It occurred to me a little earlier tonight that there might be some of us that have their own personal goals that they wish to complete during November aside from the obligatory 50k worth of words.

Mine, started off simply being the accomplishment of 50k words, as it is every year, since I first began doing Nanowrimo in 2005. But sometime during Day #2 after finishing Day #1 with 5000 words to my name, I decided I might try and make a go of attempting 5k words each day until I hit 50k. And continue on with that goal as long as the plot holds. Depending on whether I or the plot burn out first, will dertermine if I can keep up the 5k per day for 30 days... but I will give it my best shot.

Okay, any other masochistic Perthies out there?

Well, 50 000 is masochistic enough for me! You could set yourself a word counter to put in your sig, that counts up to 150K or whatever you like. It's in the widgets (but it wasn't working when I tried it last night).

100k. I think I'll be okay as I'm managing at least 4k a day at the moment, and I'm still working - I'm hoping that it will become less of a chore and strain next week when I finish up. Mind you, then I'll have the chore and strain of finding another job LOL

But seriously, I think this one's got legs and I mean to chase it down :)

It is my hope simply to be able to sit down and write /something/. My computer died three hours before the start of Nanowrimo on Saturday night, and while I attempted to use my iPhone to write, it took several minutes just to get to 17 words, and so I gave up. The computer will be back up and running tonight, after a complete rebuild, and I'll be writing as soon as the kids are in bed. Probably end up as the all nighter I had planned for Saturday night, but we'll see.
Beyond that....
Well, most years I average around 11-12000 words before my plots go awry and work interferes. This year work will not be interfering as I'm now in a position without any afterhours requirements (got to love not being on call!). This year I'm going to hit the 50000 and then just continue writing until the novel is finished.
Neil

What a horror story, Neil! I hope that you can catch up! All power and writerly thoughts to you for a big night of 8k or so (or more, if you want!) tonight! :)

Good Luck Neil, thankfully it's still early days and you have plenty of time to catch up.

My thanks, I appreciate that. I'm hoping that the work that I had been doing on character devlopment when the video card blew up is sitting in Word's temporary files somewhere, and will pop up and ask me if I want to use it.. :)
If not, then I'll do a Steven King and just sit down and write and let the story come to me as it appears on the page...

My personal goal is to stay ahead of the quota by more words every night. TO achieve this, I simply need to write more than 1,667 words a day, but I aim for about 2000. I'm behind this goal (still ahead of quota), evidently, but exam study is killing me.

Well I'm happy to report that after rebuilding my computer (new graphics card, case and power supply) plus a nice new BIG monitor, the stuff I was working on when the computer crashed is still there, as I'd assumed it would be.
I've managed to make a start, and I'm now on target to complete my 50k words.. ;) Will update at the end of tonight. Alas, we're off to the in-laws for dinner to meet father-in-law's new gf, so no writing until late..

Today my own personal goal is to reach 20k. I've been averaging about 4000 words a day, which is good because I've also been working (actually, let me rephrase that - I've been AT work, the working thing is being negotiated right now lol) So I don't think I'll have too hard a problem getting there, but I wanted to put it out there so that I wouldn't be tempted to slack off lol

Nice going! Yeah, got the same situation about work :D but I'm still getting over 4k a day, like you, so I'm happy with how it's going. I might have to up the ante next week - 4k will hardly seem like a challenge!

My personal goal now is to basically see how much of my novel I can write before November ends, since I have now won and the rest is purely for fun :D I would love to finish the novel but am not sure that will happen. I'll just try my best :)
