(Does that thread title make anyone else think of this?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rP4N27kbMdk )

ANYWAY, we are fast approaching November, and I know a lot of us will get to meet on Thursday, I think it would be lovely to get to know each other a bit RIGHT NOW, because I am impatient.

I'll start:

Hi, everybody! I'm Allison, I'm a junior at NAU, Secondary English Education major with minors in Spanish and (maybe) Theatre. Harry Potter was my first love, Twilight my most recent love. Though I also really love John Green, Maureen Johnson, Scott Westerfeld, and I'm FINALLY reading Justine Larbalestier. I love YA literature.
What else? I love The Office. And Glee. And I have NO IDEA what I'm going to write this year, but I am still really excited :)

So, what about you?

I'm Cory and this is my fourth year at NAU, and my fourth NaNo, however I'm not really a senior, because I changed my major last sprint from photography to computer information systems. So that's pretty sweet.

I can never decide what my favorite books and TV shows are because I do admittedly read far too little, and probably watch far too much TV. I love the Harry Potter series though, and the Wicked Cycle by Gregory Maguire. I also love musicals, especially awesome upbeat musicals.

Beyond that, I'm a bit of a computer nerd and love reading gadget websites, and love doing weird things like writing novels in November.

I'm Eve. I work full-time as an editor of scholarly works - my clients are some of the brightest and most innovative educators and researchers on the planet. I'm getting a terrific education from the raw manuscripts that cross my desk for editing. My co-workers are creative, brilliant, and mellow. Before this great job, I worked like a dog at a small-town newspaper as a copy editor and legal ads clerk. Prior to that, I was a freelancer who developed/edited content for educational software for Cosmi -- they used to pay me royalties but they were taken over by some other company and that was the end of that amazing ride. Before that, I worked tech support for Micro*** and it was a thankless, stressful job that almost cost me my sanity. The next time you call tech support, please be nice! Before that, I was a commercial nonfiction book author, and I aim to get back on track with that suddenly interrupted dream. By this time in my life -- I'm 52 years old -- I'm especially driven to make my longtime dream come true -- in fiction!

By night and on the weekends, I strive for professional balance in my life by writing novels. I also have my own fledgling micro-e-press, which is my foray into an intellectual and social experiment to see if I can make money from books without killing any trees. So far, the answer is, "Yes, but just a little bit of money." I have great things to say about Amazon.com's Kindle reader and self-publishing opportunities.

I've entered the challenge several times and have gotten two novels finished. One of them is Letters from David, a mainstream romance which has been reviewed and is available on Amazon as a Kindle book and I also sell it as a pdf. If you want to read it, just message me privately and I'll give you my free friends and family link. (Just don't upload the pdf to bittorrent or any filesharing, please, because I do make money from my e-book!)

Last year, I didn't do the challenge because I was taking a very time-consuming course at ASU. This one class was 15-20 hours of homework per week, plus I work a full-time job. So this year, no school and lots of writing!

I had a great time at the first meeting, the kick-off party at Peter Piper. Good times are coming for all of you, the best and the brightest of Flagstaff who "pitched" their books at the meeting (good practice!) and exchanged ideas and contact info. I work a full-time job, but I am still committed to writing 50,000 words in November. Just promise yourself 2,000 words a day and you will make it there, too! I've done this before, so I know I can do it again.

I'll be writing a contemporary mystery-romance which I hope to submit to Harlequin in early 2010. One of the big dreams I have been chasing for a long time is to become one of their authors. I've watched close friends of mine do it. One of my dearest friends was my critique partner for years, and she is now on her 12th book for them, so I know it can be done. It's about perseverance, quality, and yes, quantity.

Please add me to your buddy list. I wish you all the best writing experiences this November!

Best wishes,
Eve

Hey there. Got your into. Glad to meet you. I added you on FaceBook though I'm not on their much. This will be my 4th year on NaNoWriMo and hoping to "hit the jackpot" as I do every year. Of course, my goals are a little different from the official rules here. They say do 50,000 words in 30 days. Well that's a little hard for me. It's kind of restrictive. My first year I hit 50,000 word in 8 days and realized the limit just wasn't high enough. This year my goal is 125,000 words and to be honest I don't think I'm going to have any trouble with it. Of course, that usually means I finish one and have to start another but that's okay. Anyway, hope to chat with you some and hope you hit your mark this year.

Jerry

First, to Cory: quote "I changed my major last sprint..."??? Nanoism number one for you - you're looking at too many cell phone websites. :)

Hi all! I'm Megan! I'm a senior at NAU with a major in art (painting emphasis) and a minor in psychology. This is my first NaNo, although I've kinda been hanging around Cory during all his times NaNoing, going to write-ins and stuff. This year, thanks to unemployment and a lack of writing-intensive classes, I've decided to take the dive myself and write a novel!! I've written before - mostly/only unfinished fanfictions because I'm a nerd who watches too much tv, but I have written one story that is twice NaNo-length (and i'm super proud of it - it's not even done!). That was in a year though. Now I want to do something original, in a month!! I hope I can do it!!

Random facts about me - I love HGTV for some bizarre reason, I'd love to work for Disney, I rock the drums in Rock Band, I do not have webbed feet, Taylor Swift had the best video of all time -- OF ALL TIME! -- it is a little late at night right now and that makes me silly so one can only imagine what my novel will be like, Harry Potter took over half my life (I almost think that's bragging), Teen Titans is much love, and our Municipal Liaison is awesome. :) Although I may be a little biased.

Anyways, I hope you all are as excited for this as I am!!!
Megan!

Okay--My name is Kelly Poe Wilson and this is my second nano. Last year I wrote a paranormal romance about a half-faerie half-demon girl and the road trip she unwillingly takes across the Midwest with an emissary from the Faerie Court. My mother likes it. It's on Amazon as a POD, and it's called UNFORGETTABLE. Anyway, last year I had so much fun that I dragged two friends into nano with me (Hi Jesse, Hi Adrianna), as well as 200 Flagstaff school students. Yes, that's 200. They kind of hate me right now. This year I'm writing another paranormal romance, but it's about zombies. The working title is YOU ONLY CALL ME WHEN YOU'RE DEAD. I work nights, so I won't be able to make many nano events, but I enjoy the internet camaraderie regardless. So, yeah, keep it up.

Hi all! I'm Stephanie, and this is my.... 6th year? 7th year? doing NaNo. I used to be an ML, but I'm officially retired from cat-herding, so please direct all your questions at Cory. I probably won't answer you just because I don't have to, for once. =P That's totally a lie. If you need some extra sideline pom-poming, feel free to pester me. I have a 50/50 win ratio, with a pretty consistent win a year loose a year trend, so I'm due for a victory this year, since last year was a little... well, psycho.

I'm a senior at NAU (or I will be, if they ever transfer my credits from study abroad) majoring in English with a minor in Japanese and in Art. I won't be graduating this spring though. I'll probably be getting done next Christmas. I might hang around til May taking more Art and maybe some Photo classes though, since I want to do the JET program, which starts in July, and I don't want to sit on my hands doing nothing that long.

This year's novel is a step in a completely different direction for me, since I usually write Fantasy. I'm going to be trying my hand at a maybe sort of mainstream fiction with a tiny tiny sci-fi twist? But really, the more plot I get ironed out in my skull, the more it looks like a Satire/Romance. The current title is MECHANOPHILIA, but that's subject to change. Haha. If I do well with this one, I think I might try to actually edit this year, and maybe submit it to some publishers so I can get some rejection letters to frame. I think it'd be a good experience for me.

So. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu, and let's have a great month!

To be fair, I'm allowed to already be having nanoisms, it's been a long week! :P

I also just discovered today that my NaNo profile says I'm 18, which I'm not, although I'd love to be 18 and in my fourth year at a university. I'm 21.

Alas, I think the sprint thing was just because my nanoisms have started early this year (which I think means I'll actually want to reread this coming novel, just for the laughs that will inevitably ensue.) Additionally, T and G are really close to each other on the keyboard, and I have a really bad habit of turning off spell checking on everything I see/own/touch. (You might want to check your computer for that, Megan.)

Although Megan is totally right, I have been looking at the cell provider websites a bit too much.

I thought about giving my novel this year the title Antique Storm however I can't really think of how I'd integrate it with the actual story that I've got. It would be interesting to see anyway.

I'm Lauren. I'm a senior at NAU majoring in English and minoring in Cinema and Visual Culture.
I became an English major after writing a Harry Potter fanfic and learning about this little thing called 'nerdfighting'. It's a good thing, I promise. See: www.nerdfighters.com. Anyway, I simply loved the world of literature so much that I knew it had to be the focus of my life, and now, here I am. This is my first Nanowrimo, and I'm not pressuring myself too much to finish. I have my honors thesis, GREs, and grad school applications to worry about. Mostly, I'm just looking for a good time. Can't wait to get to know everyone. Good luck!

My name is Sara and I'm a senior at NAU. I'm majoring in photojournalism and criminology.... but my favorite pipe dream is becoming a full-time novelist. This year, I am pretty crunched for time just trying to finish up all of my classes and work full-time, but I am really going to try hard to finish my novel by the 30th! I'm writing fiction about how every little thing we do in life affects everyone else, even people we don't actually know. I'm pretty in love with it so far and I'm hoping to keep the spirit up as I'm usually one of those who gets halfway through a novel and starts over! =0

Oops, I've been a bit hermit-like and haven't even stopped by to introduce myself.

My name is Michelle, and this is my seventh year participating in NaNoWriMo. I've won four times (I think. I've lost count by now) and hope I'll be able to put another winning year under my belt. I guess we'll just have to see where the wind takes me this year. Being that I had to work early this morning, I'm a little behind, but nothing I can't amend. Oh, I work in the music/DVD department at Barnes and Noble. Stop by and say hello if you get the chance; it can get to be a little boring and uneventful at times.

I'm trying to rewrite my fantasy western novel from last year called Boot Hill. I have a feeling like this is the story that needs to be told the most and shared, so I'm hoping that I can get most of it written during November, and then get on the rocky, rocky road to publication. Gah, so much work goes into writing publishable pieces.

Anyway, I'm blathering on and am behind. If you want to hit my up for a word war, IM me!

HI! I'm Jaime and I'm a senior at NAU and a Biology major with Chemistry and German minors. This will be my fourth year of Nanowrimo and hopefully my schedule will be relaxed enough so that I will have time to finish and win this year. I've tried writing original fiction in the past which was pretty difficult so this year I am going to try writing fanfiction.

Hi all!

Evidently I'm the token granny of the pack, since I graduated from NAU about 50 years ago. (A-hem.) Anyhoo, my name is Georgiana Daniels and I write inspie fiction, and have a novel out from White Rose Publishing/The Wild Rose Press (Table for One, available on Amazon if you're so inclined.)

I did NANO for the first time about 3 years ago--maybe 4--it's all a blur. Finished that year with the world's worst piece of dreck you could possibly imagine, but it showed me I could at least complete something of size. This year I'm working on my 6th novel, while my agent sits back and waits for me to produce something brilliant. (She might have to grab a snack or three.)

Most likely I won't meet you all in person, as my kidlets have activities on T/Th that run until 7, but who knows, it could happen.

Hope y'all are having a blast!

All right, I'm back. This will be my third Nano, and maybe third time is the charm, because I failed miserably the last two years. I actually don't live in Flag, though I went to school some years back and have both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees from NAU.

My name's Carol, and I teach English Language Learners on the Navajo reservation. I'm way over here in Chinle, so you won't see much of me, especially not on weekday nights. In the past, about all I ever made it to as far as write-ins were concerned were the ones on Saturdays, and not always those!

My attempt this year is a Science Fiction (my last two were fantasy...trying a change). I've recently sent a query to an agent, and the feedback so far is positive, so go me! Maybe this time next year I'll be published! Woot!

Anyway, looking forward to writing with all you youngsters. Good luck this year!

My name is Beth and I am in my second year at NAU. I am an English Secondary Ed major. This is my first time ever doing NaNoWriMo. In fact, I had never even heard of it until Halloween. I was like, why not? My job has ended until next semester so hopefully I will have more time to write. I really want to finish because I convinced my 15 year old brother to do it and if he finishes and I don't, I will be really sad. So, yeah.
