Let's be the group with the largest number of halos by our names. If you haven't donated yet, send something in. Let's keep those lights on in the Office of Letters and Lights.

Unfortunately, it's all I can do to keep the lights on at my house. I won't be donating this year.

I'll be joining you as soon as I get paid... I think it's important and try to give at least as much as I spend of coffee in November.

Has anyone tried sponsorship? I never think if it until part way through November... by then I don't want to talk to anyone.... just want to write.

Besides, doesn't a 'halo' come with a '50k or your money back' guarantee?

;-)

I don't even have money for November or December's rent,
nor $$ for cat food (a friend brought over a big bag, donated for the cats) , or me food (but I can stand to lose some weight), or my other bills.....

Some of us are just unemployed, no income even from unemployment, or from family, and are just plain out - flat broke.
I don't run my heat because I don't want to up the bill and have the service cut.

This challenge is not doable from my end, and I'm sure there are plenty others like me.

Don't be too hard on pushing this goal as a group - some of us are not on the end to make it happen.

Donate what I spend on Coffee during the month? That assumes I have the funds even for something as simple as coffee during the month.
What some see as the simple things, ( like this idea of this thread) even those things are far beyond the grasp of some others this year.
Things (and life) truly are that hard this year.

I clearly understand that donation may be impossible for some people; I intended this simply as a prod for those who can and just haven't gotten around to it yet, which I also understand.

I have reduced the quality of the food that I eat so that I'm sure to have enough kibble for the cats. And where before they got Purina One or Iams, now they get the cheapest brand cat food and like it. They seem healthy and happy. Myself, I don't much care for weiners, but there you go.

I'm trying to wear the warmest clothes I can stand inside so I don't have to have my space heaters too high, but if it gets too cold, I can't sleep. I just huddle up and shiver. Many a time I've woken up to find that the house temperature has fallen down to 51. The cats are good heat sources, though. And good friends.

Coffee money? Who can afford coffee money, these days?

Yes, I feel very guilty that I'm not donating, but I'm trying to trim down nearly to the bone, hoping that I can ride out this rough patch.

I've been working at trying to get my halo all week. It seems when I opted out of the merchandise it cause a problem/delay in applying my halo. I've finally been told by TPTB that I will be getting it.

I donated early on, but sent my contribution directly to their Paypal address, so no halo.

If you contact the store (https://store.lettersandlight.org/contact-us/contact-us) and reference your Order No. they will get you hooked up with a halo, no matter how you paid. It may take them a little longer to verify the pay-pal payment, but you don't have to go halo-less.

Thanks Dichotomy, but it's not worth the trouble. I did suggest to Tim that they set it up so that people can get their halo no matter how they choose to pay. He said he'd pass it on. Maybe next year.

I also decided that IF I finish my novel, and IF it gets published, I'll thank OLL with a nice healthy donation. (Of course, I'm certain to get at least a $50,000 advance. Yeah right. Dream on)

I've noticed that for the last two years ('07 and '08), by the end of November the Geezer threads have the highest density of halos in the forums. That's an empirical observation, mind, without any statistics to back it up.

Those of us who can give do so. And like the Public Radio model this whole thing is based on, the money given helps cover for those who can't.

I am glad for the challenge because I tend to procrastinate, though I had already decided to donate, just haven't been online and where my credit card was at a convenient time yet.

That said, to ya'll you can't donate, I wouldn't feel bad at all. I doubt that most writers here would think poorly of those that don't anyway. Most of us have to be fairly empathetic I would think to write....

I've been in your shoes before, not enough money to go where it needs to - and come retirement, I may be again. It's not fun, but it is nothing to feel guilty over. It just is what it is. What is important is getting our words out of our heads and onto paper (or computer) - where they belong. : )

And if I haven't donated in the next few days, someone nudge me, please. I need nudging at times.

I was having that problem too - and even went so far as to email them twice...then my brain kicked into gear and I figured out why I didn't have my halo yet - I hadn't told them who I was in the NaNo world. So I sent them a copy of my thank-you notice, included my order number and real name and then told them who I was in NaNo world. Once I did that, I had my halo later that day.

I am waiting for my halo after sending in a check about a week ago, on Halloween actually. So, this geezer did her part!

This is the first year I have been able to donate .I really do understand that it is not easy to do this so no one should feel obligated to donate.Yes it helps others but it is voluntary and no one would expect you to go hungry to donate. God BLess and lets hope that this time next year will be better for all of us.

I would like to donate, especially now that the euro - dollar exchange rate is very favorable for us Europeans. I would have done so weeks ago, if I weren't in a dead lock situation with PayPal and my phone company (it's complicated). The only way out is to change my phone line to cable or convince my bank to give me a credit card with a 100 euro limit. Option no. 1 will take 8 months, option no. 2, .... probably several weeks if it works.

But I will get a halo before the next NaNo starts, no matter what. I will.

I also fall in to the category of not working this year so have no income to be able to donate. I'm not as badly off as some as my husband has a pension but I can't use that for a donation. I hope to go back to work next year, so maybe then.
