you're listening to a song, and all of a sudden it IS the scene you're writing, and pretty much a character's theme song. and trumpets are literally blaring as your character, freshly given the chance to express their POV realizes their purpose and resolves to let nothing stop them from achieving it?

I have yet to find a single song that resonates with any of my characters when it comes to this particular novel, but it's happened in other novels I've written.

I was writing one scene where my boys were in the van, listening to Metallica's Black album as they were driving between gigs. Somehow, my MC announced that the last song was his favourite, and when I listened to it, it was so very perfect for what he's going through right now in the story. I had to put a couple of lines in . . . they'll probably have to come out when I rewrite. Any other band might let it slide, but I don't feel like having Metallica's lawyers on my back!
