Sooo. I think this should extend to all of Denver/Colorado.

It has come to my recent attention that one of my friends has never been to Casa Bonita, and has lived in Colorado since she was 2. This makes me incredibly sad, and a bit horrified (Oh man, you should see the MSN conversation, it's pretty epic)

So this is my suggestion A Casa Bonita meet up, sometime over one of the weekends. (I'd really like to go, so hopefully not Saturday afternoon). Other than that I have no idea, I just wanted to see if anyone else was up for it, and had any ideas over what time? (We don't even have to write, it can just be a fun time to get to know each other.)

I'd be up for that, but yes, it'd definitely have to be over the weekend. Saturdays are typically better for me than Sundays; however, I could probably swing midafternoon on Sunday (3 or later). And the first couple of weekends in November are likely filled with family members' birthdays (haven't set up a time yet) and a housewarming party, so personally it's looking like later in November would be better for me, unless it's actually this month, in which case I'm more open.

And if it's a meetup rather than a write-in, could we bring along nonNaNoers? A coworker and I were talking a while back, and she mentioned she's never been to Casa Bonita but would like to go "just to see if it's really like that South Park episode." So I'd like to invite her along, but if it's a true write-in, I'm not sure she'd like it very much.

I've never been and neither has our roommate. My husband considers this a crime, so let me know when and I suppose we'll be there ;)

I've also never been...and I've lived her since I was one.

Sounds fun. I hear we're supposed to bring our stomachs already full so we don't have to eat the food.

I'm in! Sunday afternoons work best for me, so I don't have to abandon Mr. Raspberry at work - but I'm fairly flexible. :)

Or show up hungry and just eat the delicious sopapillas with honey. Mm...

Yeah, I'm totally in. Possibly dragging my bestie along too.

Feel free to invite her! Casa Bonita is the place to bring lots of people and have fun :D

Sad day! It's a lot of fun, (It's really for little kids but whatever!) You have to order something, but the prices aren't too bad. The food it a bit of a joke, but their sopapillas are amazing and you can have tons of those *lol*. But yeah, you really dont go for the food, but you have to go at least once! Especially since we live in Denver :D

Does anyone have any idea when?

For me I was thinking anytime on Saturday after like 5:30-6ish, or Sunday afternoon/evening. Or even friday night. Weekend wise I think it'd be best on the first or second week unless someone can't make it. If you can give me an idea of when, we can get this in motion :3

And there isn't any space limit, so everyone can come (and bring non-nanoers)

Saturdays are best for me, except for the 21st when i have a big event. We would need a sign to find each other in there, it's pretty big!!! Let's do it!

So far I know Friday night the 6th and Sat night the 14th are out for me.

I also have two upcoming family birthdays, but haven't yet heard when those will be--I'm going to guess Sunday afternoon on the 1st (sucks for NaNo momentum...) and Saturday night on the 7th.

Aside from all that, I could do a Sunday afternoon/evening at 3pm or later. Friday nights are pretty open, and apart from my listed things, my Saturdays are open all day.

I suspect this will be a popular event, so I went ahead and made a Doodle scheduler for people to vote on their availability.

I'd love to see this happen. Sunday afternoon/evening would work beautifully. Casa Bonita's the perfect place, too, with all that extra space they never fill up. We could have a NaNo meeting/write-in down in one of those caves. . . .

I'd love to go! I live right near there. Someone NaNoMail me the date and time if possible 'cause I have a feeling that I'll forget about this. And yes, the sopapillas are very amazing.

A few things to note for folks who haven't been there:

You have to buy a meal to get in. Casa Bonita is a lot more editable than it used to be. I can suggest the fajitas, fried ice cream, or some of the gorditas (stuffed fried bread), it's all very mild and only kind of mexican. But seriously you cannot get in the door without buying something.

Once in it's pretty awesome. Besides a floor show, the falls, the nifty rooms, there are arcades, and free sopapillas. The sopapillas are awesome.

There really isn't anywhere to plug in to, so writing may be limited. Finally this is a great place to bring kids.

doesn't sound like a nice quiet place we can plug in to write.
What about:
Sloan's Bar & Grille - Edgewater Restaurant
Address: 5850 W 25th Avenue,Edgewater,CO,80214Phone: 3032744244
http://www.sloansbar.com/

It's quiet, private, you can plug in your laptops, and according to Yelp, it has 4 out of 5 stars.
And you can drink for free on your birthday

And, as far as I know, they haven't fed children dog food ever. (Why I won't be going to Casa Bonitas)

My wife, who has first hand experience, says otherwise. The only time she went there was for a birthday party when she was about 6 years old. When she finally recieved her food, it looked like dog food. She smelled it and it smelled like dog food. Then she tasted it and it tasted like dog food.
When asked how she knew what dog food tasted like, she gave that look and said she was 6, she KNEW what dof food tasted like.

She didn't eat mexican food for 20 years after, thinking all mexican food tastes like dog food.

Okay, maybe it wasn't dog food. Maybe it just failed a taste test when comparing it to dog food.

I did some reseach in this, and I did find that Casa Bonita poured thousands of dollars into television to dispel these rumors. But, aren't all rumors (and especially myths) based in fact.

Where there is smoke, is there fire?
Anyway, I'm sure it has improved a great deal, and it does sound like a fun place to party, all those gaming machines and the mariachi music, but are herds of little kids having birthday parties really the best environment to write in? Well, if it works for you.

Lol Ground beef at most Mexican restaurants looks very unappetizing. And I love Mexican food.

Shrug, like I said, it would be good for a more casual meet-up but there's plenty of room to avoid most kids like the caves or the mines.

Any idea yet when this will be? Looks like eight people voted in the survey, and the evenings of Sun 1, Sun 8, Fri 13, and Sat 14 all tied with 6 votes.

I might be interested. I'm trying to clear November for Nano Events - but we all know scheduling can get a little hairy. One of the things I love about Nano is the different types of meet up groups. I wouldn't recommend Casa Bonita for those who prefer to write in quiet rooms and don't like interruptions - but for Nanoers like me who have a child and are used to a constant stream of "Mommy, look! Mommy, look! Mommy, oh?! Why is this purple?" (That's when you break of noveling and go look . . . ). I think Casa Bonita would be a fun venue. Regardless - I'll stay tuned to see if you post a date and a time. Thanks for suggesting new places!

Oooh I haven't been to Casa Bonita in forever. Sounds perfect to me, even if writing IS going to be limited. Social meet-ups are part of what makes NaNo so fun, in my opinion!

Oh -- and I second that on the sopapillas! You can't go to Casa Bonita and NOT get sopapillas, in my opinion!

Okay! I'm going to push for either the 8th or the 13th. Both times will start at like 6:30-7:00ish and will just wind down from there!

Last chance to speak up!

8th works great. Sounds like it might be pulling ahead. Perhaps an ML could formalize it on a calendar of some sort?
