Hi folks,
Happy Nano day two! Yesterday my husband and I hosted a (Smaller) write in than the one in the city. We had anticipated a smaller turn out but this was way more intimate then one could have imagined. Now, I realize that we are in the South end of Brooklyn and nobody lives here let alone writes here but we did have a few people sound like they were committed to coming.
We did have to switch hard sites a few days before Sunday, but had a place set before end of business Friday.
As this was our first attempt to host a write-in we weren't sure what to expect, with regard to roadblocks, setbacks, or turn out for outer borough write-ins.
Anyway, we did have one brave soul come out yesterday. Wiccin hot joined us for an afternoon of writing, noshing and sharing ideas
Collectively when all was said, written and done we'd written close to 15000 worth of story and multiple pages of outline and or back story each.
We learned a lot and would love to give it another try at hosting. The site is spacious with good ventilation, outlets and a soda machine down the hall.
We'll be seeing you at other write-ins and look forward to writing along side all of you.

Aww, if it was public-trans-accessible and I was not broke I would have come, long-distance or not. :(

:( I feel so bad for letting you down. The last few days have been crazy. I'll be lucky if I make it to *any* write-ups this week. If you have another near the subway, I'll definitely try to make it.

Aw, Liza,
Life happens. We all do the best we can. The new venue is near two train stations and several buses. We are looking at having another write-in at the same location the weekend before Thanksgiving. Here is all the information about location and what they do and down have.
It is not the Diner, but a place with room for us. It's in an apartment building. This is a building for the "Elderly" and the disabled. There may be old people sitting out front and in the lobby proper.
It is not, repeat not a Nursing home!
Also, they are more than likely to be asked by security to sign in and even possibly who are they there to see. This is normal for the protection and privacy for the place.
I take art classes in that room. There are two long tables with generous seating and yes, this place does have outlets for laptops. (However, and we only found this out because Wiccin brought her laptop. The building does not support highspeed.
We will hold the write-in on the ground floor. Here is the address, 161 Corbin Place. It is conveniently located for the B49, B1, & the B68. The trains are the N and the F. The stations closest to the site are the Sheepshead Bay Train station and the Brighton Beach station. We will meet from 2-6. I am getting the room straighten out as I write this. It will hopefully be on the calendar for this weekend. If I can get it in, in time.
There is a soda machine in the lobby and we will get some snacks kosher snacks again. We got two types of Humus this time My first thought when we were packing up on Sunday was... ' I know have lunch for the nest three days,' LOL
PS. Would it be OK to add you to my writing buddy list?
Julie

because i am a horrible person, the first thing i thought when i read this was "what happens to a write-in unattended, does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?"

Ha! Great pla/movie btw! I can't speak for all those "Other," write-in hostie wannabe's but I can say here it meant about 5 minuets of playing it's my party and I'll cry if I want to ... cry if I want. You would cry too, if it happened to you. Hence the new topic you responded to on this board.
Then I had a caramel cappuccino and I'm off and typing and feeling much beta! Even thinking of trying to put together another Write-in. Hey, we each wrote over 1000 words. Not too shabby. Not to mention the conversation that helped fill in gaps and back story!
PS. Love your SIG!
