for those of you who don't know, i post quotes for people to use/ignore/laugh at or whatever else they can thing of to do with them. last year, the quotes were daily. this year, alas, i a. don't have the time and b. don't spend enough time around drunk people who say amusing things to post a daily quote. i can provide weekly ones, however, and, as always, people should feel free to add their own.
this week's quote is:
I am a lazy drinker: I don't pay attention when I drink and things go down the wrong pipe.
- a member of my co-hort (he was quite serious. we explained to him how the drinking thing worked. i think he understands now. )

so, i went out wednesday with some friends, one of whom is from afghanistan. upon learning that i didn't have a driver's license, he laughed for a good ten minutes straight. one of the most amusing quotes from this fit was:
"My aunt wears a burkha and is not allowed to go anywhere alone, but she has a driver's license, and you're from broolyn and you don't?!?"
it's a good thing i'm used to being laughed at, or i'd have ended up with a complex as hard as he laughed. although, for the rest of the night, i just looked at him and said "burkha" to get him to laugh again.

A pearl of wisdom from my son, when asked why he and his brothers have to fight:
"Oh Mom, it's just our nature. You know. Boys will be boys, girls will be girls, and hermaphrodites will be freaks."

and here's a gem from one of my mormon co-hort members
me: you guys are always trying to reel me in.
mcm: well, you know me.
me: yeah, you claim to be evil. but is it evil to convert people to your religion?
mcm: well, if the person being converted is you, yes.
i'd be upset, if i didn't agree. oh well

he says, "yes, i've worn a dress, i've got two older sisters. but i've never worn a dress because i needed to do laundry."

i've never worn a suit just because i needed to do laundry.
By an ironic coincidence, one of my co-workers just came to work in a suit for exactly that reason.
