So, I was at a write-in last. We were all gathered at a coffee shop with our laptops. The woman next to me booted her ancient looking machine. Windows XP crawled along lethargically, deciding whether or not to boot. After a significant amount of time, it started. She double clicked on her Word document and then went to get coffee. When Word finally loaded, Clippy came up and offered sagely advice about something.

I was hurting the entire. I desperately want to wipe her hard drive and install Linux.

Does that seem weird? Should I say something?

oof. This happens to me all the time. My dad insists on using an old laptop from, oh, right when the "vista capable" stickers started rolling out on laptops. This computer runs an AMD sempron, and 256 MB of RAM (NOT vista capable) I keep telling him to install X/K/Ubuntu on it, but he won't listen...

If it's life without walls, why do we need Windows and Gates?

This is why I always carry around a bootable flash drive with xubuntu installed. Before I got my current netbook, xubuntu turned my old 2003 Dell from a crawling clunker to a perfectly usable though still heavy laptop. With my bootable flash drive, I can show that to people on their own hardware without even needing to make any changes.

I don't worry about other people's laptops. If they wanted to change it, they would. Maybe it's working out for them. I only worry about my laptop. If it's not working out for me, I have to change it.

My laptop is a bit like that. It doesn't help that my son filled it up with crap and I had to spend several hours last week clearing it out. I don't wanna install linux though. I'm happy with my Windows XP. (The comp is a Toshiba with an Intel 1.7ghz processor, 512mb of ram and a 40gb HDD)

Not that I'm using it for NaNo though. I'm using a notebook and my normal comp for that, but it's there if I need it. (My hubby's laptop is MUCH MUCH older - it's a p120 with windows 95. He can't run it anymore because the CMOS battery has died and he can't locate it to replace it. XD)
