't see it. Are they closed over the sembreak (is it even sembreak already? :p)

AS is Palma Hall.
Anyway, it's along AS walk, opposite AS101. It's the open door thing beside the APO tambayan but I think they're close during the weekends and sembreaks.

I usually read reviews online, there is this awesome site where people can write their review about a certain book they have read. The books were usually classified so it wont be hard to find the genre you like. Me for example, I always visit the YA books. I read review, though careful with the spoilers. if people said really awesome things about the book, I'd go check a bookstore sites (NBS, FullyBooked, Power books) and see if they have. Then I'd call to their tel. number to have one reserved. The website is goodreads.com..:)

I get books in Book Sale. I go there at crazy times like 11.30 or something so that there's no kids browsing around mangas. 4.00 - 6.00 PM are the worst times. Lots of people and you can barely squeeze yourself in.

That would be a wonderful idea! I actually plan to give out through contests in my blog some old books I have, or those that are out of place in its series, e.g. the only paperback among hardcovers in the series. I'd still have to sort my library though and see if any blog readers would actually be interested.

Hm. That book swap club idea really tells me that there's a hunger for the Wrimos to stay active year-round. :-D Although of course if we do that, we'd have to give Tina a WHOLE lot more help than we currently do.
As for book haunts, I'm a UPLB Alum so I haven't explored Diliman that much, but the people at the secondhand bookstore at the UP Shopping Arcade know me already because I make purchases by the bulk every month (I live in La Union...)
For Filipiniana, a good discovery is F.Sionil Jose's SOLIDARIDAD BOOKSTORE on Padre Faura, just a block away from Robinson's. If you're lucky, you can buy an F.Sionil book and he'll be upstairs to sign it. If that's what you want, go in the afternoon. It's sort of a game of luck though because he's out of town a lot of time. (He can't write in the domestic noise of his own home-base, apparently. hehe)
For Christian books, there's The OMF Bookstore and PCBS, (I'm afraid I don't know the exclusively Catholic bookstores quite as well) of course, but another alternative is church or ministry-based bookstores. For example, the Navigators Ministries bookstore has a nice collection of secondhand Christian books. (Discipleship Journal Magazine is pretty good, check it out if you go there.) It's at Denver Street in Cubao. Right behind Victory Liner's Cubao Station. (That's on the Southbound side of EDSA)
And then there are the usual bookstores, of course. Fully Booked and A Different Bookstore in Bonifacio/Serendra are ideal if what you want to do is relax while you buy. National is the less expensive alternative, my favorite being the Cubao Superbranch because I grew up near there.
If you're looking for a new release, I hear FB gets theirs ever so slightly faster than Powerbooks. And if you don't find it on the shelves, don't hesitate to pester Customer Service because your book might be available in a different branch.

But the truth is, little gems can be found everywhere. Two of my favorite books, for example:
I got Christopher Vogler's "The Writer's Journey" at Diplomat Los Baños Crossing, which has a lot of lousy books... but sometimes there's a single good book there. (The Los Baños bookstores are pretty good, actually. Not as good as the Diliman stalls, but pretty good.)
and
I once took a trip to Dumaguete, and went into an RTW store. Serious. They had just TWO SHELVES of books, and there I found John Eldredge's The Journey of Desire, which soon easily became my favorite Eldredge book.
So, keep your eyes peeled, and don't let anything pass.
What I'd really like to know, though, is how to buy Ynez' previous Nano winners. I know at least one's been published...

1. Booksale. My usual branches are the ones in Cubao and Megamall.
2. Recto (I work nearby so when I have time I go over and browse through dusty stocks of books. Great bargains)
3. The sale bins of Powerbooks, National Bookstore and Fully Booked.
The downside of those stores is you have to wait a few months before getting the new releases. However in Recto, sometimes in a matter of weeks meron na. It's usually brand new books that people have read once and sold to these sellers.
If I really wanted a book as soon as it's released, I usually head over to National Bookstore. It's cheaper by a hundred pesos or so than Fully Booked or Powerbooks.
The books I'm done reading with or ready to trade, I put up in an online store my friends and I put up.
