Hello I wanted to say hi as I'm new to NanoWriMo. I've been around since Day 1, I just hadn't set up profile completely. It's a work in progress and so is my novel which is romantic humor. I decided to start with something light.
I've been successful most days but NOT all days. I've decided to blog about it as well.
I welcome any suggestions for success or anything of importance you have to offer.
I'm located in Vienna, VA anyone else near here?
Happy NanoWriMO everyone! I hope to see everyone at the finish line.

Welcome! It looks like you're doing well.
I live in Rosslyn but call DC my home region. They have it more together here than the Northern VA region. :P
For suggestions, I say that if you have your daily word goal, that's the most important. Always have a small reward for yourself when you reach that goal. Have a party when you reach 25k. Write nonstop when you pass 40k, as you'll feel a downhill rush and should hopefully be hitting the climax.
And one more thing, if you tend to drink/eat/smell/wear/do anything physically the same when you write, it'll begin to be habit forming. I always drink chai when I write, and now, five years later, any time I drink chai it immediately gets me in the writing mood. It's an incredible placebo.

Thanks for the warm welcome Saunter. Not only was it chilly in here...there were crickets...and somehow those two just don't go together unless you're writing fiction :). I'm new to the whole DC area by way of IL...but I KNOW where Rosslyn is..a few stops down from where I catch the Metro. Thanks for the suggestions...and my brother just bought some Chai tea. Now I know when to drink it. Party...hmmm. I think I can swing that.
I am worried about the quality of my content. I'm just writing feverishly. I have NO idea if the story actually fits together. My first draft may look like a 5th grader wrote it. But I guess I'll still be proud of my accomplishment! ;)
Here's to writing well!! and the 50K marathon!

Don't worry if it doesn't fit together. It won't completely, so don't stress. Heck, I only taught myself to type a couple years ago, so when I type really fast there are still TONS of typos, which I leave alone and just keep writing. Of course, at the end, my spell check session is EPIC, but I don't worry myself about that until I hit 50k.
Keep it up, and glad I could add to the cricket chorus.

Hi NewB,
Welcome on board.
Don't go worrying yourself about content. Content can be edited into shape AFTER 30 November. Write now ( oops, ... I can't resist using the wrong word like that sometimes. I have the misunderstanding that it is humourous) you're doing the very first, extremely rough, proof of concept only, initial draft. If you are at least as good a writer as the rest of us, it will be blecherous. If not, it will be even worse. THAT DOESN'T MATTER! ! !
The important thing is that you get the story done by 30 November. You have the rest of your life to clean it up and make it presentable. At least you will have something to work with. Even GOD, when HE made HIS crowning achievement at the end of the sixth day started with nothing but dirt, and to HIS credit, HE edited man into something that I think is well done. What you are writing is certainly better than just dirt. So it ain't perfect. That's fine. It is certainly much MUCH better than what is in second place.

If you would like company on Saturdays as you strive to reach that final 50,000 word or more goal, there is always the Saturday write-in at Ballston Common Mall in the Food Court. It starts at 8:00 AM, runs until 3:00 PM, and is frequented by lots of nice people. Last Saturday we had a maximum of 4. One left early, but was replaced by another who stayed to the end. It is very informal. The only requirement is that you show up, and that is optional based on personal preference.
It is held between the side of the Down Escalator and Bloom's Grill on the Mickey Dee's side of the court. I bring a six plug power strip with me, but if more than six people require plug in power that might become an issue. In three years of doing this it never has, but the possibility do exist.
To get there, go to the Ballston/MU metro stop on the Orange Line. When you get above ground go to the Stuart Street side of the stop, turn south, go two blocks, and the Mall is right there. The Food Court is the lowest possible level. The Down Escalator is along the east side of Panera Bread on the street level.
