My three knights are presently holed up in a roadside inn with a cleric whose friend has missed a rendezvous by three days. It's raining heavily outside. There's rabbit pie for dinner. And I haven't managed to make anyone break a leg yet.

Rain and Mina are on a train to the First Progenitor Assembly of Teihard de Chardin to investigage rumours of embezzlement, corruption and murder. The Assembly believes that one day we can all be reborn in a perfect world when AOM (the Alpha and Omega Machine) is built, and only the true believers will be reborn with godlike powers in this matrix, according to the prophet Telhard de Chardin and those who followed him.
The Assembly's first speaker is currently the spokesperson for the Progenitor movement in a theological dispute with the Regenitors, who believe that we have all already died and have been reborn in this matrix, and it is only when we die that AOM will award points. True believers end up in a state of eternal bliss, while nonbelievers will spend eternity being tortured.
Now, obviously this is a ridiculous scenario that has nothing to do with real life, and of course no real religion would schism so many times that you have about twenty mainstream denominations, including those with names like Worshippers of Deus Ex Machina and Noogenesis NOW! (both capital letters and the exclamation mark are part of the name.)
