I realized this morning as I huddled over my laptop making my new goal calendar that I'm probably a bit obsessed with being organized - because I'm not naturally an organized person and unless I do something about the disorganization I'll never get anything done. Am I making sense? I hope so. I'm not much to myself. So far I have a binder all neatly organized of stuff, notes, maps, and whatnot that I've done so far, but I think the icing on the cake was when I made the calendar this morning....

Okay - time to do, like, work!

Cid -

That's so cute! I LOVE it! I had one of those up on my desktop, but then it got so busy that I couldn't ever find the stuff on my desktop screen lol. Great job!

And yes, I'm SUCH an organizer. I think I spent 5 hours just making my word count spreadsheet and then I used one my friend made because it was cuter lol.

You should see my bulletin board. If I was home right now, I'd take a pic.

Very cute! I like it!

My obsessive organization takes a slightly different form. I have both a "plot and characters" file which I keep adding to and tweaking, and also a "journal about the novel" file, which is meant to be my daily notes, thoughts and feelings, and the random stuff I keep thinking. The "plot and characters" file is SUPPOSED to be more organized, the "daily notes" file is supposed to be more freeform, but in reality, they are both pretty freeform and I keep tweaking them and trying to get them to make sense. Ugh!

Okay. I'm not that bad. I do have a brown accordion pleated file folder Containing my notes (several legal sheets worth of plot outlines, story notes, and character bios), a hand drawn map of the sector I'm writing about, A more detailed version of the timeline for the universe I'm writing in, a printed copy of everything I'd written so far (for reference on those hand writing nights at Borders), the NaNo word calender, the various hand outs from the Kick Off, 2 blank yellow pads for hand writing, another yellow pad with notes on it, and 3 ink pens, because I live in accordance withe Murphy's Law: If I have only one pen, it will run out of ink 5 minutes after I start writing.

I'm not obsessively organized, but I will admit to staying up till 3 am making pre-visualization concept drawings for a star-fighter in my novel. :P

Teeheehee - oh - and I have fallen in love with yWriter - can't recall who suggested it for me but I <3 them! I love how it puts my whole binder into one nice, neat place I can click through. I also print it all out and yeah....I so need to get to doing something - it's almost 10:30am.....

I am organized like that because I am attempting a fantasy novel. I need maps to tell me where my characters are going, notes to remind me what they look like, and what Dactyls really are. I have a calendar, and yes, I did do a detailed map of the city where most of the action takes place to help me figure out if he was standing here, or looking out this window, would he have seen this happen? type thing. I used to work for star trek conventions and learned that yes, there are really people who pay attention to those things.

I also am a pretty big outliner. I outline the plot, then each scene before I actually write it. Sometimes the characters suprise me and wont do what I think they are going to do, but for the most part, I keep everything in notes.

Dude! I downloaded it thinking, "Yeah, okay, whatever." Uhm, no. It's AMAZING. It's an organizer's wet dream. I am in love with it. I don't write my novel into it, but I copy and paste it from Word when a chapter is done. I have all my notes, character pictures, timelines, everything. I love it!

You've seen my folder with the outlines and the pockets and the calendars and dividers. On my laptop I have another calender, a report card on excel, and I have been trying to update word count right before midnight every day so my full day count is reflected on the website. I'm obsessive compulsive when it comes to pretty much everything organization related. Sometimes I frustrate myself because I will stop what I'm doing if something looks out of place somewhere.

yWriter has cured my obsessiveness with purchasing cute/neat/inspiring notebooks and journals. Before i came to the light and started 'writing' on a computer, I would write with a pencil and the flavor-of-the-week notebook. Organization was a bitch!

My mini laptop with yWriter (and yEdit) installed makes everything neat and clean and my OCD over organization is satisfied. :) And don't worry, I backup my files each time I'm finished writing a section on my flash drive and upload the backups onto my desktop at home.
