Because it's not quite enough to just update one's word count. A little crowing is in order, too.

Off to a good start. Hope the rest of you are, too.

congrats on the progress.

My goal yesterday was 2,500 words and I made 3,062. Today's goal is 1,500 words.

My goal for today is another 3,400 words. But other responsibilities loom, so we shall see.

I was hoping to hit 5000 this morning, and I did. Partly I'm trying to build a little cushion to my 1667-words-per-day goal, because something ALWAYS happens.

Happy writing to all.

I did over 4000 the first day, so that's excellent for me, especially since I'm not the fastest writer in the world. But this went fast because I knew what I wanted to put down and I've got a lot in my head that I can write. When I run out of material, I'm afraid it'll slow way down while I comb the cobwebs of my brain looking for more. But on the up side, I hopefully should have a good word cushion.

Off to a roaring start! 5039 on day one. I see someone else is already ahead of me, must live in an earlier timezone, it's 7:20am here and I just sat down at the computer. My goal is two drafts of 50-70k this month. I may not have time to do that, but I like to set a high bar. And I like having a lot of words piled up early to give a nice cushion later.

The rest of you are doing great too, let's keep it up, show what a bunch of geezers can do.

I attempt to get 2-3000 a day right now - time permitting! So far - so good, keeping to schedule. During the weekdays might not depending on how the work day goes...and time available to just WRITE!

Keep on keeping on! write! right! :)

Wow. You people who can whip out 5,000 words a day leave me in awe. I have to stop and figure out where the plot thread is going next. What the heck, when in doubt, toss in another murder victim...

My modest goal is 2000 words/day. If I get more, terrific but 2000 for me is a sustainable goal so I'm happy with my first day's writing. Haven't started today (living in Alaska puts me behind most of you!) but may try and swing by today's write-in in Anchorage later this afternoon after a meeting I have in town. I wrote my prologue so that seemed like a good place to stop. Today I start chapter one. Good luck to all of you! :-)

Dropped in a lot of conversation, but at least it's moving.

I'm doing nano rebel this year. I'm working on a story that I had dropped when i had hit the difficult part. I'm thinking that finishing it as a nano will force me through the stuck stages. So far, it's working.

I'm the tortoise, going for 2000 words per day. I may have a spurt at some point, but that would have to be after I find out exactly who these people are and what they're going to do.

I was a tad short of goal yesterday but made it up today. Some things I just have to go back and edit though, or it won't make sense. I also realized I needed more side characters and had to stop and invent them!

I did the 10K-words-on-first-day challenge and I won! Woot, woot!

I began at five minutes past midnight on November 1st and wrote in about four sessions throughout the day. I ended at about eight minutes before midnight yesterday! Now, since I'm ahead, word-count wise, I plan to leisurely write for only two or three hours each night this week. It sure is less stressful doing those 10K weekend spurts when you also work a full-time job, but I've loving the excitement of NaNo this year.

I've slowed way down today -- only about 650 words so far. But the second chapter is finished, It was a harder slog than I anticipated because it had to set up a lot of foreshadowing. And it was also rather gloomy. Maybe chapter three will perk me back up.

I managed to write 584 words during my lunch hour. And most of that was spent clarifing and changing a few things from yesterdays write. Woke up several times last night with ideas and thoughts, so tried to fit those in. I guess that is kinda editing, but I think it will make the story continue on it's path better. I hope to write a few more hundred tonight. Want to stay above the word count if I can. Right now only 152 words into tomorrow's quota. Cutting it close. I hate the feeling of being behind. But it happens every year.

I've written nearly 4200 words in the past couple of days, and each time I sit down I get worried that nothing is going to come out, but I guess I am doing okay so far. Will I have anything to write about over the next few day?? My nerves are on edge, I tell ya!

I had a quick start, but I knew my set-up. Now the hard works begins. Only about 500 words today so far, but haven't really concentrated yet. will start in earnest in an hour and not go to sleep until I've hit 2500--there are 6 days this month when i will not be able to write at all, so I have to make up for the lost days somehow!

Good luck everyone!

I'm a little behind some of you and a LOT behind others, but I'm feeling pretty happy with my 1700 odd words (as long as I don't look at them too closely). Words on a page. Can't beat 'em with a stick, really, can you?

Saturday I suddenly decided to do two novels. One of them is going to be 50K at least, so I'm not a rebel. Started at midnight Nov. 1 which proved to be a bit of strain. I wanted to do 1K , which took me a little more than an hour. Sunday went fine and today even better.

Good luck to everyone! I believe in all of you, but I also know the muse can be fickle. Don't give up, you can do it!

I'm lucky this year - had an outline and 20 + chapters planned going in.
Why is that lucky?

Because I can jump in anywhere along my intended route and write there for a bit.

Being non-linear that waywill come in real handy if I fall into feeling stuck, which is the worst so soon in the month.

Here it is Day two and I plan to get in another 800 or so words by tonight,
to bring me up to 5K or more.

Have fun everyone.

I was going to blaze out 5 or 6000 words yesterday and instead I went to a play. I made my count - I'm laying back - I'm chilling - I'm procrastinating - I'm making my banner.

Looks like I might need that word cushion sooner than I expected. I haven't even started today. I had to put out some brush fires. And I forgot that tomorrow I have jury duty, which means instead of going to bed around dawn, I have to be out at a cold bus stop waiting for a bus to the far south suburbs.

Correct that. Before dawn.

I'll catch up. But this is annoying.

I'm barely staying in front of the daily goal but a couple of things conspired to keep me away from my computer during parts of the day I had planned to be slogging away. We have a write-in tomorrow at the library and I'm hoping to spend about 3 hours there. That should get me a bit over tomorrow's goal and I'll still have all evening to get a little ahead. At this point, assuming I continue with the general number of words per day that I'm currently writing (there's a convoluted chunk of words), I'll finish on November 28. Here's hoping I get a little more cushion--that's not much.

One thing I've struggled with a bit--OK, more than a bit--is that part of my steadily increasing disability is having words disappear on me. I know the word I want to use and it simply won't come close enough to the surface of my brain to capture it. My doctor says things like, "as we get older we all start having trouble remembering things." Of course! I just don't think it's supposed to be 10-15 times an hour. At any rate, it's a bit more of a challenge to write than it once was. It takes 2-3 time longer since I have to sit quietly to come up with a semi-suitable substitute to use as a placeholder. I've learned to put brackets around the "wrong" word so I can simply scan the manuscript to see if I can find more precise words. It's a lesson in patience and being gentle with myself.

Rather than my rather lofty goal of 75,000 words, I've decided I'll be happy with what I get and the goal will be 50,000. I'm counting on always having been an over-achiever to help me move beyond that.

I'm seriously impressed with the word counts I'm seeing here. Go get 'em tigers!

I'm hoping to do two as well, depending on what life throws me. Off to a good start with 5k Sunday and almost 4k today. My inner editor keeps sneaking up and whispering that it's all going to get cut on revision, but I tell him tough titties, it's words, that's what counts. If I keep writing long enough, there'll be something to keep in there somewhere.

I just feel happy that I actually started writing on November 1 this year. That may be a first for me! Also, I'm two days in, and for the first time in my NaNo-writing history, I'm not behind. Will it last? I have no idea.

I hear you Beth. I didn't do any writing yesterday. Long tiring day at work where the computer gods conspired against me. I aim to get to 5000 by the end of today.

I didn't make quota today. Damn. It's a good thing I had that word cushion from yesterday. And tomorrow, between jury duty and being exhausted, I probably won't get in a lot of words then, either.

I had to drag myself out of bed this morning, after coming home from work yesterday to work some more last night. Last week was crazy, and it was a busy weekend, so I haven't caught up on rest, nor does it appear likely this week.

I'm doing this as a lark, as a challenge, as a way to get myself to do some writing that I wouldn't do on my own. I tell myself once I get to the computer it will be fun to see what these folks are going to do next and to be amazed at the things that come out of their mouths.

And I keep telling myself, Just get in 1667 words, BUT if you want to do a few more, it would be good to have a cushion, and the marvel is that I still do.

Let's all just keep those words coming. Just sit down and write, every day this month. See what happens.

This is my first attempt. I have committed to 2,000 words a day and so far so good. I'm at over 5,000 and it's only 8am on day 3. It's fun watching myself write really poorly but heh it keeps the word count high. I am attempting to get the complete story line down for a novel that I've been wanting to write forever!
