I was just having a break (read: procrastinating) and having a look at the Perth :: North forum and I notice that they are having a competition / war with a region in the US. They have some people from there posting on their forums and it sounds like a lot of fun.

Could we consider doing something like this? Maybe for next year or even this year if we can manage something.

I like the idea of finding another Elsewhere in XX region, another group of "Elsewhere Wrimos" and dealing with them. I notice there is an Elsewhere in England and an Elsewhere in Canada. Probably more but I didn't look past the first page.

Anyone else like this idea or is it just me? Perhaps look to our MLs for doing the diplomacy on this?

I tried to organise one with Adelaide, but they wussed out.

We're currently 38th on the leader board, the closest other elsewhere is:

36. United States :: Pennsylvania :: Elsewhere
42. United States :: Michigan :: Elsewhere

At this stage, both of them have a lower average count (about 1000 words) which means there must be a few more of them than us (of course, it's quality not quantity that counts... hold on, that doesn't sound right in the context of NaNo!)

I reckon it would be good. Maybe even a three-way.

Alternatively, England :: Elsewhere has a similar average to us but about double the total words. Could be a good David and Goliath struggle. And who doesn't like the idea of having crack at the Poms?

Actually, I do remember that on the old boards now that you mention it. I'd make a disparaging remark about croweaters but there might be a few of them around... :-)

I think this is a good idea and competing against the poms sounds like a lot of fun...... Although I probably shouldn't give them a hard time being part pom myself lol

Most of us are part pom, if you count all those caucasian immigrants. And if you count the Scottish and Irish ones as poms. But if you do my family with murder you, so it's entirely up to you if you count the Scotts and the Irish.

lol I've got both Scots and Irish in me. If I have English in my it's probably from the Northwest, and they like the Irish anyway so it's all good.

I'm liking this idea and liking Michigan for the contender for no other reason than a lot of tough-as-nails creative types have come out of that state in the past (MC5, Stooges, Madonna, Rolling Stone Magazine, Alice Cooper, and on and on - so they were from Detroit, which has its own region, but hey it's still Michigan).

Annnnd, the challenge has been accepted! We're working on getting each other added to the Regional Info Page, but until then I think we'll just have to keep checking the 'Word Count Scoreboard' found under the 'Fun Stuff' tag :)

Enjoy!

I've just given myself another reason to get no sleep tonight.

We are down about 200K words from these guys. Our average is heaps better but there are fewer of us. We've got catching up to do and I for one am going to do my share.

Probably not the whole 200k though. Jaye can do that.

PS The other reason is you Natnie. Why did I decide to race you to the end just as you hit your stride?

Hello, nice to meet you all! I am from Michigan Elsewhere. I figured I'd stop by and start the trash-talking. Since I've recently become addicted to these adorable cartoons, I figured I'd sabotage you by placing a relevant link here. Goodness knows I've already sabotaged myself enough with it:

Anyway, on to the trash talking...

You and your interesting animals...

Uh, I mean freakish animals.

With stinky pouches.

Hm, I guess I am not very good at trash talking then? I think I like Australia too much. I've always wanted to visit. I guess I'll just go the cheap route and link an article with some good quotes by Bill Bryson:

Say, do you folks often show up in your IRC Channel? Or do you only make an appearance during the scheduled write-ins? I know in our region there are usually people around at 7 or 8 EST most days, but I don't know what times you may be in your chat.

I'm mainly saying this because it's very late at night here (3 AM) and I am writing a very spooky scene in my book. I'm scared to be alone, so I popped into your chat as it seems to be a more decent time in your part of the world. I could use the company.

Generally they only turn up when someone posts in the forum saying they're on the chat :) Kami, DE & me are usually there. Actually I'm always there, because I live on that server so it's easy enough to be in that room as well.

Hey, they got 1,254 people to our 860 people, we out donate them by US$310 at the moment, and our writer average is 4,600 words more - our people are just more dedicated or interested.

Now, let's go for a record and everyone get across that winner line, please.
