I met Elizabeth at the DC kickoff and have not been able to figure out who she is here on NaNo. Are you out there?

That would probably be me. Short hair, easily distracted, talks a lot without saying very much that could be considered useful? *g*

I am clearly much more mysterious than I give myself credit for. Either that, or I totally flaked on telling people my forum name. Probably that one, now that I think about it. I know I wrote it on the nametag, but after that I sort of forgot to bring it up again.

Nah, I just wasn't being very observant. I saw that everyone had user names on their tags, but didn't really take much notice.
Hope your writing is going well!

*g* Don't start, okay? I was MINGLING. It's what we're supposed to do. Not my fault I'm such utter crap at introducing myself to people.
Well, okay, technically it IS my fault, but you can't say you're surprised, Kay.

This started out reminiscent of that movie several years ago where a guy meets a gal on the subway and she flashes her phone number to him as the train pulls away. Then the guy spends the rest of the movie finding the gal whose number he flubbed on. It was a great romantic flick that reminded me a lot of "Sleeples in Seatle" as far as great plot with good romantic interest and quality writing.
Now, however, it is degenerating into just another faux pas at a social gathering.
Can't we go back to the nice romantic connection and skip all the other stuff? Two people enjoyed talking to each other at the meet-up and, regardless of the reason, had an interesting time reconnecting later. Let's enjoy the sweetness of the situation and quit analyzing what caused it in the first place. Quit spoiling a nice thing by dissecting it to death. It was an interesting situation that was resolved in a strikingly romantic way that shows real life can provide the inspiration from which great romantic stories can come. Period.

Uhhh... not to be overly analytical, but I should probably mention that I'm an old married dude who pretty much just enjoyed talking with Elizabeth and wanted to put her as a writing buddy. So, like, no romance. Sorry. But it might be good for someone's novel!

Now I feel like we've been disappointingly mundane. Then again, given that my husband was actually AT the kickoff party, there's no other way it could have gone. *g*
Still, it would make an interesting anecdote for someone else's novel. Not mine, since at the moment everyone in mine is scheduled to be dead at the end. *shrugs*

Ha! One of my main characters dies at the start of mine! He basically ends up being as close to a protagonist as my book has.

Now to turn all of this into 18th century dialogue and add a pirate.

1. Nothing spices up a novel like a dead protagonist. Or something like that.
2. Ninja pirates, Kay. Every good story REQUIRES ninja pirates. Or pirate ninjas, I suppose. Maybe THAT'S why I'm having so much trouble getting my characters to do anything interesting.

It seems my remarks about how romantic this thread seemed to be, in spite of the fact that it was just concerning an innocent conversation at a chance meeting, has ended up becoming quite an item.
Has anyone considered trying to revive one of last year's challenges to make your novel more awesome by including Tim Mitchell as a way to make things go better? Accoriding to Tim ( a.k.a Hero ), including him in your novel boosts the awesomeness of your writing considerably. I don't know how it stacks up against the ninja pirates and the pirate ninjas, but I would assume it is close.
The advantage of using Tim Mitchell is his being much more multiversatile and, therefore, more functionable. According to last year's challenge, you could use him in any way that fit the story.
