Hi everyone!
I'd really like to know if there are any teenage writers in the Detroit area or at least writers working on YA. As most NaNoWriMo teens may know, it's rather intimidating to be so young and new to the writing scene while surrounded by adults who have done this before and have more experience. So if anyone's out there, please respond. Thanks in advance!

Me! Me! I'm only sixteen, and I'm on my second year of NaNo. I'm doing fanfiction this year, but that's okay :D

Wow, that was fast! Thank you very much for replying. Where are you from? Do you plan on going to the kick-off party?

Thank you for posting this! My friend and I are both doing NaNo this year (I don't know if she's part of this region yet...) and we're both 16. You're right, I've been a little intimidated, but so far everyone sounds like they're pretty awesome :)

Everyone on NaNo seems so supportive and kind. It definitely wasn't the harsh environment I expected.

That's something you'll learn to really enjoy - we're all a super-supportive group.

As for your question, I'm out of Farmington Hills and no, I'm not planning on going to the kick-off. Can't get a ride out. :(

^^ Hey! I'm Beatrice, sixteen, and this is my first year doing NaNo. I'm pretty excited, especially since I got my best friend (Tallonrook on here) to participate with me. (She's fifteen at the moment, but she'll be turning sixteen a couple of days into November.) We're currently making a few last-minute efforts to persuade another friend of ours to give it a go this year, even though she managed sixty thousand words last year and had decided not to do it again. xP

We're all from around West Bloomfield/Bloomfield, although none of us are going to the kickoff party because Tallonrook has a council meeting that takes about five hours of her Saturday. D= And my parents are iffy about letting me go on my own.

Hey Beatrice and Megan, I think I may know you guys personally... but let's not reveal yet, shall we? :) How about at the end of the month.

I'm 17. Around the same area as everyone else... and I'm writing romance this year. I think we should have our own little YA write-in somewhere, since the adults can have them at places with age limits. ;)

Hope everyone has a fantastic time!

I'm 19... technically still a teen, but not really, lol. XDD Too old for the YA site, anyway. XP

But I did start doing NaNo when I was 17, so I know what it's like. :3 Good luck to you all! I hope to meet you in some write ins!

No need for anyone to be intimidated! I started in on this madness when I was 16, myself. I'm 21 now, and I'm a co-ML!

When I started, it was my junior year of high school, which was the most difficult year of high school for me, academically. I didn't succeed, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and I was hooked! I'm glad to see all of you guys joining us.

Please don't be intimidated... just because some of us "adults" have been doing this for a few years, does not mean we are *good* at it. I'm 34, this is my third year, and I have YET to win!

If any young writers are in the Downriver area, I'm working on putting together a Monday night write in at the Panera Bread on Eureka Road in Taylor... NO age limit.

I'll post details as I have them.

:-)

Thank you both for all of the support. All of the fear of being judged because of my age has melted away, everyone is supportive and kind. All of the encouragement will definitely help me get my 50,000 words in as well as make me a lot less nervous at the write-ins (I definitely plan on attending, Kendra! Thanks a lot for setting it up).

Helloooo! FIfteen years old, fourth year NaNo-ing, haven't yet won.
That's kind of embarassing.....

Anyway, hi, my name is Merri and it's lovely to meet all you other young'ns. I'm from the Detroit suburbs [Grosse Pointe, if any of you know where that is... basically if you drive by Lake St Clair and then suddenly get wholloped with pink, green, argyle, and pearls, you're in Grosse Pointe] and I /think/ I'm going to the kickoff, if some of you guys are as well. I get all awkward when I'm the only teen, haha.

Anybody else's parents being superweird about nano? Mine have always been fine with it, but now all of a sudden they're only letting me on the internet for one hour a night- I dunno how I'll make it through nano without the boards at my disposal!

Well, I'm going to the kick-off party for sure with my friend Chelsea. So don't worry, you aren't alone! And my parents are supportive but think it's crazy for me to try. They also think that it's impossible, but I'm definitely gonna prove them wrong.

Hay. I'm 13 (although turning 14 next week, not that it really matters.). I qualify for this group of writers you search for.

I'm Megan and I'm 15. I'm a Grosse Pointer too. I really like writing, but I started too late last year, so I didn't get near finishing. I'm really excited for this year. I'd like to go the Kick Off Party, but I'm not sure if my parents have time. It's good to see so many other young writers, so I'm not alone. :) Nice to meet you guys.

I'm not a teen (25) but I'm writing YA. Weird how easy it is to recall those years, but ultimately enjoyable... We'll see how this goes :D

I'd really love to see all of you at the kick-off party. If anyone's in the downriver area I can try and give rides, though my parents may not let me.

I live on the other side of GP, like near Dippin Dots. I think my parents might be able to take me now, but I'll let you know if things change. Thanks so much for the offer. See you tomorrow (hopefully).

Hi! I'm 16 and this is my first NaNo! I have no idea if i can go to the kick-off, because it really depends on homework (if i can get it done and have all Sunday to write) and parents (because I expect they'll freak about me running off to some party I heard about on the internet) and ski team conditioning (which is at the exact same time, but I'd much rather skip), but I'm hoping to. At this point, I expect to go to the Friday Panera Bread Write-ins, especially if other teens are going.

I'm an adult who is writing a book geared for pre-teens so I checked in on this thread. Last year was my first year doing NANOWRIMO, and I was intimidated too but I had so much fun. You all obviously have a lot of drive, passion, and imagination I know you will succeed. Good Luck on your projects.

I'm 21 years old, and I still write young adult novels. I prefer to write them, because I'm scared one day in the future when I want to write YA books I won't be able to.

I can't believe I just found out about this website less than an hour ago. I have no idea what I'm going to do, but I'm going to try.

Don't worry, a lot of people just run it by the seat of their pants, even some WriMos who've done it for years! If you want quick inspiration for a plot, I say try seventhsanctum.com or just google some writing prompts. They'll get you started. Or if you want to, just start writing about anything at all tomorrow and then try to expand upon it. A plot eventually forms and remember that during NaNo, it's about quantity, not quality. Good luck, I hope you love NaNo! (:

I'm 15, and this is my second year doing NaNo. I've had a lot more practice writing since last year (I've wrote 100,000 words in fanfictions XD) so I'm sure I'll win this year! :D

I'm 23...so not a teenager, and my character is around 21 so she isn't either BUT I still think that my novel is young adult. It's a story about self discovery and changing.

She's just as confused and frustrated as she was when she was 17. There is going to be alot ( at least I'm planning it this way ) of passages where she remembers things/tells the story from when she was 16, 17, 18...

AND OF COURSE there's a guy. One of the most important part of a YA story (to me at least) is the guy.

I'm 19, it's my first NaNo, and I'm writing fantasy. It's going to be a long, LONG month, combining work, band practice and other such nonsense. I hope I can win my first year.

Hi! I'm Taelor :) I'm sixteen and in Detroit's Eastern Market district, but I spent most of my time in the Grosse Pointe area! It's so weird to think that there are actually people in my same city doing this crazy thing, too. Anywho, this is my second year, and I was successful last year so I'm hoping for another good year.

Hey all. I'm Thomas, i'm 16, and this is my second year attempting NaNoWriMo. last year i din't finish because the only computer that i had to write on was the family computer, so i never had enough time to finish... sadly this year i'm in the same position because my laptop contracted a deadly, operating system killing virus and it's now in california where my IT person (my aunt that knows everything about computers) is fixing it, but i may not get it back till the end of novmber if i'm lucky... But i intend on writing my novel by hand when a computer isn't availibe so i can keep up.
