With all the "What's that word?" and "Where do you live again?" posts, I haven't noticed many that celebrate the little/big steps in getting a novel done. So - here we go.

Post your daily/weekly successes here.
All Positive (whine at the end if you must - if something horrible happens do let us know!)
All Positive with a caveat of the line "and in despite all that I was able to still ______________"
How are you rewarding yourself.

I am sure this list will grow as we grow. But it comes from my reaching a goal and not having anyone to dance around a table with - so this will have to do. :-) Mine is next post.

Yay! I got to 10245 words today! I know its not the really high numbers some of you already have, and I was hoping to be at 15K by the end of the weekend (which is still feasible) but I have reached that all important first BIG milestone once you start writing.

YAYAYAYA! 10 words.

Its kind of heady!

Hope you are doing well in NaNo Land!

I just wrote my first big fight scene, and it doesn't suck!

Clearly there's more I can do to improve it (December, anyone?), but it's got the very solid framework of excitement going on. Yes!

Made 10866 today:) Not the greatest for me, but I haven't really been fealing the story yet, so I think that's quite good.

Note to all who stopped by last week for the NaNo Kick Off; I cannot host the write up at Panera at 1000...or anytime on Saturday...or Sunday. Can someone else lead or just put up a NaNo sign and sort of host?

Sorry guys....Daddy duty calls!

I hadn't planned to, but I was writing after I had looked over the NaNo home page and realized that my next line was the perfect place to throw in Mr. Ian Woon. Now he is mentioned as a troublemaking, gossiping old man. If I make him say 75 more words, I hit 12k!

Dancing AROUND a table can be as fun as dancing ON a table -- so you go, Girl!

It's definitely a good thing to remind us to be grateful (thankful, appreciative, much-enamored-of, blessed, etc.) of our milestones reached. (And I've wondered if we can create a similar thing called "pagestones" or "chap-stones" to mark our NaNoWriMo-related achievements.)

Has anyone considered finding a way to mark tiny little notches in the top of their laptop? Or lined up a series of six little items (runes, dolls, coffee beans, whatever) to mark the beginning at zero words, then a celebratory 'reblessing' of the item next in line when the 10,000-word line is reached?'

Maybe next year NaNoWriMo can sell a series of jewelry (like charm bracelets with attachable icons for each 5K of words, in 925 silver or 24K gold)...?

Enjoy the celebration, and know that we're all dancing along with you. Sort of a conga line of conjugated... er, conjoined.... er... well, you get the picture!

I hit 13,000 words tonite and am plowing through Chapter 6. My trick is to outline the novel using sticky notes . They anre arranged on a poster--the so-called murder board --next to my computer. As I finish a chapter i throw away the sticky note. I can also rearrange them if certain action/discover/events needs to hapen before or after I originally planned them. I have a second board with charcter names and a brief bio note for some of them. Keeps me focused and helps challenge me to get rid of stickies and maintain character consistency. So tonite only 22 stickies to go!

Oh my goodness - Bethany - that is brilliant! I have been trying to figure out how to organize my book, and I love the post-it idea.

I FINALLY got to 10,000 words tonight! I can't believe it. I haven't written this much in years, and while I'm certainly not writing my best work ever (it's taking a lot of concentration to not go back and edit!), I'm really proud of myself so far. Hooray! :)

I just hit 11064 and am ALMOST at the point where the world walking begins. Let Joy Ensue!

Congratulations to everyone on hitting their milestones so far!

Milestones that count (besides all of them)

* Hitting a word count
* Sitting at your writing mode for more than 5 minutes without getting distracted and walking away
* Realizing you like your character
* Realizing you hate your character and it doesn't matter
* Finishing (if I see one of those before the middle of the month, however, I am going to come ask what you are taking and if I can have some.)

You get the idea.

So - let's hear it! More milestones!

I'm so excited! I got to 10K words! I know I'm a little behind where I need to be, but I NEVER thought I could do something like this. This is so fantastic! Yay, Nano!

My 10,000th word, by the way, was Jose. Now, I didn't see that coming!

I'm only 13, and I didn't think I'd make it past 5,000, honestly, much less on the deadline!

I finished the first act of my book this morning! I rolled out of bed and put my fingers on the keyboard and everything started coming out so perfectly. I'm at about 40 pages now, at 18,000 words, and now I have to stop dwelling on the fluffy romance and start getting darker.

I'm so excited!!!

I kid not, I am at 16,666 words. This feels like an evil place - mostly because I'm not sure what to do next! For 16,000 words the story has been trucking along in my head, and now I realize that my characters are essentially lost in the woods without a clue what to do next, other than blindly search waterfalls at random and hope that they stumble across who they are looking for. Considering they live in the mountains, this could take YEARS!

16,666 words is evil.

On the plus side, I'm ahead of schedule for my word count (and mostly I posted this because I think that anything with 666 in it should be recognized as an odd place to stop and get your word count without fudging.) :)

Cracked 15k :) yippie yippe yippe:)

you're right, btw. 16666 is a really odd place to just stop at. You should write 'the' or something, or stick a discriptor in your last sentance so you don't live there until you figure out what to do next. I think they need to meet a helpful mountain goat.

OK - I have made it to 15075 per the NaNoWriMo site. I have just told my main character that the woman she thought was her mother isn't. That her governess is. That she has an older sister - also something she didn't know at all or she would NEVER have gone through the nightmare events and parties of the Age of Decision - something First Children must do but seconds and so on don't have to.

World walking in about 2 chapters I think. First she has to go ask her father what the (&*^&* is going on.

Fun! Can't wait to see him worm his way out of this one!

I made it to ten thousand words!
Somehow im also managing to keep up even though theres several days of week i cant write or(as last night) couldnt concentrate at.all. A true miracle!
Granted, i also need to write 4,000 words today, but lets not concentrate on that-- the good thing is im not falling behind too badly. This is something to celebrate with me. xD

I got caught up on my word count last night, and surpassed it by hitting 15,962 words. I ended up writing over 4900 words yesterday to make up for my deficit last week. More importantly, I'm liking where my story is headed, and I'm eager to get started on today's words - as soon as I fix this little problem at work ;)

I haven't posted under this thread because I'm so far behind, compared to where most of you seem to be. But I'm sitting here at my Alexandria write-in (OK, it's not much of a write-in since nobody else came, but I did announce it at the last minute) and I just realized that I've passed the 1,667-word daily goal for today!

That may not seem like much, but it's only the second time since we started that I've actually reached the daily goal. I just checked my total word count, and I'm at 1,918 words for the day, and 8,380 words overall.

I still have nearly an hour left here and I hope to keep going, though my eyes and fingers could use a rest.

(Also, I have no idea what my next scene is, but I'll figure out something.)
