I have just decided what I am going to write about. Unfortunately the beginning is set in Havana, Cuba circa 1888 - 1900.
If anybody knows anything about the place and time or has ideas where I could get such info I would be very grateful.
Yours desperately, Jacparov.

I know a fair bit about Cuba (granted it's more about the Revolution and Castro and Batista and all of that), so I'll try to help you :)
Around the turn of the 20th century, there was the Spanish-American war which was (lol) between Spain and the United States and during that war, Cuba declared its independence (and had a lot of famous independence figures such as Jose Marti). Spain of course lost the war and therefore lost Cuba and Cuba was "independent" in name only really, because the US had this little thing called the Platt Amendment (created in 1899) that basically said that the US could interfere in Cuban affairs whenever they wanted (which, to make a very long story short, is one of the reasons the Revolution happened).
But mainly, around the late 19th century/early 20th century, it was the Spanish-American War and the Cuban struggle for independence.
