Hi,
Can anyone with a medical background or family experience tell me what an older person would expect from an ER visit after a fall that results in a break? Are the majority of breaks that require surgery immediately visible on X-ray? [I broke my hip a few years ago, but it was only immediately visible on MRI and then on Xray 6 weeks later when calcification started.]
Thanks,
Mary

Can't tell you much about the x-ray, but I would bet that a large part of it is dependent on the type of fracture or how bad that fracture is.
Other than that, the most I can really tell you is that when EMTs would transport them, they'd mostly just move her in ways that are most comfortable for her, and possible create a "pelvic girdle splint" - essentially a sheet wrapped around their entire pelvis, just to help stabilize it during transport/moving/lifting the patient. That would help prevent further damage/bleeding, and hopefully reduce the considerable pain.
