Hey Everyone,
My name is Drew and I am a writer who lives in Thornton. I am currently going to school for writing and hope to one day teach writing at the college level (though this is a long ways away yet). In the mean time I want to create a group of writers, about 6-8 people who could meet 2-4 times a month on Sunday's, the time being flexible of course. I have a great business center with a large boardroom style table that the group could begin meeting at, we could of course, change where we meet and when but it is a start.
I want the focus of these get togethers to be focused mainly on the craft of fiction with some poetry from time to time. I want this group to be a friendly place to share work, trade ideas and discuss our craft of writing. I hope that this post stirs a lot of interest and assuming it does, it would be great if everyone sending me an email would include what they want get from the group and what they think they can contribute to the writers who will be joining them. I appreciate everyone taking the time to read and respond and best of luck in your NaNoWriMo pursuits.
My email is mrhaus@gmail.com. I would prefer an email over a post to this thread but I will check back to see if people replied.
Cheers everyone,
Drew

Hi Drew!
I'm responding here instead of emailing you, because I want my answer to be public! :D
I wish you the best of luck with starting this group. It's not easy to start and maintain a writer's group, but it can be a very positive experience. Critiquing other people's work can really improve your own writing as well as theirs, and as NaNo itself demonstrates, support is very helpful!
In case you don't get much response, or in case you'd rather join an established group, please be aware that the Denver Fiction Writers group already meets during the time slot you suggest on Sundays. We have mostly dealt with fiction so far, but would be perfectly delighted to add poetry as well.
Our format is to maintain a Yahoo group wherein we post our work, then everyone can read and critique and bring a written critique to meetings, where we discuss face to face. We meet weekly on Sundays at 3 pm at the Stapleton Panera Bread on Quebec and I-70. You can find our website at http://www.denverfictionwriters.com
Not coincidentally, you will find that there is a write-in scheduled at that time and place every Sunday this month. We've simply turned our usual meetings into write-ins, and if you're interested, please join us and see what you think!
Either way, I wish you all success!
Kathleen

Thank you for posting about DFW.
I visited your website a few days ago and noticed that the main page had not been updated in a while so I kind of disregarded it as being inactive.
I am certainly interested in joining your group long term, I hope you do not mind me asking a few questions?
How many people are in the group?
What is the goal of each meeting as well as long term?
What do you expect from members?
Finally, what is the yahoo group information?
Thank you kindly,
Drew

Hi Drew!
The website is fairly new so we havn't post much.
Currently we have six members. We expect folks to be writing. Minimum 1000 words a week. Which can be taken out in critiques if you're stuck. Stories are posted to the file section of the yahoo site in usually between Wednesday and Friday.
Each meeting we bring written critiques and discuss pieces verbally. Goal for members is publication. Most of us are published in some form or other though only one of us has published novels.
We ask that you come to a meeting before we sign you up for the yahoo group, which is closed (you can't get to it until you are signed up) so that we don't cross publication rules. We've suspended critiques until December because of NaNo and three of us are MLs for NaNo.
Where are you getting your writing degree?

Thanks for the quick response. I am currently going to Front Range and have plans to transfer after a couple of semesters.
I would enjoy joining the group, I will not be able to this weekend but I will be free next Sunday. It works out well, a nice warm up before the 10 hour Write-in on the 16th. Let me know if there is anything I need to know or bring for next Sunday's meeting.
Thank you.

What Michelle said.
It hadn't occurred to me that our website makes us look inactive. We will consider that a priority after NaNo. Thanks for the heads up on that. :)
No need to bring anything to the meetings on Sundays except willingness to work and get to know us!
Hope to see you there,
Kathleen
