The last few years a group of us have been getting together on Sunday nights to do a write-in at Malarkey's in Westland. Unfortunately, I think most of the people who had been coming to that one are now part of the Ann Arbor region and won't be coming any longer.
So, is there interest from people in the area to continue with this write-in, or would another location/time/day serve better? The food at Malarkey's is great, but the Sunday night movie can be a bit distracting sometime! (Tropic Thunder, Superbad, The Love Guru...) I'm open to changing when/where we meet, depending on other people's availability/location, so go ahead and discuss!

I visit my dad on weekends in Redford, so I would go to one in that area. But sadly I really have no idea what's around there, so I can't really help with figuring out places... sorry. ^^; But if anyone does, I would like to go~

I am in Livonia (near I-275 & Ann Arbor road), and would like to go to a write-in that fits in with my schedule. I would be interested in joining if anyone wants to. I know there are Tuesday night and Saturday afternoon write-ins at the Westland library, but I don't think I'll be able to make hardly any of those. So, if there were to be a meet-up at another time nearby, I'd be game.

I'm in Livonia as well. I like Caribou Coffee and Panera's for good writing spots, but I'm flexible.

I'm on the Livonia/Westland border @Joy and Newburgh, so I'll try to make whatever's decided on.

Both of these sound good to me. I would be available any days other than Mondays or Tuesdays, if that helps.

I would be more than happy to meet at Malarkey's, or at any of the other suggested sites, for that matter. It would be a great opportunity to meet up with some local nanowrimo's. Let me know where and when, and I'll be there.

So are people going to Malarkey's tonight? I'm usually not available on Sunday nights, since I spend most weekends at my boyfriend's in Detroit, but he's out of town and if I'm feeling adventurous later, I might wander over there. Depends on how much I get done today and how tired I am... still getting over my cold from earlier in the week. But I wanted to find out if anything was even set for tonight!

I'm in Garden City and could definitely make something in Westland/Livonia or anywhere around here really. As cool as it would be to make the library write-ins...Saturdays are busy during the day and Tuesdays I have Scouts. (I'm a Webelos leader.)
Malarky's, Panera or somewhere else in the area would be great and I'd definitely try to make it!

I'm in for Malarkey's tonight if people are interested. Shall we say 7:00 at the tables in the back? There are plugs there and I'll bring a multi-strip just in case. Hope to see some of the local WriMos there tonight!

Eric, I'm not sure I'm going to make it... bit of a headache is coming on. I hope you get some turnout there though! Good luck, I'm at 2280 and really wanted to get to 5K before bed. We'll see!

I got a little over 2000 words done last night while I was there, plus had some good food. The waitress wanted to know what I was doing, so I explained a little about NaNo to her.
So should we try this again with a little more notice this time? Sunday nights around 7:00 work for me, so I'll propose that as a time again next week if there are others that are interested. So who's in?

Sounds like a decent time, and good progress. As I said, Sunday nights generally don't work for me, unfortunately! But it sounds like others are game. Good luck!

While I may have gotten 2000+ words done there last night, I was the only one that showed up. I wasn't certain if this was due to the last-minute nature, or if that time doesn't work out for people. So if Sunday night will work, and people are interested, please speak up so we can try to put a group together. If it won't work then we can try some other time.

I went to a few of the write-ins at Malarkey's last year, but won't be able to make Sundays this month. :( I'd love to see ya'll some other times, though! I can generally do Mondays, Wednesdays/Fridays after 7:00, Thursdays, and every other Saturday. Did anyone know that the IHOP at Ford and Telegraph is 24 hours Friday and Saturday night? And they actually have outlets. :O I want to talk to someone in power there and see how they'd feel about writers though before committing to meeting there. I also doubt they have Wi-fi.
Anyway, once this week is over (midterms, kill me now), I'll hopefully be able to attend more write-ins that are planned.

I am open to Malarkey's, or wherever, for that matter, Wed-Sun evenings. I am hoping to meet with any of you soon to support each other (and frankly, steal some ideas from each other). I know there is a Panera's and another shop at 6 and Newburgh. Does Big Boy have wifi? That might be a possibility. Anyway, as soon as I start to see a concensus on this forum, I will be happy to jump in and offer to show up.

The civic center is always a nice quiet place for a write-in. Livonia on 5 mile. Maybe there sometime?

Great idea on the Civic Center, but we would have to keep in mind their hours, M-W til 9m, Th-Sun til 5p. I'm game to meet there. Anywhere, frankly.

Just wanted to give a shout out that I'm in Livonia as well - 5 and Inkster. I'm not much of a writer, more an animator video production gal.
But, if anything comes up, I just wanted you guys to know that I'm here if you need me!

So is anyone going to decide on a place?
I vote for Saturdays, by the way. I'm not in Redford on Sunday nights, just Friday and Saturdays, and I have another write in in Bloomfield township on Fridays...

There are a lot of places in Westland that carry WiFi:
- Golden Chopstick in Westland (a dang good chinese place in my opinion w/ good sushi)
- Beaver Creek in Westland (a great tavernesque like place w/ great food and beer)
- Malarky's in Westland (as you have discovered already)
- Mongolian BBQ in Canton
- BW3's in Westland (but it is loud there)
- Panera Bread by the mall in Westland
I am sure there are more restaurant-like places but these are the ones that I was able to come up with in the past 5 min.
Edited to add: There is also the Westland Write-In at the Westland library I think that has been scheduled for Saturdays and on some Tuesdays I think.

Yeah I live on Arcola, closer to the intersection of 5 and Inkster. My mom's house, before we moved, was on Arcola right off of Lyndon though...did you go to Franklin?
