So I opened this discussion on the chat and was wondering what others think as well. What font do you use for writting? I personally find that if I don't like my font, I get distracted from what I'm writting and I have yet to find the font for this year's NaNo. So any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers!

11 pt. Courier New, double-spaced for original work.
9 pt. Verdana single-spaced for fan fiction (don't judge).
I haven't a clue why I use different fonts for them, but I do. And usually, if I'm just typing something up that I've already written on paper and not writing anything fresh, I'll just leave it as default - 10 pt. Times New Roman.
Font doesn't really bother me while I'm writing, as long as it's something legible and not too distracting.

Hrrrmmm.
In 2007, I used Segoe Media Center, size 12 (in Microsoft Word).
In 2008, I used Kartika, size 17 ... though it certainly didn't look that big (in Q10; I also had a dark grey background).
I don't have a set font, really. My tastes differ from time to time. I'm finding myself attracted to Calibri and small sizes of Tahoma this year, so we'll see which one wins out. :D

Personally I just use Times New Roman, pt. 11 font. I'll often use others, such as Verdana or Lucida handwriting (not sure if this is on Word, I use OpenOffice) for chapter/novel titles.

On the computer, in Word or Pages (or now Scrivener), I use either Times New Roman 12 pt. or Courier 10 pt. (usually the latter for original stuff, just because that's the standard). The AlphaSmart NEO prints Courier 12 pt., but the size I use on the screen (5 lines per screen, vs. 4 or 6) shows up as a san serif "irregular space" font (sorry, the proper term for the font spacing escapes me at the moment).
Chapter titles, I generally do at 14 pt. or 12 pt. respectively. And bolded. And dark blue.
Other than that, I handwrite cursive script, fairly small (8-10 pt. equivalent, I suspect).

Aside from seeing comic sans *shudders* sorry, the graphic designer in me is inpressed with the fonts. though her are my personal favorits for writing most things
Bodoni 12pt 1.5 spacing in word a ledding of 20 pt with a tight tracking and kerning to minimiz the rivers. (sorry again for that but i have actully had to type set books at a print shop and for school. it can be blinding)
bell, Palatino and baskerville with all the settings of above. and for thoughs of you who wonder...yes i love the modern type classification. i'm bad. but hey it's readable to me. and that means i can read it without my glasses....though that hurts

Comic Sans and Papyrus...ewwwww. Each cause me phyisical pain to see used so profusely in the world.
Bodoni? For copy? Hmmm, I guess, maybe. I usually think of Didones as more of a display face, but that's probably more of a personal quirk. Actually...just took a look and Bodoni Book is nice and clean in a paragraph. Good to note...
Definitely love the Palatino and Baskerville though. For sans serif stuff I'm a big fan of Univers 55. 10pt. / 20pt lead. Though I usually worry about typesetting once all the copy has been written. Don't much worry about it until then.
In other words, it will probably just end up in either Times or Calibri, depending on the program in which I'm writing.

Good old Times New Roman, 12 point, single-spaced until it's time for the r-word (revision). That and Courier are the standard for publishing submissions, and I can't stand Courier, so...

Garamond or something similarly classy, in pt 11. Maybe 10.5, depends on the screen resolution. I also need to have that stupid extra-space-between-paragraphs setting that's now standard in Word turned off, and the text justified. I am not a block quotation girl, though a friend of mine swears by it.

I find a garishly themed font that fits the 'mood' of my novel, shrink it down to an illegible size (8 point usually works, 6 point if it needs it), and then write like mad. If I can't *read* what I'm writing, it cuts way down on stopping to "correct" what I'm writing!
I do leave it just legible enough to read the last word or two, so when I pick the story back up I have an idea where I stopped. Otherwise the novel is a mystery to me until the end of November!

for older versions of windows... Times new roman... buut, when i'm working on the newer one, i'm going to 'step outside the box' here, and say cambria... very very like times new roman, but a little different. either one is easy to read, and looks all professional, making me feel important (practically like a real writer, haha), and swelling my head to an unnatural size. I figure that if i'm so misshapen that i can't get out the door, i'll have no choice but to write more instead of leaving the house :)

I just chose Luxi Sans...it's an Open Office font. I wish my laptop had Word. Sigh. I would probably be going with Palatino...or maybe Book Antiqua.

Now I write in Cambria, 12 pt because Word for Mac has it set as a default. I like the look of it better than Times New Roman, actually, which is why I keep it.
I once wrote an entire novel in Harrington, 14 pt, for some inexplicable reason. It was rather difficult to read as a result. I had to increase the size... I should have only used it for the chapter titles, but I was silly then. Now I know better, though I'm still silly. :)

Usually don't change from default unless it is bothering me. Legibility FTW!
That said, default is usually 12-point Arial, or Times. (Though I generally wouldn't switch from Verdana or Cambria if that's what I started in.) Courier is strictly for scripts. Makes me squirm to use it in other formats. When I do switch, it is usually to Arial. Plain, calming Arial.
Good luck finding the font that works for you this year, Elfin.
