Hi All,
I was hoping to possibly connect -- and maybe find some "buddies" -- who are writing with kids around. I'm a homeschooling mom with 2 young kids ages 7 and 3 and would love to share tips, tricks, challenges, and joys of this adventure with the addition of kids in the mix.
Anyone else?

Well, there aren't any kids in the house for me because I am the kid! :)
I would suggest finding the way to get your kids involved, actually. Since I'm 13 and I babysit, I have some of the kids try to come up with a story with me. Younger children (like 7 or 8) can come up with some really great plot twists!
Happy writing,

I think it's awesome that you're writing and involving younger kids! My kids are definitely involved and right now the plan is that I write on my own early in the morning and during their quiet time after lunch and then I transcribe their stories (which are quite hilarious) in the afternoons. However, I'm with my kids 24/7 and taking on NaNoWriMo is something I'm doing as a "me" type of thing (I haven't done anything "grown up" in 7.5 years -- not even seen a movie that isn't rated PG) and my own novel isn't exactly a (young) child-friendly theme so I'd really like to find a way to manage doing it with the little ones around. Basically, by the end of the month the goal is to have my 50k+ novel done as well as the kids' "novella" done which is quite the undertaking given that I have to take care them and the house too (and life just doesn't stop while we do this!).
Very best to you and happy writing!!

Hi,
I am definitely writing with kids in the house. Mine are younger than yours (3 and 1 1/2) and the best time I have to write is while they are sleeping-like now. Unfortunately, that is also the time to do everything else. I am part of an online group www.shewrites.com and have joined a Nanowrimo group there and started a group called Mother Writer! The subject of writing with kids comes up all the time.
I've started writing in a notebook when they are up, at least when ideas strike me that I will probably forget later. But for the main part, I'm usually exhausted when I do get writing time. Is it any easier with older kids? I like to imagine it is.
