I joined the 20K club this afternoon about 5:45pm, with 20,007 and almost 5.5 hours to go until midnight. Last year, I didn't make the 20K club until the 6th day, with a total of 20,737 at midnight going into the 7th. I've shaved about 30 hours off my best time so far. For perspective, in 2007, I didn't hit 20,000 until day 19. in 2008, I hit 50,000 on day 19. This year... I might have my 50K in the bank on or by the NOWD.

Not here to brag about it, merely to provide inspiration to those who are bogged down in the plot moors and the pitfall traps.

It might seem difficult, and it might seem impossible. You're ready to give up. Don't. You can do it! 2007 I was only at 15,215 at the end of the 15th. I was almost exactly 10K behind pace. Things started falling into place in my novel, and every time a piece fit into the puzzle, I felt compelled to keep working on another piece. Before I knew it, I'd crossed the 50K Line on the afternoon of the 28th, and still had story to write!

The first 10K words always seem the hardest to write and go the slowest. It always looks the worst before you turn the corner and start onto that slippery downhill slope where the word count starts piling up faster and faster.

Keep Writing!

I say brag away! That is awesome! Good for you!

I'm almost at 20K... might hit it yet tonight, but probably not until tomorrow because I'm getting tired. I took the challenge of writing 10K on the first day of NaNo. That is what has helped me to be so far ahead this year.

Again, congrats and brag away! LOL

Congrats, Derek! I'll be along in a few days :D If not sooner. I'm obviously not going at the pace I hoped to be going at, but I'm at least just under the 75K pace, so I am stretching myself. A NOWD and maybe a FLASY just might be what I need to get to 100K :D We'll see. And the 30th falls on a Monday this year, which is usually a very good day for me to ask off, since I generally don't loose as much money asking off on a Monday than I do any other day of the week. Generally :D So, if I get it off, I should be able to write most of that day. I'll leave the house as if I was going to work if I have to! Hopefully, I can get between 75K and 100K by the end.

Either way, I'll see you at the finish line!

I'm in.

The first 10k was easy as pie.

The second 10k was not so easy, but still not so bad.

Now things are getting hard. I'm having to chain myself to the desk, eat Kit Kats all day, and listen to the same song over and over again. I am starting to lose it.

I have definately hit a pitfall, but that is more due to scheduling conflicts with work. I'm not writing as much in the early morning hours like I had planned, but when I take a lunch later that day, my brain is on fire! But the days I have stupid meetings scheduled over my lunch, alas, no high-speed writing for me.

I'm actually considering taking off early today to go park myself at a starbuck's somewhere.

Shoot, I was about to call it a night when I noted this thread. Man, I know I'm going to write those 700-something more words. I'll post very soon to let the world know!

Woot! There we go!

I don't think I've ever reached 20k sooo early! Usually I'm at least 10 days into it or so, maybe more... I really don't remember. But this is awesome and I am pumped and happy and and and... okay, no more sugar tonight, maybe.

I'll save you a seat Pk, though I may not be there for long! I should blow into that 30K stretch tomorrow and 40K sometime Monday if I keep the pace I'm at - 5K Thursday and 6500 Friday.

30k by Monday would be pretty awesome, although I don't know if I'll be there then or not. Maybe Tuesday?

Regardless, I am pretty proud of myself for being past 20k already, when the other years I'd tried for Nano I never made it past Ik. Feels nice.

And now I'm in the 20K club twice for this year - AKA I just hit 40K! Now it's that down hill stretch to 50 and beyond. Last year I hit 40K on the 14th at the NOWD, so I'm 3 days ahead of that. I could be writing my bonus words (over 50K) for NOWD this year.

OMG Cid! 60K?!

And grats to ALL of you who have already hit and exceeded 20K so far! I'm nearly there and will be joining the club probably during lunchtime today. :)

I've managed to steadily stay either ahead or just at the word count I needed to be this year. Doing much better than last year.
