People who participate in the local Winnipeg area have found our customized version of the NaNoWriMo Hipster PDA to be useful over the years.
Here is a link to the fabulous DIY*Planner site, from which they sprang, so people all over the province can print out the pages they will use the most for themselves.
Please bear in mind that a little bit of computer savvy is required to make the most of this - you should either have a paper trimmer handy or know how to make your printer spit out standard index cards (3x5) with 1/8" borders. The first years we printed them on cardstock and cut them out, now we just print the pages on cards directly.
The pages we hand out are generally:
- Character (3x5 character sketch)
- Story Idea (a brief outline of your story so you have something to fall back on)
- Plot Point (prior to 2009 - a place to capture the essential high points in your tale, those pivotal scenes that Must Happen for the book to work)
- Mind Map (a visual planning aid)
- Notes [grid] (a visual planning aid)
- Notes [lines] (prior to 2009 - a visual planning aid)
- Contacts (a place to put fellow Wrimos phone numbers)
- Book Notes (somewhere to write down all those great titles you get told about but won't read until December)
- the photo release we ask you to sign
