So years ago I wrote this story where one of the main characters was called Salazar, like in the Harry Potter books.
This character is going to be part of my current novel, but clearly Salazar is an unsuitable name, for obvious copyright reasons. I considered changing it to Balthazar, coz that's halfway similar; but honestly? Balthazar? Just no. It'll change his character completely.
He's snarky, always impeccably dressed, has black hair and eyes, kind of a cold expression. He bickers unendingly with his wife, who is cheerfully immune to his snark, yet underneath he's utterly devoted to her and will follow her lead. He's intelligent, sneaky, a bit bad-tempered, and shrewd, as well as slightly vain. His manner suggests he's completely sure of his own superiority, and he irritates most people to near-insanity. Also, in my head his wife calls him 'Sal' most of the time.
So what on earth can I call him?
Please help!

Salimar -- similar-sounding name, and incorporates a tiny bit of a friend's name (to whom this character sounds uncannily similar).

Salith? Salhem? Salrim? Salcer?
Seeming that you want to keep the Sal part in there.

Saladin? :D Reminds me a bit of the real fellow - during the 3rd crusade, it was pretty much just him and Richard the Lionheart fighting the days away. One day, Richard was a bit too ill to go meet him on the field, so Salidan sent his personal physician to help him out. (Probably apocryphal, but still.) And, you know, he defended Jerusalem impeccably.

Why can't the character be Salizar? Rowling didn't invent the name; it's actually a real name.
