It breaks my heart that it has to be Chicago.
However, this is not about us, our personal feelings, this is war, people, war!
We let chicago have bragging riights we will have to hear about their win even at next year's NaNoWrimo. They have always been bitter about being called, "second City," beating us at anything will make them impossible.

So, say goodbye to any family you have in Chicago any friends that live there, you have enlisted to fight in an important cause and we cannot tolerate disloyalty and mixed allegences. Make up your mind right now to give it all youv'e got. This is not a parlour game sweethearts, we are not here to play house! They will be tapping their little fingers away trying to take us out, just keep that in mind, stay strong, stay focused, get to write-ins and remember your training.
We will bring Chicago to its knees!

Weirdly, my book is set in Chicago, so this is hilarious to me.

Racheline, my book is set in Chicago too. And my sister, who is doing NaNo, who lives in Chicago, was sort of the inspiration (but I swear, it's not her!) for my mc. And Chicago is my hometown.

We're still gonna grind them into dust!

Haha, how ironic- I'm a comedian, and I'd love to perform in Second City... but Chicago is so going down!!

Chicago must go down! New York City is the only real city in the country and we all know it.

Not to mention they were crowing in their email to their members that their Kickoff party is going to be bigger than ours was. Such hubris must be punished by the Gods.

I am sorry about your sister, you should have sent her some Kleenex before it was too late. Forget her, we are taking her down with the rest of those Windy City nerds lol

Born and raised in Chicago...living in NYC since 2006. I would take Chi-town's side but when comes to Nanowrimo, I take no prisoners. Chicago must be systematically destroyed!

I am a Manhattanite to my toes, but I went to HS in Chi-town and a some UofC and fell in love with the place, so I understand, it is a great city, but the heck with them!

Do they still have Chicago-Fest?

Did they really do that?
How can we allow such ego-waving to go unpunished. Who do they think they are, NYC??

Indeed we did - both mention it, and potentially pull it off depending on how your numbers went.

We rented out an entire restaurant, had a grilled cheese buffet, and had over 100 people in attendance.

So, we talk about how our party was bigger than yours while you try to deify yourselves? Right, it's obviously Chicago with the hubris problem. ;-)

The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will.
--Vince Lombardi

'til now, I have not been keeping up my word count, but I am going to more than make up for it over this weekend by remembering about how much fun shaming Chicago is going to be! Oh and writing a novel in a month.

You almost had me with the grilled cheese buffet, Tim. (*makes mental note to investigate if such things exist in New York*) But we did have pizza at our Kick Off. With olives on it. And we've written a whole lot of words so far!

Uh, our hubris is not a problem for us.

Chicago's bragging is really quite telling.
Here In The City we don't feel the need to carry on about the size of our...Kick-off party, as the good people (and they are) of Chi-Town seem to feel the need to do.

Kiyote--

I hate this, I love Chicago. Having to give the home of the Cubbies what-for is really going to be bitter sweet, mostly sweet, but still some bitter.
