Rules for the 2009 Challenge: Team Lushguin v the State of Maryland

Eligibility
• Texans: You must live within 60 miles of Austin or Houston. You may not come from another city that has its own Regional Lounge.
• Marylanders: You must live in the state of Maryland.

Sign-ups
• Notify your challenge coordinator via email ONLY - texas (at) flickguy (dot) com in Texas or maryland (at) flickguy (dot) com in Maryland - by midnight on November 3 that you want to participate. Your email must contain your nano username.
• During the challenge, you must respond to any requests from your challenge coordinator within a maximum of three days so we know you aren’t missing in action.
• Your challenge coordinator will provide a “word count thread” in your regional lounge to track word count. Participants will post ONCE to this thread when instructed by the challenge coordinator. When everyone has posted, the thread will be locked.

Updating Word Count
• You must update your word count at least once every five days. If you are unable to update your count, contact your challenge coordinator.
• During the course of the contest, we may ask that you update your word count more frequently.
• You must input your final word count by midnight on November 30. After midnight, you will no longer be able to update your count.

Scoring
• You may drop out of the challenge at any time up to midnight on November 15 without affecting your team’s count.
• Only the official word count from the locked “word count thread” on the NaNoWriMo website will be considered when computing the final score.
• After midnight on November 30, the challenge coordinators from each team will drop the highest and lowest scores from their respective counts. They will compute the average score for all remaining competitors.
• The team with the highest word count average will be the winner.
• The challenge coordinators will compare results, and when both coordinators agree, the results will be posted on the NaNo boards.

Trash-talkin’
• Each team will have a clearly labeled “trash talk” thread. The Lushguins trash talk thread will be in the Austin Lounge. Trash talk is to be posted ONLY to the trash talk thread and should remain in good fun and within the bounds of good sportspersonship.

Our God-like powers
• Challenge Coordinators decide what “good sportspersonship” means.
• We reserve the right to remove folks from the competition for any violation of the rules and guidelines listed above.
• We are the final authority in any dispute or question about the rules.

Remember It’s All in Fun
• In the heat of competition, we sometimes forget it’s just a game. If you have a concern or question about anything regarding the competition, please contact your challenge coordinator before you post.

(If you’d like to discuss this further, please post questions or comments to this thread or shoot your challenge coordinator an email or pm.)

So I, Jesina (Heather in real life) am your Challenge Coordinator this year, and you are more than welcome to PM me with any questions, or just post 'em here. A couple things to call attention to:

1) Replying to this thread will not enter you into the Challenge. You can certainly post letting me know that you've emailed, but an email is the only way to actually sign up.

2) We've altered the averages this year. In the past the lowest score was dropped but this year we're dropping the highest score as well. This doesn't mean we don't value those of you who can punch out hundreds of thousands of words; we just want to make sure everyone's encouraged to write up hundreds of thousands of words. We don't want to rely on those high-word-count writers as a crutch.

Questions? Comments?

Thanks, all!

Heather

Once again, good luck to all members of the Maryland team. I no longer reside on Maryland soil (except for maybe a week of November xD) so I can't join in... And I don't think the SF Peninsula group does any wars either =3= You'd think there'd be a lot of people in California doing it, seeing as it's so... big...

Well, I sent my e-mail yesterday, but I'm patient. Got until Tuesday to sign up, anyway.

Where will the final lists for this year be, anyway?

Heh.. When I saw this, I panicked. I was like, "She's supposed to email Jesina, not me!"

And then I realized it's because we're using my domain for sign-up emails.

I'm not crazy... nope. Not me. *twitch*

(Glad to see you AND tide are joining the fray again. :D)

We're up to 27 Marylanders participating this year, though three of those aren't yet official. Please remember the only official way to sign up is by emailing Maryland [at] Flickguy [dot] com.

I've replied to everyone who'd contacted me as of a second ago, so if you haven't heard from me, please resend.

Remember, you can still sign up through November 3

Thanks!!

Do we still have to post on a weird thread or is just the e-mail fun?

EDIT: My email put an extra 'com' at the end of the email address, so hopefully now that I've fixed that, my email went through.

We will have the other thread -- it just makes it easier to see everyone's word count at a glance -- but it won't go up until after tomorrow.

We are currently at 31 participants, and last I checked Texas was at over 40. If you're even thinking about signing up, do it! You can always drop out before November 15 if real life intervenes and you think you aren't where you want to be. So come on!! It's going to be really, really rewarding when we win! It's a great motivator, I promise!!! You want to know how much? Look at last year's tally.

I've replied to everyone who's sent me an email as of about two minutes ago, and below is the current list of participants. If you're not on here and you should be, yell at me.

Okay, I'm not residing "in" Maryland, but my permanent residence is. Does that mean I can help y'all beat the snot out of the Lushguins?
