I have one from 2008 and I think it helps a lot, just a simple Excel kinda deal that lets you map where you are in relation to where you could be and keeps your scores easier to monito but you have to enter the scores and hours manually.
Just wondering if others feel such a thing is helpful or distracting or if you have used it before at all.

I used it for my first 3 NaNo novels, and loved it. I tweaked it each time, to make it better suit my needs (and learned a lot about Excel in the process). By keeping track of my progress I learned how fast I can comfortably write and how I need to pace myself (e.g., 2000 words for 25 days works for me; writing 30 days straight does not). It was inspiring to see visual confirmation of my progress. It's a great tool and I really appreciate the guy who makes it available each year.
I'm not using it this year, because I finally feel comfortable about my ability to reach 50K without having to monitor myself so closely.
