Anyone interested in setting up a small writers group/club? Could meet for NANOWRIMO or even after its finished and share our work and help our fellow novelists out.

Hit me up on msn sinners_fate@hotmail.com if anyone is interested in setting up something. Maybe at the Williams by the Bostons Pizza on Mapleview. I think its called Mapleview now.

Take care all and good luck.

Fred.

Hey!

In the Barrie thread (called "Barrie?") we are talking about a write-in on Tuesday starting at 4 at the Starbucks on Essa (it's in the same plaza as the Shoppers and a Pizza Pizza)

The more the merrier!

I like the idew a writers group/club idea. Be nice if it continued to meet after NaNo' finshed.
It'd help me keep my nose to the grindstone.

Hi Artlady, I'm going to add you as a friend and maybe we can start something. I've been looking for a writers group for the past year just to get out and meet people who enjoy what I enjoy as none of my friends are in to writing or anything creative. We defiantly need to talk about setting up a group. It would be amazing!

And about the write in, i can't do Tuesday I work afternoons, I was thinking maybe something Saturday or Sunday afternoons. But please keep my posts and I'll check the forum for updates.

Have a great day

Fred.

I would love to join the group too. I can't do the Tuesday one as I have to work. If an evening or weekend one is set up I'll be there for sure.

Hi,

Pleased to meet you Fred. I'm Alice

I 'd happy to come out on a Sat or Sunday afternoon. I want to spend as much time with other writers as I can. Let's work out a day and time and meet soon.

Hey everyone,

I'd love to come to a write-in but I also can't do the Tuesday one. Sunday afternoon or evening would be the best time for me. I can do Saturdays too if that's more convenient.

I was thinking maybe something this sunday or next sunday, hell every sunday in november. Say 1pm at wiliams on mapleview? I have msn and my e-mail is sinners_fate@hotmail.com add me. Be easier to arrange something when we can all talk in real time.

And about the writers group, well I say lets create one! Again add me to msn and we can decide what to do after NANOWRIMO. Which by the way would be AWESOME! lol.

Take care all, and happy writing.

I like the idea of a "fixed" date and time for meetings. I mostly suggested tomorrow (4PM, Starbucks on Essa Road) because it was the first day I'm not working all day. :)

So this week we can do Tuesday at the Starbucks, and then after that Sunday at the Williams?

I'm on transit, and living up by the college so I don't think I can make it all the way down to the Williams. Is there any chance of a meeting a bit closer to downtown at some point down the line?

There's always the library. I'm on the south end and I can still be there in 10 minutes. Granted, getting back home is iffy, since I always end up making at least one wrong turn, but on the bright side I now know at least 4 different ways to get to my house from the library. ;)

They're only open 'til 5 on Sundays though.

Well I'd like to see if we can make it so everyone who is interested can make it, and not leave anyone out. I'm up for any location in Barrie, I moved from Barrie back in 2002 so if anyone knows of any other places like the suggested library, or anything else please by all means let us know.

I'm trying to think on what is close to the college. I'd offer you a ride but I know you don't know me and I don't know you so I don't know how interested in that idea you'd be.

And we can always meet earlier at the library, 1pm is just a suggestion we can always modify it as needed. I know the library where i am opens at 1p and closes at 5, four hours of writing is plenty. Where is the starbucks? I guess that would be the one at Chapters?

I'll keep thinking on locations and that and see what we as a group can come up with.

Enjoy your day everyone.

The Starbucks for today's write-in is the one at Essa and Veterans. There's a sbux in Chapters, but it doesn't have much seating at all. I haven't been to the one for today, but I gather that it's roomier. Veterans connects Essa and Mapleview, so if someone can get to the one at Chapters, it's just as easy to get to the other one. I haven't been to Williams, but I'll have to check it out.

I don't really know the area that well yet (I mentioned in the other thread that I just moved from the states a few months ago), so the library is the only thing I really know of downtown.

The library is fairly central. For anyone who has to take transit, it's not far from the bus depot. The best place to meet there is a little hidden place behind the bookshelves near the magazine racks. There's a long table there to gather around. The library has free wi-fi if that helps.

Downtown on Dunlop there is also Casa Cappucino on the corner of Dunlop and Fred Grant St. across the road from the bar The Bank. There is some table seating, about equivalent to the Starbucks at Essa and Veterans but they also have a couple of couches at the back by the fireplace.

Hope this helps.

HI everyone

Did the write in at Starbucks on Tuesday work out ok?

I couldn't comeAt the last minute another obligation popped up and I haven't got bi-location down to a fine art yet.

Is there another one set up? or in the works? Hopefully I'll make this one

I was there, and I met two others who were. Not sure if there was anyone else who was too absorbed in their word count to look up. That Starbucks works pretty well if everyone is intent on writing, but all the tables are two seaters, so if you're trying to procrastinate with some conversation it's a little harder.

There's been some discussion about maybe doing something on Sunday, but nothing definite yet. I think the library is a decent idea, but it depends on how many people are on that end of town, or if the south side is more convenient for those who know for sure they can make it (which I guess goes back to picking a definite day and time). I'm on the south side, so that's great for me, but I also need to return some books to the library, so I'll be making a trip anyway...

Anyone else interested in doing something Sunday afternoon (we can decide on a location after if there are a few people)?

If not, maybe folks could post the days and/or times that work best for them, and we could figure something out from there.

I like the idea of a Sunday afternoon attempt.

Or is there anyone who would like to do a weeknight, say 6 or 7:00?

Well, I need to go to the library anyway, so I'll go ahead and plan to be there on Sunday. They're open from 12-5 on Sundays, and I figure I'll plan on going there at 1 o'clock. That lets everyone get some lunch in them before settling in to write off those calories. ;)

kcstorm mentioned that there's a good spot at a table behind some bookshelves near the magazine racks, so I'll head for there.

The address of the library, in case anyone needs directions, is 60 Worsley Street in Barrie. There is no charge for parking in the lot next to the library (Clapperton and Worsley) on Sundays, so there's enough parking for anyone without worrying about meters.

EDIT: For those that mentioned they're on public transit, the Barrie Bus Terminal at 24 Maple Ave. is 3-4 blocks from the library. Google maps has a function where, after requesting directions (ie: from 24 maple ave to 60 worsley street) you can tell it to give walking directions. It says that going up Clapperton it should be a 7 minute walk, but then it warns you that the walking directions are in beta, and that you should make sure there are actually sidewalks before you try to follow them. Reassuring!

Is there anyone else planning on going to the library. I will try to be there about 1pm myself.

Unfortunately, I can't make it to Barrie tomorrow (although Sunday is generally a good day).

But for those who do, please let us know how it went! It would be much appreciated.

Happy novelling!

Something has come up and I'm not going to be able to make the write-in. We woke up this morning to the strong smell of gas in our house, and I've called out an inspector from Enbridge to see if we have a leak. I was excited about coming, because I've lost a couple of days on writing and needed to catch up, but I guess I'll have to make the next one. :(

I was there. I didn't see anyone else. I did get a couple of hours of uninterupted writing done though.

I hope everything turned out ok for you skbrewer.

Hope to meet some of you at the next write-in.
